SF4 was my first and (up to SF5) only fighting game I played…
Of course I fooled around with ST as a kid bit apart from tatsu/ hado I didnt know any moves…
Anyway, SF4 was my entry game, but there were still things I hated about it.
Setup play which I never bothered to learn
1frame links which were no fun to practice and scared away my friends from getting into the game…
overall reliance on option selects which made me feel like Im not even playing the game myself… “I did not have that read, the game did.”
Street Fighter 5 so far has gotten rid of that. I always enjoyed the “footsie” game the most and that’s emphasized in the new title.
I may be an 09er, but Im already having more fun in SF5 than I ever did in 4
V-trigger can be used to make moves safe much like FADC, can be used to freeze the screen to allow for charging a move or anti-airing properly or can also be used to extend combos, ie it’s multi-layered. V-skills being different for every character is also good as every matchup feels distinct. There’s an article by Seth Killian, iirc, that talks balance, and how having all similar moves does not make a game fun even though it is balanced. To me v-skill are a refreshing way to make the characters feel really distinct. Also, lastly, Focus Attacks were really not as advantageous for some characters in 4. Some would benefit greatly from it, some not at all. Overall I feel like SFV nailed down multi-layering, especially for a launch release which is bound to add new features and mechanics down the road anyway.
SFV is a return to the series roots with it’s poor space control and homogenized cast. People who don’t like it just can’t handle a real Street Fighter.
Nah, that’s silly. People seem to forget SF4 had some proper footsies because it has so much more on top of it. SF V has only footsies. There’s very little room for innovation and creativity in this game compered to SF4, SxT (there are some really neat stuff you can do in this game tbh) and especially marvel because of the way it was designed. I’m convinced it will go down in flames if they don’t make some major changes to the gameplay. This shit will get unwatchable pretty soon on streams and it can already get quite boring to play even vs decent players.
Agreed. I understand what SFIV did for the community and what-not… but it is clearly the black sheep of the entire Street Fighter series. SFIV had so many uncharacteristic elements to the gameplay, it was hard for me to stomach (and still is). Things like floaty jumps, huge reversal windows, 1 frame links (plinking), invincible back dashes, FADC and a high concentration of OS were all elements of SFIV that turned me off. Furthermore, new players introduction to SFIV had begun to regard this as the norm and consequently are upset that many of those elements do not exist in SFV. Not to mention the general aesthetic, animations, music and character designs in SFIV are arguably some of the worst in the entire series.
Even 3S, for all it’s eccentricities… is closer to true SF than people like to admit.
Morons like you don’t even try and comprehend the point I’m making, so let me explain clearly and thoroughly enough so even the most simpleton-like mouthbreather such as yourselves can understand:
There is no point in comparing the vanilla version of a fighting game to any fighting games that have been existence for much longer than a week. Street Fighter is very well known for the vanilla version of games being not as fleshed out or enjoyable as future updated version (aside from SF2: WW cause obviously that was a critically acclaimed success).
@outburs Your argument about the betas being in existence for much longer and basically being a reflection of the current product doesn’t change the fact that this game isn’t even close to done. I’m not disagreeing with you or the OP in saying that the game is in a poor state, I’m saying that he’s dumb for even making a post about it and claiming to have so much knowledge about with hardly much experience with the game, knowing full well that it’s not even a finished product. Even the OP isn’t a big of a clown as you though, because you’re missing the point in a much worse way than he is.
This game is released as a 60 dollar full game, but all the content is being released in chunks, something that many other developers are doing and people have no problem lapping up when it’s a hell of a lot worse under other companies… I’m not the biggest Capcom fan by any stretch of the imagination, but at least with Capcom the content isn’t going to come with an additional price tag (aside from the season pass for all the costume packs + other random premium content that doesn’t affect gameplay whatsoever). In addition to that, Street Fighter’s history of releasing a more technically advanced version of the predecessor (I.E. New Generation vs. 3rd Strike, World Warrior vs. Super Turbo, IV vs Ultra IV, etc.) should once again shine through and bring a product worthy of that 60 dollar price tag (Capcom never stated they were going to charge more for a new disc for Super V or anything like that.)
If Capcom really does fuck up and this game ends up being the giant turd that you guys are making it out to be, then cool, I’ll even be by your side shitting on it. As of right now though, despite the lack of content because of how chunked up it is, the gameplay is actually really enjoyable, and only the scrubbiest of scrubs make the argument that more mechanics automatically = more depth. Those kinds of people are usually the worst at games in general, and try to cling onto reasons (excuses) for their losses. Read up on Seth Killian’s Domination 101 if you want to learn more.
As for @doubleoh over here, I’m glad that you’re a fan of eugenics, because you should definitely volunteer to be first since you seem to be the prime example of a “retard”. You know what there is to compare this version of SFV to? The vanilla versions of all the games I mentioned. I suggest you read and use your pea-brain to attempt to comprehend even a tiny portion of what I had to say, and then maybe, just maybe, you won’t come off as a joke.
No, to me the gameplay is not a Joke.
To me, it feel like STREET FIGHTER again. I liked SFIV, but after a while, learning combos, FADC just to do the same dmg you can do with a HP in third strike bored me to hell.
One of many things that make Third Strike my favorite fighting game ever, is how every character feels actually different, and with the v system SFV is doing the same thing. The gameplay is more fluid and normals actually matters, i love that.
The main problem with V is how it lacks, right now, some basic and so mutch needed things for a fighting game: the cast is good, and the new characters are way better than the IV ones to me, but it needed at least 6 more ready for release…
No unlockable characters is a big disappointment.
I really think SFV was a F2P game in Capcom’s Mind and nowhere in the universe it deserve the 60$ price tag right now.
It’s a bland and “already dead” fighting game? No way.
It will expand and get better better? I hope so, i believe so, people and newcomers just needs to stick around and support the game.
