Arcades in Saipan/Palau?

I might be heading there for Peace Corps to help children and stuff. Is there any place to play over there?

My cousin was in Saipan for several months for his work. From what he’s told me, there used to be some arcade cabinets operating behind the back of some liquor store. Apparently it’s now been demolished and being made into a small parking lot for Starbucks.

But supposedly bars and gaming go together there or something because he tells me he got his gaming fix by hanging out at this one bar which also doubled as an “arcade” of sort with some old cabinets and console setups.

As for the gaming scene there, I think he mentioned “PopotonIIDX” and another dude “Mugger-G”, along with some other dudes. Supposedly a small knit community so they don’t bother communicating through SRK – I guess you gotta text/call them.

Mugger-G (Clyde) is one of the people that came back from the first wave of Peace Corps aides, helping young children out.

I didn’t know he was Mugger-G til I put the guy in the brochure with the guy that I was playing games against.

I’m assuming you at least know of Mugger (Clyde Okamando) since you mentioned him. Are you from Saipan, Guam, Hawaii, Phillipines, Vietnam or California?

Well I only know of Mugger-G from the photos and a cellphone footage of a tournament they had at the back of the bar that my cousin shared with me. He’s also told me some stories about Clyde that are just crazy; going by the tales, the man has a big appetite for women, drinking, let alone winning gaming tournaments. Just a hungry guy I guess. I had no idea he was also into helping children and the needy (crazy!). LOL

Anyway, I live on Kauai but since I started college I’ve been living on Oahu so I can attend UH Manoa. The scene here is leagues better than the one on Kauai – all we had on Kauai was one shitty Fun Factory.

The funny thing is, over here there are some players who go by names that are VERY similar to Mugger-G and PopotonIIDX. I think those dudes in Saipan are doing a parody with the names or have some ties to Hawaii or something. (And I wouldn’t worry too much about PopotonIIDX … I haven’t heard much about him from my cousin, it’s just the name stuck with me for some reason.)

I can see why the name PopotonIIDX would stick. How exactly would you pronounce that, like POP-OH-TUN or POE-POE-TUN or POPPO-TUN.

When you mention that players where you are have names that are similar to Mugger-G and this PopotonIIDX player, what do you mean?

Why would Mugger parody anybody,he helps Feed the Children, he’s probably called Mugger cause he likes American Mug Root Beer, I seriously doubt he would doing any kind of mugging.

Do you know if Mugger-G or PopotonIIDX post here? Maybe your cousin can help, who knows maybe even the real Mugger-G the guy the Mugger-GI know is parodying will post here.

Saipan must have a pretty strong scene, if people fom Honolulu, Hawaii know the players from Saipan. Are you sure about these guys? You do realize that I said Saipan, and not Japan now right. 

 A quick question, Do all these guys play at EAA's? 

 Have you ever heard of Mata Usi Shin? He's my cousin he plays over on Oahu county someplace.  

The scene is dead over here on Lanai county.

I look forward to going to Saipan and Palau to play some games. Damn, I was so ignorant that I thought I would have a chance at being one of the good players there.
