I was over at a friends house playing T5, i play steve fox so it requires pressing square and triangle really fast. My technique is to just rub my thumb really quick and it lets out a the 1 2, 1 2, 1 2 2 combo nicely.
Well after like 10 rounds of playing my thumb just starts throbboing and it looks like i split a small piece of skin on the left corner of the nail. It’s a little swollen but it usually goes down in a few days:rofl: , btw we were playing on pad.
Will playing stick help?(I don’t play stick often).
hold the pad horizontally and use first and middle fingers to press the face buttons. i actually thought that’s how most pad players play tekken. i mean, is it even possible to do 1+4 or 2+3 consistently on pad otherwise?
granted, i don’t play much tekken but those 2 options would universally help for any game.
“i mean, is it even possible to do 1+4 or 2+3 consistently on pad otherwise?”
Certainly not consistantly, and the only way to get around it on the DualShock is by clever programming (i.e. programming select combinations to the triggers.) Thankfully you’re given that option, but, even though I use it, it isn’t very ‘authentic.’
You should get yourself a stick, and learn to play with that and nothing else. Much like proper typing technique, it is something that will take some time to learn to get comfortable with. Once you become comfortable using a stick, you will never go back.
Get a stick. And when I’m stuck without my stick I play with two finger tips on the pad buttons. Or you can just develop what we refer to as a “gamer’s Callus.” Shame on you for not having one already in the first place. By now, I can dip my thumb in acid and not have to pull it out for about a minute thanks to good ole non-stop gaming marathons.
I don’t know if you’re doing this already, but do have you tried using the joint of your thumb to slide across the buttons? Not only do you have more control, but your thumb meets less resistence that way.
When I was a younger man back in the SF2 on SNES days I used to throw a tea-towel over the gamepad and play that way. 8 hours straight and no blisters.
Then a year later SNES sticks started appearing, and I never looked back.
Man sticks are damn expensive, I play mostly marvel/T5/ some 3S so I’m trying to track down a decent stick for DC. It looks like I’m going to have to spend at least 100 for a stick, damn.
I see the Sega DC stick on ebay all the time? anybody played one of those like a product review maybe??
Put a band-aid on your thumb, making sure the cushiony part is right where the thumb connects to the button(obviously). Suprised noone else suggested this.
I had that, sort of, it was on my left thumb though (stupid QCF, i should really get a stick.) but the skin came off right in the middle. I just stuck it out and let it heal and i never had it again…it was like the skin on my thumb was stronger or something…
ya most good tekken player dont refer to the full name of the character so its safe to say he is a noob :wgrin: and ive seen very good pad players who only use their thumb and use characters like devil jin and do 1+4 everytime, its really weird.
The Agetec stick with the green buttons? It’s a good stick. It has the clicky feel to it, which turns some people off, but I’ve had mine ever since the DC came out and it’s still a solid piece of hardware.
