I mean with no intention on winning
Not like anyone cares that a no name is Money matching a Well known player unless the No name ends up winning.
And Why even MM if you have no intention on winning?
Lol what the fuck
It’s post 09 fighting games. Of course this has happened.
You could probably MM people for like $20, no need to put up $90, FGC is hungry for the bucks. Also I wish I had that guys sweet anti-flow, that’s practically a pompadour
I once did a .75 cent money match against a guy at my locals in P4A. We only did it because we were having fun and casually said lets put money on it and actually put money on it.
KoreanDJ the Smash player ran money matches against pros when he sucked to get them to play seriously in order to learn
A player in my scene said something once to the effect of, “why play if you don’t realistically think you’ll be able to finish in the money?” He meant entering tournaments in general, but the same definitely applies to money matches.
I’m not about to just throw money away MMing a player I know I won’t beat in a Ft5.
You could argue entering tournaments you know you can’t top 3 (or eight in larger brackets) is worthwhile for the experience, and that is a more interesting line of discussion. Playing one set you are predestined to lose, and paying for the opportunity to play said set is dumb as hell.
I’m sort of in the camp that you play casuals to gain experience with the game and learn matchups you don’t often play. There are often many casual stations at any given tournament, so the “well, I don’t see X characters in my local scene, the only time I can practice the matchup is in tournament” excuse doesn’t really fly. I suppose its partly due to playing a game with a small scene, Florida has maybe five KoF players that are worth a damn, but if I’m paying money to enter a tournament, its money or bust.
Personally, if I want to get better at a game, I have no problem with betting $5 on a MM against a player who will probably beat me.
I MM a Guy player at Dustbowl (Upstate NY Tournament), he bodied me but it taught me some valuable match-up experience. Plus, I just made Top 16 so I was feeling cocky and thought no one could beat me lol.
Classic moment
If you’re going to bet any amount of money on a match, it better be against someone that you stand a reasonable chance of beating or having a fair fight.
Doing it for any other reason is either a) stupid, b) an expensive learning lesson, c) both.
what the fuck is up with that guy who’s crying…
I once money matched CORNS Antwan Ortiz and Mitten Mashers Mondays because I wanted to play him (he is much better than me) but didn’t want to wait all night because I was with a very hot girl waiting for me to get her naked
Money match? Nah.
Entering a tournament whilst not expecting to make the money back?
Hell yeah, it’s worth it just for a fun day or two out seeing how far you can get, and whilst face to face casuals are really cool, it’d just feel weird for me to go to a tournament and not play in it.
There are plenty of things you could pay the same price for with no chance to make your money back whatsover, so why is going from no chance to a slim chance changing it to a bad deal?
Sometimes I feel like it’s necessary. Playing against someone with nothing to lose is annoying cause they will do the most impractical stuff and not be concern if it works or not. You can’t play mind games cause they’re not thinking, just doing whatever you think will work. It’s more annoying in SFIV with so many get out of dodge options one of them is bound to work. It just results in both of you rolling the dice against each other.
