If you’re going to try to stuff your hand up my ass and pretend to speak for me, you might want to buy me dinner first.
I don’t ever compare Justin playing a team with anybody else playing the team. I’ve lost heartily to all sorts of Justin’s random teams. I think everybody has. He told me that he won a tournament with Roll: I believe him. See also 6:30 in this video:

This doesn’t change the fact that people tried Venom/Storm/Sent years ago and realized it was pretty ass.
Your argument seem centered around I AM RIGHT. No videos or tourney or money match evidence seems to be provided, which seemingly puts you at troll tier. That seems like a bad plan.
Ha, calling me a SF4 scrub when I don’t even play that game.
Listen friend, just know that you are the odd man out here. People have posted various comments on how Venom isn’t “good”. Only those who have trouble against Venom are players who don’t know how to deal with Venom fang. (which are probably people who suck at the game)
Okay now im going to get my head out of my ass and talk to you civilized. What makes Venom such an ass Character? and do you think Justin Wong would be able to win evo with Venom/Storm/Sentinel?. By the way I started this thread not to troll but to simply get a conversation started on why Venom is considered bad. I really like to use him and was wondering on your guys’ opinions. Sorry if I came off as a flamer.
What are we talking about here? About Venom/Sentinel/Storm being a bomb team, or Venom not being the low tier trash he is? Don’t get me wrong: I love low tier and primarily play bottom/trash tier characters myself, but after ten plus years of opportunity for VenomMaster01 to show the world what’s up… that hasn’t happened and it’s not going to happen.
Sent-Y and Doom-B and Tron-Y are the assists everybody picks when they’re trying to figure out a low tier character. There’s fuck-all originality in that, which isn’t a problem, but everybody knows how to play against that, which is a problem. Jump back, call an assist to either hit Venom or take the hit, punish. Repeat. The Thanos-A approach is smarter because that way you can extend his combos and make them hurt. Sabretooth-B is a liiiiittle smarter than Sent in terms of assist, but you only get a little more block-stun/window for cross-ups, and he’s 100000 times worse than Sentinel on his best day. [ProTip: hold up back with Sentinel. Sabretooth dies, as does most of the low tier.]
I suspect everybody who has played Marvel has sincerely believed that XXX random character is super-awesome and a surprise… and then they run into the tournament buzz-saw where people just do Cable jump back guns + Doom-B (or Storm-Y or …) and watch Venom bleed to death. Fly-back + anti-air Sent might be boring and not something you would do in a friendly match, but it sure as fuck is going to happen all day long in a tournament match. Or Storm runaway for 93 seconds after she does a little chip damage. Venom is fucked there: you have to switch in Sent or Storm, by which point the other guy should have two levels which means he can DHC Of Death your tag and then you’re even more fucked than you were to start with.
If you want to have a conversation of any depth, show us what you’re talking about. You started the conversation and are kind of the guy who may or may not have something to say. Do you? If not, then I think we can all happily move on.
I and many others are happy to play your low tier, but … they’re called “low tier” for a reason. :\
You made really good points, I’m saying that Venom although a Shit tier character can hold his own against a Sentinel, I don’t think it was right for me to have him starting though. It all depends on the player, to an extent, Justin wong has even stated that there are probably 20 more top tier teams than we haven’t discovered yet. Also you seem sort of depressed lol don’t worry its just a game that we all like to have fun with.
The gap between characters in tiers is something that is very real and very present. Venom can get a lot of stuff done if a person sits there and takes the pressure, but problems start happening when runaway teams start showing their heads. A lot of low-tier characters perform decently against other low tier characters. There’s just this gigantic chasm when you start running into the godlike zoning of Cable and Sentinel, not to mention Blackheart or Spiral. Without a good air-dash or flight, you’re going up a wall of projectiles that you’re going to have a very very tough time getting past.
The character most relevant to Justin Wong’s statement about how there’s a bunch of top tier teams that haven’t been discovered is most likely Dhalsim. Dhalsim has the mobility necessary to compete with the top tier cast, but it wasn’t until really late in the game’s life that a bunch of new stuff was discovered with Dhalsim that really made him quite good.
So What you are saying is no matter how deep you try to get into it, Venom will always be an ass character no matter what? There is no possible way venom can ever stand a chance against a runaway storm and Sentinel?
I’m never depressed for longer than five minutes. I’m glad as fuck to be alive. I’m just realistic here.
Possible way, sure. But in terms of “This person has Venom and I will bet on him in this money match”, no. You can win some of those matches against a skilled player, but you’ll lose most of them. If you’re winning “most” of them, the other person isn’t as skilled as you think.
I can run town on people of close skill level playing their god tiers with my low tiers because I have better fundamentals than they do. When I start playing people of equivalent fundamentals, those low tier teams get exposed as having the horrible 8-2 or 7-3 matchups that they actually have. And I’m not good: others have done way more, but they’ve also hit the same walls.
For example, Megaman. One year I stunned a great player in Ohio because he thought he could force Magneto down my throat in the tournament: that doesn’t work. That same year I got absolutely destroyed by Taiji (a fantastic Magneto player) who just said “Fuck that” and picked Sentinel instead of Magneto. Low tier have huge holes in their game that they can’t really overcome indefinitely.
And the thing that sucks about playing low tiers in MVC is that there isn’t a damn thing you can do about it. See and this is why I think 3rd Strike is a superior game, if you play a supposive ass character in 3rd Strike you can overcome that with the parry. In Marvel your pretty much fucked.
@Wyoat do you know how you are talking to ??? do you ?? i ; m playing marvel in europ and here are nearly no marvel players at all …and i ve learned some combos or lets say i played high and low tier … just go for movement ,…if you have no movement you can’t fight chars that have movement … Dhalsim could be top if played right but thats really hard …
The top 4 are stronger quicker and more versatile then the rest … ok Cable is very linear …but he is more like a top then a god tier in mvc2 …
VDO plays mid tier chars on a very high lelvel Beast of Devil has made 2 new tron infinits by hand that were only known in japanes combo vids made using programmable controllers …i play Ken …Chung … Dhalsim …Charlie … Omega Red and many more and you know why they are bottom if you play the top tiers yourself … there is always something missing …
I am sure if people kept playing this game there’d be at least ONE other character that would be top 10, the games been out for 10+ years yes but theres just such a massive broken toolbox of goodies in this game that people still discover stuff to this day.
^-- Tron’s pretty weak outside of her corner/throw awesomeness (just realized she kind of has a MvC3 “half life off any throw” game): she has the same general “can’t beat Sentinel fly back+up problem” combined with the suicidal s.FP. Rogue >>>> Tron in my book. (And I’ll play Tron to death because she’s way more fun than anybody else in her game, but she’s really flawed and limited, despite having a beautifully unscaled super.)
