Anyone ever have to exchange or get a refund from gamestop?

I purchased a street fighter 4 fightpad from the two weeks ago but now the d-pad is registering up, i was wondering if they’d let me exchange it but when i look at my local gamestop they don’t seem to have anymore fightpads in stock.I know it is a noob question and i apologize if it pisses any one off.

Why not call your local Lamestop…and ask them yourself?

If you bought before their warranty policy expired and still have a receipt they’d probably have to issue you a refund if they have no more fightpads in stock. I don’t know but they’ll probably let you exchange it for something else of equal value. That’s what happened with my old Ps2 controller I got but times have changed.

I once had to return a brand new game that didn’t function out of the box. They let me exchange for a new one no problem. If they’re out of stock of those fight pads, I’d imagine they’d just give you your money back. Best answer to your question is just to call them though.

They actually have a pretty abuseable return policy. At least, for their games. As long as you bring it back within 7 days of purchasing it, they’ll give you a full refund regardless of the reason. It’s a great way to [S]burn basically free Wii games to your hard drive without having to go through the hassle of downloading them all [/S] get your money back if the product is defective, or if you just weren’t pleased with the product.

I once returned a copy of Kengo: Legend of the 9 that I bought used, because the game was complete shit.

This only works on pre-owned items.

If you buy anything brand new, you are on your own the second you leave the shop and open it up.

Ah, well yes.

Paging @Sonichuman

I remember back in the N64 days I bought, and beat, Quest 64 (cuz I was starved for an RPG), and when they asked what was wrong with it, I told them “this game sucks my balls” and they let me exchange it.

Someone called?

Gamestop Return policy: New accessories can be exchanged or returned within 30 days…If you’re trying to return it though then there’s a high chance we will need the original box in order to except it especially if it’s defective so we can ship it out. If it’s a swap out then we can just take the box that you would have received with the new item.

New Games have a 30 day defective swap out policy or can be fully returned within the 30 days so long as it is not open (open meaning the plastic is off or the seal on the envelope has not been broken. If you receive a New game with NO seal on it do NOT except it because that can possibly screw you over.

There are a few Managers that are going to be assholes about this and not want to do the return DESPITE what the policy says and will try to talk their way out of it (my district has at least 1 of these). There are a couple of ways you can go about this situation…1. Point out what the policy states to make sure he/she knows that you understand what it says 2. If they are continuing to refuse to do it then you can always ask for the District Manager’s number to see if they change their tune to that 3. A different option will always be to go to a different GS to do the return there and/or get the DM’s number in the event that the store you were in refuses to give it to you.

Take note these steps only work if you are in the RIGHT. Please don’t be one of THOSE guys…

Lastly I’m also going point out 2 other things. 1 being that the Return Policy should be in full on the back of your receipt and 2 being that at the bottom of each receipt you recieve from GS is a survey that gives you a direct line to the District Manager. Any complaints or praises that you have to give to that store he will be able to see through that…trust me if there’s enough of the same complaints then the DM (assuming he’s doing his job) will have a little talk with the Store Manager. Again please don’t be THAT guy…

It’s funny, because there are two Game Stops in my town and one of them doesn’t let me “make returns to their store” anymore despite the fact that it goes against their policy. The manager literally told all the employee’s there not to let me return anything else there.

Reasonable grounds to make a call to his DM?

I was GONNA get a refund from them during the dreamcast days. See, they had an advance copy of sf3 alpha for dreamcast in the store’s unit, so I thought it had come out, so I wanted a copy. I got home when I looked at the disc and saw a light scratch emanating from the center to the outside edge. I walked back to the store only to find suddenly the dreamcast display unit is running some generic tennis title, all the controllers are unplugged, and the guy behind the counter (my cashier had left 10 mins ago) was like “No, sfa3 comes out next thursday”. I was like “hmm…fuck it, game still plays just fine.”

Did he give a reason as to why specifically you can’t make returns to the store? I’ll have to get back to this after I finish seeing Wreck It Ralph.

lolowned. srsly tho what an ass.

i think they let you exchange anything as long as you have the receipt and it’s been 7 days or less since you purchased the item. i’m not sure about fightpads, though. the very first game i bought from gamestop didn’t work (used), and they let me exchange it for a different game that was the same price. if they don’t have any sticks yet, i’m sure they’ll give you store credit that you can use at a later time when they do get what you want. your money’s as good as anyone else’s, and they don’t want people to take money away from the store.

Nope. Just came back to return something used one day, and one of the employee’s there told me her manager told them not to let me return games there anymore after this transaction. I was pissed.

How often did you do this? If it gets to be a weekly thing then they’ll start looking hard at you about it. Yes, they do state a 7 day return policy on used returns, but I’ve known some people who’ve turned it into a free rental policy and abuse the hell out of it.

the game i mentioned earlier played the beginning cinematics and everything, but it would always freeze after the actual gameplay started. i was very surprised to see that the gamestop employees took my word that the game didn’t work and just let me pick out something else. i figured they’d take me in the back and put it in a playstation they had.
i’m sure they expect a lot of returns on used items; have you seen how messed up some of those disks are? what do people do to their games? =O all my games still look new lol.

They don’t have to do anything for you. The return policy states that they reserve the right to refuse any return, so anyone with the authority to make that decision (a manager?) could be a colossal prick to you and you wouldn’t be able to do anything. I’m sure that won’t happen, but it’s always good to know that most stores’ return policies are worthless due to that one sentence.

The manufacturer probably has a similar clause.
