Arcade Stick Question/Riding the gate question

Good day everyone just got into arcade sticks.

My stick which is a madcatz te, allows me to perform hadouken by just doing df>fp, but usually it’s d>df>dfp for hadouken.
The thing is, i hit the corners but not so rough when i do the hadouken(df>fp)

now when I do proper hadouken: d>df>dfp, it doesn’t work as much.

idk if it’s a good thing or not. I tried this not riding the gate thing as in hitting the microswitches only and avoiding any contact with gates, but doesn’t really execute any moves.
Is my stick/microswitches not sensitive enough or faulty? I tried pressing on all the microswitches on all directions and they’re all working fine.
Or I’m actually not riding the gate at all without me being aware. (If I think or not riding the gate; i think of only going as far as the microswitches click and not moving the stick pass that clicking point, totally ocd on hitting the gate surfaces.)

Don’t ride the gate.

Practice more.

That is my question, as in explain, “don’t ride the gate.”

This. Is that how you don’t ride the gate?

You can hit the gate if you’re just going in a single direction. “Not riding the gate” means not staying at the maximum engage throughout the entire quarter or half-circle motion.

IT’s really impossible for me man, I try doing hadoukens by just going as far as the switches click
but it only shows in the input as d->f

i tried testing all directions and they’re all fine and clicks fine. Is my microswitches not sensitive or something?
Can you show me a video of you not riding a gate

Hey there! I can understand where you are coming from. If it really helps you out I wouldn’t mind doing like a video chat if you really want to see what it looks like, but honestly might not really be necessary. You shouldn’t have your stick pushed right up to your square gate (i assume it is a square gate since that is the only one i would imagine give you trouble with fireballs.) This is a problem that is solved with practice and messing around, and i can imagine you’ve heard that so many times that it would make you wanna rip your hair out. But again, is it a natural motion that is kind of hard to teach. I like to imagine that you’ve figured it out by now, but if not and you really want to talk about it and try to work through it feel free to add me on steam; my forum name is the same as my steam name. Good luck!

No, no, no!

You don’t have to just “go as far as the switches click”. It’s totally fine to push down all the way to the gate, and then push forward all the way at the end.

What you shouldn’t do, is keep your lever at the gate throughout the whole motion.

To do a quarter circle (fireball) motion then, you move the lever all the way down to the gate, then move it all the way forward to the gate (not down forward, mind you). What you are doing then is a straight diagonal line from down to forward. By doing this, for a short moment, both the down and forward microswitches are pressed, giving you the down+forward input.

Really thanks d3v, now I get it. I’ve been paranoid all day because of this “not riding the gate,” thing.
I thought I have to only move my stick to the point where it only clicks, totally not touching the gates at all. So technically I have not been riding the gate that much, but still, since i’m new, I’m still having troubles executing specials and cancel combos.

At the moment, I’m the worst SF4U player. I get frustrated alot but hey, I know all of you started same as me. Or maybe I just suck at all haha.
Really thanks for the help man. Really Appreciate it all.

Thanks bro, looks like I really don’t need a video at all. I’ll just watch some youtube videos out there. But really, thank you for being willing to help me. Have a nice day!

Ah, one more thing about the hadouken motion.
I noticed it when I do ultra such as Metsu Hadouken. I just go down->forward down->forward, quickly

Is this the same thing you’re talking about?
