Anyone here bought a VEWLIX kit from KRAY?

I’m really close to ordering a V4. Of course I have dumb questions. As far as LCD Tvs…I can’t find the LG 32LD350 anymore. Frustrating.

  1. What about Sony, Samsung or Panasonic?

  2. What’s the easiest way to wire up? Hack some controllers, PS360 or just buy 2 WWE Brawl sticks for the guts? Then just add a JlF and Sanwas.

  3. VGA vs HDMI

  4. 720 vs 1080

Thanks!!

I’m going straight JAMMA on my cabinet, so I can’t say what the “best way” is. I think the PS360+ from FocusAttack is the most universal way to wire the controls up. Use all SANWA stuff, it really is the best (IMHO), and is readily avail from FocusAttack.com. You could cannab a brawl stick but none of the buttons will work, you need the screw on type.

If you are going to throw a PS3 or XBOX 360 in there, use HDMI… it’s clearly the best choice. No conversions needed.

For resolution, 1080P will give you the best overall quality. You could get away with a 720, I can’t tell the difference.

TVs are TVs. Get a low lag, or not. You will have to figure out a way to mount it properly no matter what. I chose a 33" long MDF shelf that I drilled pocket holes into the sides, a vesa mounting hole scheme and then put it in. Pictures coming soon.

That’s awesome i thought about building one and doing that myself be sure to post lots of pictures when it is done.

I will be… I am actively working on it as we speak!

You want to make this a jamma cab? What type of games are you planning to hook up?

Today I am wiring it up. Very excited to get it up and running.

For the games I plan on sticking with Street Fighter series. The great thing about JAMMA is I can swap things out though as I wish. So when I feel like playing my TMNT/Simpsons/XMEN I quick swap and go.

So you want to play old school Jamma games? Why not just get a candy cabinet w/ lagless crt. You just can’t beat the look on a Nano monitors when it comes too old school game plus has the right screen size which is 4:3.

Because:

  1. I can.
  2. I can dual purpose the cab to use a PS3 if I chose.
  3. This is my third cab, first non-dedicated.
  4. I like the style of this cab and like JAMMA originals but don’t like to lug around huge CRTs and pay for them.
  5. Ultimately I want a SSF4 JAMMA setup to use in It.
  6. Candys/Astros aren’t common on the east coast.
  7. Building cabs and wiring them is fun.
  8. Fixing up someone else’s mess isn’t always fun and usually costs a lot of cash repairing stupidity.

Oh, and because I like to support community members that have awesome products, like Kraylix.

  1. Candy cabs are a lot easier to move then a kraylix cab. I agree I love kray’s work. That’s why I bought 3 of them. I just find it odd to spend more money and time on an end product that will produce lag and non proper display. Kray setup is more geared to modern console. Just giving a heads up.

rcaido, let’s get over it and just agree that these types of comments are not needed in a brag about my KrayLix thread. How about leaving our personal feelings of how someone sets up their cab out of it and offer tech assistance when asked…

Well, progress has been made! The KrayLix is fully wired up, powered up, but no video. Turns out the Video Converter I used (I strayed from JROK) only has VGA out and my TV only has Compononet/HDMI in! Amazon is sending a new VGA–>HDMI converter (lagless… so they say). At least it sounds good and it sounds like all of the buttons work (I hear coins chiming and the game starts by sound). I spent a good 8.5 hours working on it today to finish it up, so I am dog tired and have no energy to dig out my card reader to upload images.

This project has been a lot of fun. I’ll be posting up a total cost list when done. I figure that a JAMMA vs. a PS3 setup is about a $100 difference after you account for a video encoder vs. PS360 or otherwise. Of course that does not include the cost of a PS3 and a game to stick in it. More to follow!

PS. I only paid $400 for the paint job (in the DC area). The guy said he would never paint a cab that cheap again as it was a lot of work and a lot of material. So, when planning/budgeting for paint I would imagine $600-$700 is more along the lines of a finishing price. Keep in mind I just assembled it and but a little bondo in a few places, the painter did the rest… and it wasn’t that great of a job overall (it’s good but not as perfect as it could have been).

I was gonna ask who your painter was but then saw how much you paid and that he won’t do it again. I still want to have my clone (non kraylix but from the same design) repainted but for that price, i can get another cab.

I would say $400 is very reasonable for the prep-work associated with the cabinets. MDF is a huge PIA to paint. A lot of primer, a lot of sanding, a lot of bondo. Materials are cheap. He used automotive paint too (a requirement by me) which can be a bit pricey for good stuff that will last.

If you are in the DC/Northern VA area I have all of the stuff to paint (air compressor, spraygun, etc) and can help you out… if you provide a garage. I don’t have one in the rental house I am in. The house I own in Miami and Groton have one, but not here :(… it really limits what I can do!

If it makes you happy or anyone else happy by having an lcd for jamma who am i to tell them they are wrong. I was just giving a heads up to people who may not have that experience yet or planning to. I was just pointing out the cons which is tech assistance IMO.

As for painting cabs, i did my first one on my own & it was pain in the ass & turned out bad. The prepping alone took forever to do, so i decided to get the my 2 slims done by an auto guy too. I forget how much he charge but he was a bit pissed off on how much prep work it took to do. He also told me he wouldn’t do it again, especially for that price. He didn’t even do a good job. I should have done it myself.

So if you guys want a beautiful paint job cab, just let Kray do it…Very good pricing & looks amazing.

my slim & 2-player

man awesome work man, we all appreciat it. Can you make a marvel theme and share if its not to much

Contact d3v for artwork…he’s one of the BEST I’ve seen. Does all my art…and doesn’t charge too much. BOOM!

squee just put my deposit down for a painted V4 2-player cabinet!!!

When I unveil MY KRAYLIX…your MINDS will be BLOW!!! Trust me!

I just bought a new 32" TV to replace my the one that come with my kraylix. The problem is that the new TV has a very thin bezel and can almost fit though the opening. I’d like to get some ideas on how to mount this new monitor.<br>
