Because I’ve been having a lot of trouble with Oni (mainly due to the fact that I never block his cross up slashes), I’ve spent a lot of time in training mode today with this new character. Here are my notes about some of Oni’s special moves, super, and ultras. Unfortunately, at the time of this writing, frame data for Oni is unavailable.
Gohadoken (Fireball): :qcf::p:

[]Oni’s Fireball is at least -5 on block. Tested with a point-blank, true block string (cr.HP xx Fireball) and punished with Guy’s st.MP.
[]Maximum range cr.MP (or cr.MK) xx Fireball is not a true block string. Tested with a point-blank block string: cr.LP x N, cr.MP (or cr.MK) xx Fireball. When N = 2, cr.MP (or cr.MK) xx Fireball is a true block string. When N = 3, cr.MP (or cr.MK) xx Fireball is not a true block string.
[]EX Fireball is much safer on block, but maximum range cr.MP (or cr.MK) xx EX Fireball still isn’t a true block string.

[]3 frame special move. Tested with Guy’s usual safe jump setup after Run > Slide. Cannot be safe jumped without proper spacing (I think I safe jumped Oni once online, but I was unable to replicate the situation in training mode).
[]Oni cannot FADC his uppercut on block. He can FADC his uppercut only on hit and only on the second hit.
[]LP Uppercut is the only uppercut that is not completely invincible before it becomes active.

[]Despite its appearance, only the EX version is an overhead.
[]LK, MK, and EX Chops seem to be at least -3 on block.
[]HK Chop is, at worst, -2 (cr.LK could not punish). U2 cannot punish due to the range.

[]MK Slash is at least -4 on block. Tested with a point-blank block string: cr.LP, cr.LP, cr.MP xx MK Slash. Can be punished by U2. Never a true block string when used. Cannot cross up.
[]HK Slash is at least -7 on block. Tested with a point-blank block string: cr.LP, cr.LP, cr.MP xx HK Slash. Can be punished by U2 if within range. Never a true block string when used. Punish midscreen cross up attempts with combos that start with cr.LK or st.MP. Punish corner cross up attempts with combos that start with cl.HK.
[]EX Slash is at least -9 on block. Tested with a point-blank block string: cr.LP, cr.LP, cr.MP xx EX Slash. Can be punished by U2 if within range. Never a true block string when used. []Projectile that can be shot in three different directions: horizontal from ground, vertical from ground, and diagonal in air.
[]At least -3 on block. Tested with a point-blank U1 on block. If you block it anywhere midscreen, you’ll have a hard time punishing it, or you won’t be able to punish it at all.
[]EX Run > Slide goes through U1, but you need to cancel into Slide before you absorb a hit.

[]Projectile hitbox.
[]At least -8 on block. Tested with a point-blank U2 on block. Because of the push back, punish Oni with a combo that begins with st.MP.
[]MK Bushin Senpukyaku and EX Bushin Flip do not avoid Oni’s U2 completely (you will be hit).

Oni’s Sweep (crHk) is punishable on Block with Guy’s stMp. You can combo into Run Slide or Ex Hozanto. You can also combo into Guy’s Medium Tatsu or punish with Ex Tatsu, just make sure your within range. Or if you want to be ulta safe, you can just use stMp, alone, as a Counter Poke.
Oni’s Air movements are all punishable on landing. His Dash Back Movement can be chased down with Run Slide or Ex Hozanto. Oni’s Medium Version (the down punch) will bounce off your head on hit or block. If it hit you, you are still able to chase it down and land Run Slide or Ex Hozanto. On Block you can just walk or dash up to him and perform a combo of your liking. As a side note the pounce can hit you while your ducking, but it is not an overhead. And Oni’s Forward Air Movement again is punishable on landing, if your close enough to punish it. As a word of caution, Oni can perform his Air Super after his air movement, just in case your thinking about punishing with Guy’s Izuna Drop or any other air move. Probably worth mentioning; stHk into Bushin Chain works apon Oni’s landing if your close to him.
His slashes get beat by EX tatsu clean. Whether cross up or not! If he crosses you up with ex slash it will catch him with at least a knock down! I have trouble remembering when I see him flash yellow to block a cross up! LOL You can also throw him out of the slash at the right time! Oni gives so many Kaiten Izuna Otoshi opportunities!
The ground punch moves are hard to beat from the front because the earthquake makes it two hits and the range is pretty good, but if you walk under (or dash or slide) it will mis completely and you can hit him with pretty much anything. If he does them so that you arent close enough to go under you can ultra 1 to beat it clean, tk izuna if you see it coming early or ex run to whatever move you want. The cross over slash moves can be grabbed quite easily if you are looking for them.
Oni’s ‘Forward Hp’ on block can be punished with Guy’s far stMp, which you can also combo into Run Slide or Ex Hozanto. You have to react quickly with your timing to punish correctly. You can also Whiff punish this move from half-screen fairly easy and if you Interrupt it, you will achieve a counter-hit which you can also earn more damage.
