Anybody got a GP2X/Pandora or similar?

Honestly I think handheld emulation is one of the rare instances in the console world where if you’re looking for a system you’ve got plenty of good choices.

I will consider a Pandora when I can score one for a lower price, and I’m already happy with my Dingoo, and expect to be with my PSP.

I think you can be happy with just about any choice you make if you go with one of the ones we’ve gone over.

If I’m just looking for something to play CPS1, CPS2, and NeoGeo games, will I be fine with Dingoo? I’m not interested in all the homebrew stuff.

The Dingoo does CPS1 great, and CPS2 and Neo good. There are a few games that don’t have good compatibility (MvC is one), but for the most part all of it runs pretty well.

CPS2 and Neo Geo are alright. They could be better. There are a lot of issues as well. Some games plain don’t work. Some have sound issues.

I’d wait a bit. I’m sure better emulators will come for dingux soon.

Are the lists of working games here pretty accurate?

http://www.dingoo-digital.com/articles/game-guides

Yes, they’re entirely accurate on what works and what doesn’t. But they don’t list what runs fast and what runs slow.

Sorry for all the questions but I’m not looking to play FGs since I hate having 4 face buttons. How does it work for beatem’ups and shootem’ups? Like D&D or Shock Troopers?

Its been a while since my last post in this thread, in that time i came CLOSE to buying a dingoo but saw thats its emulation was just too rough. Plus from what i’ve heard from those who talked with them, the company behind the device has no plans whatsoever to write any more emulators or even update the ones they have. So the fate of the handheld is left purely up to whatever homebrew people can cook up, which sucks.

GP2X is out of the question due to their scareity & being unreasonably expensive. So there just left the PSP. Went seaching for deals on the net, and came across a used fat PSP in good condition for cheap.

Afterwards i went looking around the net for guides, and wow, all that stuff with the Panadora battery + memory stick is bullshit! I didn’t need ANY of that in order to downgrade my PSP to firmware 1.50 and later install custom firmware. Plus a lot of the guides on the net seem either really outdated or just not comprehensive at all, and since noobs like myself are the ones who will be referencing such guides it seems stupid to leave out such important information.

Anyway, long story short i had a hell of a hard time getting my PSP ready for the emulator stuff and nearly Quit, but that was only because i was following crappy guides on the net. Once i found some well-put together ones, then it was EASY. The only special item i EVER needed was an “unpatched” GTA Liberty city stories(or Lumines), in order to downgrade my PSP. Got it on e-bay.

I now have custom firmware 3.52 M33 on the PSP. Also have excellent emulators running for NeoGeo, CPS1/2, Sega Genesis, SNES, and NES going. Great compatibility and the games all run nearly Perfect. They all have savestates and the other features the comp emus do as well. The only thing that is lacking is i’m unable to find a decent working Mame or CPS3 Emu.

Overall, this is the handheld emulation device to have! :wonder:

Something else of note, if you’re only looking to get an PSP for emulation purposes like me then you have zero use for the UMD drive. There are a number of older units for CHEAP on E-bay with non-working UMD drives, but otherwise seem to be in Good shape. I’d recommend checking that out as an option.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but since I am in the market for a Pandora I thought I might as well chime in to add my two cents.

First of all, I am a huge fan of handhelds. Even more than that I am a fan of getting the most out of my systems and trying to apply mods stuff on them.

PSP - modding is great but i feel that the TV out feature being lackluster as well as the fact that Sony tries hard with every firmware update to block custom apps is annoying.

DS - is great with the use of a multi loading cart such as a DSone or an R4. But I feel the emulation scene isn’t that strong as PSP.

Dingoo - Awesome price - nice looking apps so far with Dingux running. Emulation is a hit or miss using either the the linux os or built in one. The size of this bad boy is a plus as well.

Pandora - Price tag is a bit high, but the fact that it expected to run all the emulators that its competition can handle plus has a working OS where you can do simple word processing as well as webrowsing has caught my eye.
The size is comparable to a DS as well, which is nice.
Also the TV out on this thing is great.

And so far the only handheld with TWO analog sticks.

So far the only thing that’s holding me back from picking one up is availability and price.

I’d like a Dingoo but not until the MVS emulation is 100%.

I need my MOTW.

The mame rom “GarouP” runs pretty well on Dingoo. I play it a lot.

Fat PSPs in good shape are fairly inexpensive nowadays, and easy to mod with custom firmware.

A CFW PSP will play nearly perfect:

PSP
PSOne
Capcom CPS 1/2 Arcade
NeoGeo Arcade
Genesis
Sega CD
SNES
NES
Master System
Gameboy
GBA
Gamegear
Turbo Graphix
Wonderswan

Can’t go wrong with PSP emulation, the choice is clear. You’ll be paying just as much if not a tad more for something like a Dingoo, and the rough emulation will be nowhere remotely as good.

Plus the Dingoo, while neat, always kinda struck me as some cheap taiwan-made device that could croak on you one day. Whereas PSP is high-quality brand name tech, and EASY to repair/modify at that. Replacing the LCD screen & casing on my PSP was cheap and easy.

And lets not even bother with the GPX line, blehh…

I ordered a Dingoo a few days ago from thinkgeek.com
I’ll repost here with my own personal feedback once I get it and try it out.
