I started doing that a long time ago. Now my team is S.Samurai, Marrow and Iron Man (you have to have at least 1 mid tier in there somewhere ).
I use Gambit, Venom, and Bison. Sometimes I swap in Sabertooth.
sabretooth is cool! I just wish he still had the potential he had in XSF. Do you know how to do his wild fang infinite in the corner? the other day I did that weird glitch with the birdie super where u have it come in one after the other.
Marvel Super Heroes has some fantastic stages. Spidermanâs window washing platform up the Daily Bugle building (I think) was awesome.
MvC2 seemed rushed. The stages, and music in MvC1 were awesome. MvC2 has tons of shitty characters, awful stages, and awful music. Itâs like a mugen game with its presentation. Very fun game though.
Oh yeah, Apocalypse as the last boss = win.
Some people may not realize this. The MVC2 backgrounds are a result of the backstory. I know you didnât know MVC2 had a story, but it does. If you browse the MVC2 forums, you can dig it up. Basically they are on a journey to fight abyss, and the backgrounds are indicative of where the adventure leads them. The pirate ship should be obvious. I know the backgrounds seem a bit uninspired, but theyâre consistent with the story, for what itâs worth. I donât think theyâre as bad as people say they are.
I kicked a lot more ass in MvC2 than MvC, big combos were easier to pull off even if you didnât know what you are doing.
I think MvC2 is more accessible with their simplified controls
the 3d backgrounds were definitely cool for their time, even though they made no sense, I remember my friend told me MvC2 came out, I said âwhatâs the differenceâ he said âitâs 3d!!!â so I checked it out and iâm like âthis isnât exactly 3d⌠but itâs badass!â
so yeah, the funky 3d bgs, massive roster, light hearted themed music and simplified controls make it more of a party game than the original.
The backgrounds made sense. As I said before, itâs the story where the backgrounds come from. They are on a journey to fight Abyss. There is even an explanation for the Ghost Funhouse stage.
As far as the combos, I think the assist make the combos more interesting. MVC2 is more about strategy anyway than combos. While big combos exist, better strategies usually wins the game. I like MVC2 more because itâs a bigger screen, so more emphasis on positioning is better. MVC1 seems more random since everything is so in your face. And basically first hit wins the match. I know this exist with MSP in MVC2. But Magneto canât kill you with the infinite, he needs to reset, meaning that if you guess right, youâre free from the offensive slaughter. In MVC1, infinites CAN kill you, lame.
As far as presentation is concerned, MVC1 is probably better.
Still doesnât make the backgrounds any good.
Party game? Go play Brawl if you want a party game, really hate this trend with casuals players wanting everything to be a party.
The simplified controls is one of the reason you only see the same 4 characters over and over again.
Interesting you bring that up. Personally I donât believe MVC2 was meant to be a series competitive game. None of the previous games had much competitive appeal. Okay, people play XvSF, but just for the novelty. And itâs only been recent with Dogface and Canadaâs mission to revive the game. Other than that, I canât think of any of the previous versus games that had a strong competitive scene. Capcom knew this and just decided to make a fun game and thow whatever in there.
I think the mentality of the developers is why the game is imbalanced, not any specific system design flaw.
+1 for MvC1, it was just more fun to play IMO.
I suppose if they actually put the level of effort of MvC1 into MvC2, it would have taken forever due to the sheer size of the roster.
this is a joke right? this is just terrible.
the other VS series were pretty popular in their hay day. Its just when the VS started coming out, they kept updating them. xvsf, mshvssf, mvc1 etc⌠mvc2 was the last incarnation we had so its managed to stay in the spot light for the last 10 yrs.
mvc1 was extremely popular in NY iirc. josh wigfall, arturo, and EDDIE LEE!!! matter of fact, @ one of the ECCâs west coast came out to the east coast to battle in mvc1. You might be able to find some clips of valle and viscant playing. eddie lee won that tournament to.
who knows about the 4 deadly venoms?

almost every advanced 2d fighter has a few characters that can perform infinite combos or balance issues
some of these games shouldnât be played competitively but they are

a good MvC2 tournament would make competitors choose their characters at random, then you can really see some cool matches.
yeah party game
go to any douchebag bromo party and the game theyâre all playing comes back invariably MvC2.
well itâs SFIV now but before that it was MvC2.
Well in the real world this doesnt happen, sorry to burst your bubble. I have never heard of any reputable tournament doing such a thing. If Capcom didnt rape most of the cast with the 4 button layout you wouldnt even have to suggest such stupidity.
Well good thing I never went to one of your frequent parties cause the ones I attended were playing 3s and other better more balanced fighters.
It was extremely popular in NYC and in CT. Josh Wigfall was NO JOKE. Eddie Lee was probably the best out of all of us.
The ECC that west coast came out to was in 1999, that was one awesome tourney. shit was too hype! Viscant with his crazy Geif, and it was the first time I ever got to play Valle. He was a Street Fighter god to me back then so getting to play him in an actual tournament was awesome.
I wish there were videos from that day.
We need a real MVC1 revival!
EDIT: Holy shit, I actually found the tournament report from back then!

Some of Viscant and Arturoâs posts on the 1999 tourney. I love SF history!
Nobody makes you choose random characters⌠I am saying they should, then it would be a good tournament with lots of fun moments - but then none of the serious players will join up because theyâll be too afraid.
Tell me some of the âbetter more balanced fightersâ being played at the cool parties out there.
VF5, SCIV⌠Project Justice??
I disagree. I remember playing in MSH and XSF tournaments, and the competitive scene was there. Hell, I started hosting tournaments back with XSF, and thatâs pretty much what started the tournament scene here.
By the time MvC came out, the series had a good following, and the tournament scene was definitely picking up steam in the US, and up here too.
The MvC tournament at ECC4 was fucking awesome.
Im feeling so nostalgic right now~
Im jumping onto GGPO tonight for some old school action, if anybody wants to beat up a rusty OG MVC1 player GET AT ME PLEASE!!!
