Anybody having problems with PSN version of CAPCOM FIGHTING EVOLUTION?

Based on the previous posters on this thread, the following appear to not work post-4.50:

  • PS360+
  • Toodles’ PCBs (at least the MC Cthulhu, but they’re all (Cthulhu, MCC, ChImp) based on the same code)

While I don’t have a backwards-compatible PS3 myself, my brother does, and he lives less than 5 minutes away from me. I may be tempted to purchase CvS2 on PSN in the next day or two just for the sake of experimenting, since I’m also wondering where do other PS3-licensed controllers stand (ie, Hori Fighting Commander 3 Pro and not-Pro, both of which I have).

I’ve tested the PS360+, PS3 Cthulhu, MC Cthulhu, Paewang…None of them work correctly in CVS2 post 4.5. Havent tested the Fighting edge or the VLX yet.

On the flipside, the Paewang was not working pre-4.50 anyways.

For test, please report if you used a PS2 game disk or is the PS2 game a PSN download.

I got an idea for the tootles PCBs

Power on your system
Hold 1K, [2P,3K and UP on the joystick as you plug your stick that has a Cthulhu or Chimp
[edit] Its 1k and 3K

You force the PCB into Virtual Stick High Grade mode, now your stick will emulate a Sega VSHG
See if this works in CVS 2?

[edit] It is confirm it works on PS2 titles, Disk and Download

Still haven’t bought the PSN download of CvS2 yet (will probably do that shortly).
Tested my Hori Fighting Commander 3 Pro and not-Pro earlier on a backwards-compatible PS3 (running 4.50) with a physical disc of CvS2. No go on either of them.
I don’t think I ever tested it pre-4.50, however.

I’ll try a few things after I’ve bought/downloaded CvS2.

EDIT Should’ve specified that the HFC3 Pro/not-Pro doesn’t work entirely (not the “buggy” behavior), so I’m presuming that it never worked to begin with pre-4.50.

So I downloaded and ran CvS2 from PSN to follow Darksakul’s suggestion above.

I forced the MC Cthulhu to run in VSHG mode (it’s actually 1P+1K on plug-in, not the one mentioned above). And CvS2 works fine.

So at least we have some sort of workaround for the time being.

I tried 1K, 2P, 3K and UP and check the results on my PC.
So I reported what works on me
I knew of the VSHG mode but forgot the combination so I resulted to trial and error.

I need to try what you did, you more than likely right.

I resorted to trial and error as well on my PC to find what the VSHG mode was; pressing Up+1K+2P+3K resulted in Xbox360 mode on my dual-mod (it’s actually just 1K+2P+3K). Came across the 1P+1K by fluke when I tried 1P+2P+1K, and I narrowed it down from there, checking out the Device Manager constantly on my PC while I’m at it.

Anyways, tried it like that on the PS3 with CvS2 running and I could move the characters properly.

This also means that the official VSHG sticks (with the stock PCB) will work as well.

Okay, my list… Tested with CvS2 on PSN and disc. Hope this helps:

VSHG Yes, on both
HRAP 3 (amazon.jp edition, if that matters) Only on disc
HRAP 3 N3-SA No for both
Fighting Edge No for both
VLX no for both

What is interesting, besides the HRAP 3 working on one but not the other, is that all of the sticks that didn’t work on disc do not work at all.

But on the PSN version, it is clearly recognizing inputs. I can move a teeny bit with each movement of the lever, and input buttons. So while I cannot really move with any sort of freedom, I CAN pull off specials and supers.

Thanks for your awesome help Kong.

I am assuming the Hrap 3 amazon.jp edition is a older model/edtion stick?

It’s the one from like, 2008.

This guy:

There should be a fix for what was broken in the next firmware update (4.53) but I can’t announce a release date for it nor can I confirm exactly how much/which sticks it will fix. Sorry but you may have to wait several weeks before for the next update comes out. If it does not fix all of the sticks we’ll just assemble another list of of controllers that don’t work and see if they can get them fixed in the following update.

If you read the rest of the thread you notice the Hori Fighting Edge does not work with Cvs2 or any other PS2 game on the PS3.

And you’ll notice also that I described the exact behavior you show. ;p

So nobody has tried an inpin yet? I dont own any classic titles on the ps3, i use my ps2 for that. But to anyone that is having a problem with cvs2/cfe do you own darkstalkers resurrection? Is it the same for that too? Because i have that game and it works fine with my inpin and hori stick.
Figured id ask, havent seen much of inpin mentioned besides in the untested list

I guess dsr isnt really considered a classic on the psn but its still a ps2 port. But who knows

yes, I read the whole thread, it was here that I found the problem, however had many people in my area who did not understand the problem (in fact, some people did not even know), and I made the video because maybe with a visual proof is easier to sony understand your sh*t.

What else do you want, a Cookie? Reading is fundamental, especially in a highly technical field like electronics.

If I didn’t already know better and did not see the title and topic of this thread I would have no idea what your video was about. Zero Context.
It took me some eye squinting and pausing the video to see the stick in question was a Hori Fighting Edge. There also no clear audio or text dialog explaining whats going on. No text in the description box on the Youtube page ether. All I can tell is your one arcade stick didn’t work with CVS2, I can’t even tell if you are playing the game on the PS3, Xbox 360, Original Xbox, Dreamcast or PS2. Yeah there is a PS3 slim in the shot for a split second but the average viewer isn’t going to notice.
And the title of the video “cvs2 arcade stick problems” does not offer enough context what is going on.

I have a problem with anybody playing CAPCOM FIGHTING EVOLUTION…
