I was wondering, I was going to get 12 of your arceye 2 led’s 6 for buttons and 6 for the side of the case. They don’t have to light up on activation just light when I plug it in. Do I still need a sparky or is there something else I do this with?
you can power it directly with 5v from USB power, then connect ground to the color you want… thats all…
but beware there is a power draw limit for USB… there is a limit of 500ma of current available…
so assume your controller itself takes about 100ma… that leaves you wtih 400ma left for LEDs…
each color for each PCB draws 40ma (unless you add more resistors in-line). which means without a sparky, you can light up about 10 buttons with a single color (red, or blue, or green)… this is why intelligent controllers such as sparky are important… they turn leds on and off like old school brodway lights (just at a speed so fast that to the naked eye, all LEDs have the illusion of being on at the same time)…
Oh wow that’s amazing. So If I use sparky I could have all the colors I want on individual LED’s, yellow, blue, purple, whitex2, green, and red? It would be a total of 13 led’s.
Technically you’d need 2… because sparky can only control 8 arc eyes… but you might be able to power 8 via sparky, then hard wire the last 5
Alright then, any idea where I can get the information to wire all of this up. This is my first mod job and sadly i’m starting from scratch. I’m going to use the multi-console cthulhu pcb a seimitsu led joystick, screwin seimitsu buttons plus 12 of your arceye 2 leds. I’ve been scouring the forums for a week but still lack a lot of information on the wiring parts of the stick. Thanks for all of your help by the way, thought i was gonna have to give up on my dream stick. The only modder I know is injured and backed up.
Well, setup your cthulhu as you would do normally… then sparky requires a power and ground… it has screw terminals for connection to cthulu screw terminals for button signals (you can also connect ground and power from cthulu this way i think)… then just plug in arceye2 to the pin headers on sparky… have you read through the sparky thread?
as for the remaining arceye2, just plug power into the common offset pin (i point to it in my install videos at the beginning of this thread), and connect ground of the color you want (red green or blue) to ground…
feel free to ask if you have specific questions… it might help make things clear if you draw a wiring diagram
Alright that helps a lot. I’ve read through it and i’ve got a general idea of how everything works, but since it’s my first time, knowing what all I will need before I actually get into the nasty situations of not having something or troubleshooting is kind of difficult. I’ll just order what i think I’ll need and dive in, lol. I’m probably going to order those Leds from you within a week.
sure… I can give you some extra 1 pin jumper cables to help connect the arc eyes you’re driving directly from usb power, whenever you’re ready…
I suggest hooking it up in phases… first make sure cthulu works on its own…then add sparky and LEDs for the 8 face buttons… make sure that works, and then wire up the extra LEDs to the remaining buttons…
Gah, I just priced this whole mod job, I though around 150 for sure. I’m at like 250 right now. buttons, stick, light, cthulhu, 2 x sparky, fydi cable, usb jumper, 17" cable, and bigger cable, marbles.
Yes i know the feeling… i chased the rabbit down the hole starting with my arcade table and project gouken stick lol
Lol, sounds intense. I might have to get it functioning and then get the lights I think lighting it is about half the cost.
Yeah get comfortable first. You could also just keep it simple by lighitng up 8 face buttons only (with one sparky). I have about 150 AE2 left in stock.
Are you going to make anymore once your stock is out?
Phreakazoid has some stock, as does Bencao74 (in Germany). They will probably have some left if I run out…
After AE2 is done, i wont make any more. I barely made anything with AE1 and AE2 with all the time and effort i put into it, plus my designs got ripped off / copied. So the incentive really is not there to continue. I am just a hobbyist (like everyone else here) who went out on a limb with an idea, and not an engineer or businessman.
However, even after all ArcEye2 is sold out, there is something in the works to ensure ArcEye will live on
I’m sorry to hear that You did a really great job on the design and everything, Hopefully your future projects do better for you.
Hey Purp! Just got my AE2s! Now if Gremlin solutions would hurry the F up with my buttons and I can get started! lol I might order another 8 just so that way I have extra because you arent making anymore.
Let me know!
Glad you got them quickly! I’ve got 150ish left. So anytime you’re ready, you know the procedure
Hey p.arms,
Not sure if this has been asked before so forgive me if it has but would these be able to fit in 24mm buttons? I have 2 30mm on my box but the rest of my buttons are 24mm so not sure if this would fit in them/ if you have sets that do or if I’m pretty much SOL. I read through some of the posts and saw that this is your last run so not sure if you have any left for 24mm if any at all. Figured I’d ask though since I’ve always been interested in the arceye’s but just haven’t had the time to really mod my stuff until recently.
Sorry dude… ae2s are only for 30mm…
Hey Purp
Did you send me the sparky harness for the AE2s? Not sure if I got it or not. I only have cables that will fit 3 pins and not the 8 that the sparky uses.
Thanks!
EDIT! Im an idiot. I have to still plug the harness to the buttons to make them activate. Im retarded lol
