Arcades in Tokyo

Hello,

I’ll be travelling to and through Tokyo for a week, somewhere in february. I’ll be spending most of the day travelling the city and doing the tourist thingy, but naturally I want to spend a few nights in the arcades playing some Street Fighter IV (I play UMVC3 too, but I suck so much at that I I’d rather not be publicly exposed ;-)).

Is there anybody who knows which arcade I should visit to get some good and most importantly, FUN matches in against the Japanese?

Also, I heard they use ID cards in the machines to keep track of their progress. Does anybody know if that’s mandatory?

Thanks for the help!

Here is a listof many of the arcades in Tokyo and where to go for a particular game.
As for Id cards, I’m pretty sure you only need one if you want to keep track of your rank, just playing for fun shouldn’t require one.

Might want to try the Japan thread in regional matchmaking.

Akihabara is more of a tourist haunt and every time ive been there the players weren’t that good.

Id recommend Taito Station South Shinjuku and Shinjuku Club Sega.

That mademan cafe link has good advice.

I’d recommend sega GIGO in ikebukuro, Sports land taito station in east shinjuku or battle area a in west shinjuku. You’ll get plenty of fights there with quality.
There’s a few other ace arcades like big box in takadanobaba but they’re not as frequented as the ones mentioned above.

I have been to Club Sega and Taito Station in Shinjuku, both of them were good.
It´s 100 Y for 2 credits.

Taito Station in Shinjuku is where Daigo plays everyday, so the competition there has got to be top notch.
