put wires in the screw down terminals for your buttons. and solder them to the te pcb
de-solder or last resort(cut) the usb wire from the te pcb then read the welcome sheet and it explains in details which wire goes where for the te pcb to the CHIMP smd and the out going wires for the external usb.
if you need more explaining, just reply. in a sense it is indeed the same as a chimp or MC and imp install. just review the welcome doc and all is clear.
Well I understand it now, but now my blue and red LEDs are blinking… and my directionals wont work on PS3, but I had them working on 360 yesterday… i followed how to splice the wire in that one tutorial by donovan myers, but im modding a SFIV SE stick… not sure if its diff… plz lemme know
are you using a 360 se pcb? explain what works and doesnt for each platform to help debug the issue at hand. sounds like you have a weak connection or bad solder joint if you did solder. unless you placed them in the wrong places
When its plugged into the xbox 360, it works fine, when i plug it into the PS3 it starts to blind red and blue, im not sure what im doing wrong here, everything seems in their right places on the chimp.
The USB wires coming from the Xbox 360 PCB needs to go to the Set of USB terminals on the Chimp marked with an X in front (Such as XD+ or XD- )
VCC Red wire (+5 volts Line)
XD- White wire (Data -)
XD+ Green wire (Data +)
GND Black wire (ground)
Use the VCC and GND that are next to the XD- and XD+ and no where else.
Those 4 should all be together on one side of the Chimp, its the same side the directions go for the joy stick.
If any of your Xbox 360 wires are going any where else , such as OD+ or OD-, that is for your out going USB cable if you are not using the pre-installed USB jack.
Same order for wiring, but this is only for your out going cable. The OD+ and OD- are on the side of the board that have Star, Select and Home terminals.
USB wires are fine on the x360 pcb. All wires are hooked up where they need to be. I dont think its the problem because if those wires werent in those places the x360 controls wouldnt work. But they do and ps3 doesnt, and the chimpsmd being a ps3 controller in itself makes no sense.
Do all the buttons and everything need to be plugged into the chimp before the ps3 will work? Because i only have the directionals, home button and the usb wires from the xbox 360 pcb in the chimp just to test and see if the ps3 will take the input for the directionals.
I have a 160gig slim ps3, dunno if it makes a difference.
Yup thats what i mainly have goin, i have the VCC XD+ XD- and GND from my xbox360 pcb to the chimpsmd and 4 directionals and home button, and then a usb cord from the chimps onboard usb port to my xbox/ps3 and it just sits there and blinks red and blue when plugged into the ps3 and nothing works, then when plugged into an xbox360 it works fine and im able to play mvc3 and the whole shabang.
Here is a guide that would help.
Its for the older version of the Chimp, but the other board is a SE/TE board and it is the same.
The up side is the Mad Catz SE and TE uses the same PCB.
I am thinking you have the Chimp wires for the PS3 side of the controls mixed up.
I do that every once in a while, have 3k mixed up with 4P or something to that effect.
theres something going on with the power somewhere, because sometimes ill wiggle around the cables and itll light up solid blue and red but still no directionals are working… should the ground for the JLF stick be on the chimpsmd as well?
Ok i figured it out, i wiggle the usb connector in the chimpsmd’s usb port, the directionals start to work for the ps3, now im wondering if i got a bad chimp or a i have a bad cord…
Yup its a bad port on the chimp, i tried a brand new cord, same thing. i have to press the cord up really hard for it to reckognize it.
I called lizardlick and they said they will talk with toodles, but i may be able to find a new USB port to solder in the spot to replace it.
You can also use the 4 screw terminals for the USB instead of using the equipped USB port.
it is the ones with the OD- and OD+
The ground for the JLF can go to any point on the Chimp SMD that is labeled gnd or to any ground point on the Xbox 360 pcb. Since the Xbox 360 pcb ground is connected to the Chimp ground via the Xbox 360’s usb cable. Hence the term common ground.
a few tips. at that point i know with my laptop i have to reboot when i do usb work. even after i fixed it, the pc just will say no. so i advise a reboot inbetween usb wiring. then like the others said, verify for atleast one platform you can get the stick to work. i think default is pc/ps3 mode so give that a whirl, if not try 360 mode or with a 360 and give that a whirl. just make sure all your connections are ok with a meter and make sure all grounds on the te board go to the ground on the chimp. not sure if this info is helpful but good luck.
