Anyone else not buying into the SFV hype?

Netcode in this game is so awful why couldn’t they get that right :((

I’ll buy a copy for moi, my momma, my sister, my cousin, my bae… thats 5 copies yo. Make that shit happen. Fuck it make it a digital only game like Super Turbo HDR.

The netcode works great if both people are wired and don’t have dialup.

But most people who play on ps4 are wireless and connect to the open router in their neighborhood.

This sentence makes no sense. It’s not possible to be good at 4 and not OS. I would even argue that you aren’t even really PLAYING SF4 if you aren’t doing those things. The game may as well have been called Option Select Fighter Four.

Seriously, this week has been a mashfest where, save for Infiltration, he who pulls the most DPs wins.

Warzone - PR Balrog vs Chris Tatarian on finals
Texas Showdown - PR Balrog vs Julio on finals
RBK - 2 Kens, 2 Ryus, 1 cammy, 1 Necalli. The more Tokido mashes DPs disrespects his opponents, the better he does.

Three months is more than enough to see the writing on the line. For those yelling “it’s only three months”, there may be a character specialist or two that gets a top8 slot every now and then in the future but the flow of the game at high levels is mostly solidified.

It’s funny to bring that up considering I remember other people saying how weak DPs were in this game or they needed to be stronger. Guess that doesn’t need to happen. DPs are good though because they are strong on offense too. Characters like Necalli thrive on you pressing a jab, jumping or backdashing to escape a command grab and then DP it. Then you stop pressing buttons and get command grabbed.

No it doesn’t, I wire up vs players who wire up and who i’ve played offline in other games and the netcode is complete trash.

When I do ranked and ask for 5 bars with confirmation (because these idiots still give me 1 bar games somehow) it’s actually fine.

It’s a real struggle to find a good battle lounge tho and it kinda pisses me off.

Meta’s take time to evolve. If you honestly think 3 months is enough time to see any writing on the wall then you simply don’t know what the fuck you are talking about. At around the 3 months point in SF4 people could not effectively deal with balrog mashing jab on wakeup. 3 months into MvC3 people thought Sent was OP as fuck still cause his “high damage”. 3 Months into SFV you apparently think mashing out DP’s is too good.

Another thing to note is that due to DP being crush counter state on recovery might make the other guy think you are going to respect him

Momochi got blown up so many times when Bonchan saw it coming

Eventually people will chill out and you know…block those reversals. For a game that is going to be alive for five, six, seven plus years we don’t know a damn thing yet. This is especially true considering there will be retooling periodically. It is just too soon to say that mashing DPs is high level play, even if it is right now.

It’s weird, they’re good because they’re bad. People don’t respect the wakeup because you don’t think your opponent will bet the round on a DP and you can’t make it safe like SF4…but for that reason it works. This is part of why the shimmy has grown so popular. If they tech you get a full combo, and if they DP you get a CC combo.

To be fair, MvC sent got hit by the nerf bat HARD, and then was still finding his way to top 8s and winning majors. I’m sure he’d still be considered OP if he hadn’t been nerfed, so that’s really not a good example of “Meta taking time”. His damage didn’t have that much to do with why he was considered OP, either.

Sentinel was top tier support in Vanilla MVC3even if he would have still had hard counter pick matchups. He was never really OP considering that Wolverine, Wesker, Zero, Phoenix and Dante were in the game. Those characters effectively made him balanced. Plus other characters like Amataresu that hard countered him and had just as strong or better support value.

If the game went on for 2 years there wouldn’t be much reason to use him as invincible assist (Tron/Haggar) + Phoenix was all you really needed in that game, but he’d still be good for some teams that planned on fighting against Phoenix. You could also usea more zoning based Phoenix team that would give up an invincible assist to be more lame and set up zoning/pressure with drones to buy time for Phoenix.

You know, fundamentals are rewarded in every SF game.

This is nothing but theory-crafting on the basis of 0 evidence. The fact is that even the super nerfed sent won majors. Nothing you said is relevant at all. It was a poor comparison.

AKA you don’t know or didn’t play the game. Sent didn’t win shit and years down the line after the nerf people realized the health nerf was unnecessary. It isn’t theory crafting when it actually happened. Late in Vanilla’s life it was all about Phoenix teams and inv assists. But please keep trying to re-write history so you can pretend to know what you are talking about.

woops

Nope I’m right. Read what Brightside said. We had long discussions about this while Vanilla was out. Sent was ass as a point character in the meta and not top tier

I wouldnt say Sentinel was ass. He was a solid mid high tier character that got nerfed for no good reason.

After a week of playing this, the game is very fun. Have some gripes about a thing or two with it but those have to do with more about how i would like certain things to work.

Think the lack of hype is mostly from people wanting to buy a visual novel and spent money on a fighting game instead.

I really like the game, but my sessions are definitely shorter when compared to other SF games. I wish there was a bit more variety in playstyle.
