Is next week going to be on saturday or sunday? And did os already say hes coming?
TEs are easy to mod. And you can fit a mccthulhu in easily too but you certainly dont need it if you just want a db-15 port

Thing is, I don’t feel like spending $150 on a stick right now.
But I’m willing to chip in a smaller amount towards Kevin’s or somebody elses stick.

So I’ve noticed a player called corryzink appearing on ggpo the past month, and I realized it was THE London Corry.
Finally managed to catch him at his keyboard today and played a few matches with him.
Just out of curiosity, how many of you besides Corry are willing to play ST on ggpo regularly?
As a rule online is ass and is no substitute for offline. However London is far and we lack an Arcade board, making ggpo far more practical in the long term.
I’m usually on skype, my account should be tied to my e-mail which is jed707@hotmail.com if your down.
I know that Chris and Mihai are gonna be the most likely participants, however if your on the fence thinking your gonna get stomped don’t be shy.
Fucking France has had a billion people on ggpo playing ST over the past few months. Most of them are shitty. Point is, they are stepping up their game. I would love to see like 6 Canadian flags in the ggpo lobby at the same time. If I could get the rest of the GTA guys on board, we could make that happen.

So yeah ST on ggpo let’s do it up guys.
I wanna start a database that contains a list of peeps who play GGPO ST on the East Coast. Preferably below 50 ping. Not limited to Canada mind you.
If your on the fence because you can’t get ggpo to run, hit me up on skype and I’ll walk you through the port forwarding nonsense.
If you don’t have a stick ffs get one cuz if one of my dota buddies can get a stick in like 6 hours on craigslist to play cvs2 and 3s for a few days on the cheap than open up your wallet.
Hopefully we can start running a few random tourneys. Online is our best option. Bleak I know, but it’s a sign of the times.
I can certainly stream tournys. As for a database of players… I usually keep a keen eye out for canadian and low ping players we could probably build one pretty quick. Maybe stick it in a spreadsheet on google docs or something.
On that note i played corry earlier today too. He asked if inknew you and brett…
Also, have some fucking optimism. Dont ditch events and planned stuff because they are “likely to fail”. Have them actually fail (maybe they wont) and keep trying. Rome wasnt fucking built in a day.
Edit: london still doesnt have an arcade board? I swear turbo2tone msged me a few times about gerting a board. And when I got my second board i forwarded the auction to him…
What?
If your referring to me not traveling up to the GTA lately, well I work a rotating shift and frankly I’m finding it too hard to justify driving 1+ hours and spending $30+ in gas not including dinner to play a casual.
I’m not being pessimistic, I’m being realistic.
Trust me man, me and especially Brett has tried to get offline ST off the ground in ON before. The response was not encouraging. Maybe if enough east coast players regularly play ggpo people would be willing to travel for offline tourneys and we could use somebodies arcade board. Hell at that point I’d buy a fucking board if I knew people would come down.
Last week and this week i went down to A&C 's new meetup day. Mondays. There is definitely interest in skullgirls darkstalkers and ST. More attention than wednesday as well. I played mostly skullgirls and darkstalkers today, but I loaded up HDR classic at the end of the night and got requests to bring my supergun again.
Im thinking build the community from scratch. Have regular meetups downtown A&C regardless of whether people come down or not. I dont care how many times you guys failed in trying to get offline ST off the ground in the past. I want to give it a try myself and i need all of your support and none of the pessimism to do it. Dont keep telling me the stuff i want wont work because you’ve tried it before unless you got some suggestions fornwjat to do differently.
A lot of less popular games got a lot of attention today. Ok were not even going to get an 8man tourney anytime soon but we can at least get a whole bunch of non-regulars.
I also think we should make due with HDR classic and he dreamcast version. If you’re willing to say online is our best option then you have no excuse for dealing with the dreamcast port and HDR classic offline since it is definitely better than ggpo.
Im fine with the dreamcast version. So is Os. Brett is the only person I heard actually say no to the dreamcast version but I think its comparable to what we were doing with XMAME when my setup was in for repair. If not better.
Edit: my order of preference for offline ST:
Arcade board (obviously)
Dreamcast port (easier and more available than xmame arcade perfect with monitor adjustment and memory card 0-1 frame input delay)
XMAME still very accurate, not as readily available as dreamcast port)
ST: HDR classic mode (slight speed issues, graphical differences more than 1 frame input delay, but definitely better than ggpo)
Street Fighter Anthology port (PSX) least accurate but still reasonable… minor character specific differences. Otherwise an arcade perfect port gameplay wise (speed, input delay, etc) with 2 exceptions: it takes 1 more extra chip to kill a character and there is a slight delay between the announcer yelling “fight” and the fight starts
All other ports I know of are no good even for beginner casuals since they are so inaccurate they will make new players learn use and peactice things that arent part of the original game.
I don’t know about the rest of you but after traveling back and forth between Brantford and the GTA these past few years I’ve honestly had it. If anybody wants to money match me for at least $15+ in ST msg or call me and I’ll travel.
Kenny If you can produce a list of 16 prepaid names for ST I’ll definitely come down.
But no more fucking casuals. We’ve tested the waters, and they are cold.
I’m sorry if I come across as a prima donna but I’m not investing anymore money with zero return. By zero return I don’t mean money, even if I lose said mm or tourney it’s still very very WORTH IT in the long run. I get tourney and mm experience plus I get to play ST seriously. Which is what we haven’t been doing lately.
As for which version, we’re going to have to be practical about it. Come tournament time people are gonna be salty about switching from the version they use to train with at home to w/e we happen to use for the tourney.
