I’m going to pipe in here for a moment, though I can’t wait till I get yelled at for actually liking Max. Also, to be clear, I haven’t seen much more of his stuff than the recent “Assist Me” videos, so if there’s other stuff he does that warrants all this hate, I dunno about it.
As a really new person to fighting games (Marvel 3 is pretty much my first save for some casuals with other games) I find Max’s videos actually pretty nice. They may not have the most advanced of tactics, or obscenely long combos, but I think what Max is actually aiming for, he nails perfectly. He gives really easy to digest information for characters and presents it in a lighthearted, beginner friendly way. The casual mixing of his skit humor and his actual tutorials is a great balance for newer players who might be a little overwhelmed by some other tutorials. All in all, I think he does a great job at what it is he’s trying to do. And shit, if you think you can make better tutorial videos than him, go for it. Actually put your criticism into action.
Also his dog is cute.
I find Max’s 3S series as the first step towards the rabbit hole. After that comes 4k shend videos and 10+ years later those same noobs are like “WTF just happened??” and are 10yrs deep in their 3S addictions like we are now. It’s a good thing for the community…even if only for the next generation of our community.
That being said, next generation was the best star trek.(!)

IDK…I’m a 3S noob as it were; I’ve owned the game on my ps2 for some time, but have never been around a strong fighting game community until recently so it’s been a learning process testing my chops against many of the more seasoned players online. I enjoy Max’s vids as a new player for the reasons stated above, the information while it shouldn’t exactly be considered gospel has really helped me as far as what to expect when transitioning from the slightly more user friendly SSF4 to this game which is a bit more daunting as far as tactics and techniques are concerned. As far as 3s being easy mode concerning jump ins; In my experiences so far, jumping certainly feels safer in this game than it ever did in SF4 or super turbo, but I’ve also found that it isn’t totally safe unless you can parry on a super consistent, reactionary basis which I cannot by a longshot.
Wow I didn’t want to hear that at all. I just started getting into fighting games when MvC3 came out and I bought a guide, the information in there opened new… and terrifying doors for me. Then I searched on youtube for some help and one of the things I found was TheOnlineWarrior, which has helped me a great deal.
I just joined SRK, deciding that where I was wasn’t good enough and that I needed to find all the help I could to get better. This thread has not helped that at all…
I’ve seen enough of SRK to know that it can be a beautiful thing… now that Max has tweeted this thread I hope no one very new sees this and basses their decision to join SRK on it.

SRK is really a troll nest with useful information. Imagine if when you go to 4chan’s /b/ and every once in a while you go there you get a coupon code for something awesome, or porn. Granted, that a lot of people go to 4chan for porn but you get what I mean I hope.
There’s a ton of good info here for pretty much every fighting game. Plus this is often the place where news is first leaked. I think everyone here heard that the Let’s Go Justin Evo Moment was going to be a trial in 3SOE at least a month or so before it was revealed.
Best thing to do is Lurk, if you have a question try to post it in the appropriate thread instead of creating a new one. I’ve learned to deal with the trolling for the most part, but it’s best to pick your battles.
BTW: If Max is reading this, you should check out the Nicolas Cage movie Deadfall. It’s amazing!
