Well, back in the 70’s and 80’s, tv shows and movies somehow gave impressionable, simple-minded people the idea that chimps are just hairier surrogates for human children, and that they remain small and adorable their whole lives due to these media venues never showing an ADULT chimp in a human household. These same people went out and got chimps as pets to fill their childless lives. Most of them have discovered by now that no matter how well you treat a chimp when you raise it, they grow into deadly assholes who buck the niche they filled as adolescents, and become a threat to the people around them.
Mike, unlike white people, knew to put Bubbles in a habitat once he became an adult.
“Bubbles was initially kept at the Jackson family’s home in Encino, Los Angeles, but was moved to Neverland Ranch in 1988. There, he slept in a crib in Jackson’s bedroom, used the singer’s toilet and ate candy in the Neverland movie theater. In 2003 the public learned that, like all captive chimpanzees, Bubbles had matured into a large and aggressive adult chimp unsuitable as a companion animal. He was sent to a California animal trainer, where he was reported to have attempted suicide. When the trainer closed his operation in 2004, Bubbles was moved to the Center for Great Apes, a sanctuary in Wauchula, Florida, where he has lived since 2005.”
also i think a lot of people confuse monkeys and chimps. my half-uncle had a monkey…they’re terrible pets, throw shit and generally get up to all sorts of monkey business in your house, but they’re not particularly dangerous.
got damn that chimp took it hard when Mike dumped his ass. But fuck I’d be pissed if I had to miss out on daily amusement park rides, candy buffets during personal movie screenings, and child molesting.
Not quite. There was an incident where Mike was playing with Bubbles and Bubbles gently took his hand and YANKED Mike off his feet and ran off chimp-laughing, expecting Mike to chase him and play tag or whatever…about 2 weeks later MJ announced his buddy was going to live someplace else to ensure his happiness. He didn’t get tired of him, he saw that Bubbles had become too big and strong to safely be around and play with, cuz he liked to get physical when he played. Not bad when he was still a tyke. Downright dangerous when he became grown. Plus he was getting too heavy to do his usual thing where he’d run up Michael’s side and be held on his hip like a human child. I feel MJ handled it responsibly…unlike white people, who always get attacked and lose fingers and shit before they finally develop the common sense to have someone who runs a sanctuary to take their chimp.
I think many people see chimps and they think AWWW SO CUTE, what many people do not realize is that chimps are UNBELIEVABLY STRONG. A little chimp is stronger than a roided out linebacker, it’s just deceptive because their frames are so small. I saw two large men barely able to move a heavy box in an experiment to hide a banana, and a chimp push that out of the way by itself without even struggling. Chimps are dangerous because they are territorial animals and will behave aggressively to exert dominance. Even just horseplay could seriously injure an strong adult male. They are NOT a cute little pet.
