altho i would like to consider myself a good player i still manage to lose to even better players.
this usually makes me a lil bit disappointed at myself but its all a good lesson to learn why you lost.
usually i take beatdowns fairly easy but if they start talking shit i take it personally and thats when i lose ( a lot) and its not by some scrubby or shitty tactic too its just the fact i couldn’t focus.
I always thought there was a difference between the words “n00b” and “newb.” A n00b would be the guy who swears he can kick ass and ends up losing anyway, but is too stubborn to take advice. A newb would be kind about it and actually ask for tips to improve their game.
so the official definition of a scrub is someone who whines when they lose, instead of someone who gets better and try to find a counter behind tactics they lost to? right?

A noob is somebody who sucks due to lack of experience, or just lack of skills.
A scrub is a mentality, and has nothing to do with playing skills. There are plenty of good players who are scrubs when you look at the big picture.
“Noob”, and “Newb” have totally different meanings. “Newb” means new to the game, while “noob” means that you’re bad. :wgrin:
Newb means a newbie.
Noob means a newbie that behaves in a way he doesnt deserves respect. If thats not the case, then user of term just is disrespectful without reason
Scrub means player who doesnt want to evolve own gameplay, instead choosing to devolve gameplay of his opponents (like prohibiting certain actions by calling them “cheap” and calling opponent an “cheater”), and so from view of pro player, scrub is ridiculous.

personally i think it seems less offending to call someone a “nub” than a more personal insult like “u suck at this game and r worthless”
jus like it may seem less offending to call someone a “blonde” than say shes a “dumb bitch who doesnt have a clue”

Yeah…overall I would say it’s worse to be a scrub than a nub cuz being a scrub means you actually waste valuable time with the game and still aren’t very good at it.
Its worse to be a scrub by far. Noobs at least have something they can work towards. Scrubs are stuck.
You are only partially correct on n00b. Newb is more accurate to a new player, n00b is an asshat who keeps playing like he is new no matter how long he plays. Scrubs bitch and whine and make up their own rules, n00bs are perpetually clueless.

Too frequently? Not frequently enough. People catch feelings and take things too seriously. Scrub is the FG equivalent of n00b, like it or not.

Nub, used to be N00b, which used to be Noob, which used to be Newb, which used to be Newbie, which used to be Newy, which before that was just ‘New’.
It’s been around online since the text MUD/MUSH times where higher level characters would basically abuse lower level characters. Imagine Diablo with just text/trash talking and very little moderation or pvp restrictions.
Scrub is from baseball (ie, scrub baseball) where it’s just a warm up game and you’re messing around. Later it became a way to insult a player.
After that it became popular in High School sports when talking about freshmen (and the freshmen team) especially when they first arrived ie, “They’re all scrubs.”

I play fighting games, and I love them, but I don’t consider myself to be incredibly good at them. I can beat on a lot of players, but am beaten in turn by a lot of really good players as well. I’ve been playing for a couple of years as well.
That said, I wouldn’t consider myself either a scrub. A scrub would imply that I made up excuses constantly as to why I lost, which I don’t. I get mad when I lose constantly, but it’s because I recognize my limitations as a player, and hope to improve. That to me is the difference between a newb and a scrub. Some people such as myself stay in the newb stage for a while though, since people adapt at different rates.

Scrub also depends on what part of the world you are in and its relative to the level of play.
Take for example King of Fighters…If you are playing 98 at the highest level in China or somewhere…you might consider anyone that is below that level as “sorry” or sucks…or a scrub…
So it’s all relative to what someone’s definition of good is…
Scrub to me might be anyone that isnt at least at Mexico’s level in KOF…
Scrub to the next guy would be someone who just complains all the time…
I prefer n00b’s. My games last much longer with them in line