Guys I’m gonna say straight up if you want ST to fly your going to have to put up with different versions.
The trick is to find those few versions that are the closest.
Now the only versions I have a problem with are HDR and PSX.
HDR while readily available has that speed difference that pretty much makes it a whole new ball game. Fuck that. Plus it looks like ass. Bottom line the version has to be pretty close to the arcade board for universality purposes. The rest of the freakin world uses the board anyway. HDR falls woefully short, even the 360 version.
PSX has a bunch of game mechanics changes and issues that make it very inferior to every other option.
I’d love to hear your reasons as to why HDR Classic is better than ggpo.
Other than that there are the controller issues, but I’m hoping we can get around that. But yeah I’m down for some DC (with the proper dip switches) or XMame. Fuck I’m down for ggpofba on somebodies (decent) PC tower.
Well, i only put PSX on the list for being ok for low level/casuals if they absolutely cannot find another version. For serious play i would cut the list off at XMAME or HDR.
I say hdr is better than online ggpo because I would much rather deal with the slight speed difference from HDR compared to the random dropped inputs of ggpo. Ggpo is inconsistent too you dont know if you fucked up or the internet screwed you out of something, at least hdr is consistent with its fallbacks. Not to mention that ggpo just sometimes likes to fuck up and not connect.
Do note i was referring to online ggpo. If you’re going to do offline on a PC it might as well be done with mame. And I would put that just above HDR on the list.
Its a shame youre not willing to come down to the GTA on a regular basis anymore. Obviously you’re still always welcome to come. And Let me know if chris ever comes out of his cave in london.
Again, i want to give rebuilding this community a try. You can think whatever you want about whether it is going to work or not. I just need you to humor me and go along whatever activities I want to try even if you think they wont turn out well.
No. I wasnt talking about you not coming down. I was talking about constantly saying people wont care about this game. Im talking about Blowing off an offer fron vince to stream ST. Im upset that we didnt even stream a small casuals/round robin with him. Im talking about not trying and showing me a $100 newbie pot every few months wont draw people in. (many ways to raise the money, id certainly be willing to fund the first one myself)
Im not even trying to get ppl to play consistenly yet. Just getting people to know about the game. You say this scene is too new school and they dont care about the old games. That maybbe true with the cvs2 and the 3s crowd but the post SF4 crowd doesnt have that history, doesnt have that connection with the community, havent even seen the game or tried it once. It seems every time I break out ST at A&C with no tournaments going on (mondays now rather than wednesdays) theres always people saying I want to get in This! Thrack(i forgot his real name) always plays when were at a&c i find that wlyou forget he exists because he floats around the other games too. Mark played ww with a friend on A&Cs cab and asked me to bring my ST board. Even though there was only 15 minutez left in the day i decided to download HDR on a console and after 2 rounds of play a couple of people said “i want to get in this” i was using the EXTREMELY ugly HD background with CLASSIC sprites too… Mondays have a lot of REALLY random games going on getting pular. It can happen with ST too
Play off the “novelty” of ST rather than the nostalgia.
Planning to bring my supergun at least once every month again to A&C starting monday the 29th. Also put a couple more dates following that on the first post as well.
GGPO is still far superior. It has a ton of active players, just not too many on the East coast. I’m pretty sure that online HDR has the same problems that ggpo has. There are also ways around disconnect issues on ggpo especially if you live close to the other player.
That speed difference in HDR could really mess up your timing come tournament day.
Again, ggpo is the best there is online. I was listing the best offline options. And I was saying if youre willing to deal with the problems with online ggpo then you should be willing to play and not complain when playing the better offline versions. Such as dreamcast (which brett complains about). Aim talking purely gameplay here too. Not the amount of players etc…
Sorry, I’m completely unfamiliar with the Supergun setup. I’d imagine a USB stick would be useless. If I wanted to bring and use my own stick for the setup, I’d have to get it modded with a DB-15 connection?
have a psx-DB 15 converter. So if you have a PSX or PS2 stick you should be fine. Also I bring RJ45 cables so if you have that mod you can use my cables. If you’re not too picky aboutnyour stick, i usually bring one or two and A&C games has psx sticks too.
But yeah, because of how different usb/arcade inputs are, its extremely hard to convert one to the other without introducing input lag (I commend undamned for getting a working prototype made. I will definitely buy his a-board when he makes it available)… Old consoles are the middle ground and playstation is the most common.
Whoops. Double post
Ok, thanks. Unfortunately I don’t have a PSX or PS2 stick, so I’ll use whatever’s available until I get mine modded
Hey guys, not sure if this will be important for you, but I just bought a Super SF2 X board from Japan. Gonna either put it in my astro cab or big blue, if anyone is interested in eventually coming by London casuals since we have some ST players still kicking around. Might come in handy if we come by Toronto soon as well. Just thought I would let you guys know.
cool. Too bad I don’t think I’m going to be able to make the trip down to London any time soon.
By the way, if you want to put a female port on your stick, This is the pinout that I use:
It’s almost de-facto standard for supergun builds/inputs.
Cool, thanks. I’ll see if I can get this port set up for my stick(s) so we can have an extra or two. GG’s at A&C today
I’d prob be down for London every once in a while… playing ST on a cab would be really cool!
Ill be putting up a set of dates and locations soon (probably @ A&C or YorkU) keep an eye on this thread.
