Just looking to see how much I jumped the gun, here. I’ve already booked my room (actually did the night the venue was confirmed) for the five day block around the event. I’m staying in Octavius Tower at Caesar’s Palace and am interested to see who else will not only be staying there but also if anybody knows how we go about making sure the TVs are set up for gaming, how early I should head down on finals day to reserve seats and the like…pretty much everything.
First Evo and I’m intending to make the most of it.
Side note related to the TVs, the front desk told me they have to send someone from maintenance up to the room but that the TVs should be console-ready. They just didn’t sound too sure on how available the maintenance folks would be. Anybody have experience with this?
You cant reserve seats on finals day, or any day for that matter. You must go early and camp to get a close seat. Last year, on Sunday, I showed up at 10 AM, watched the top 8 for all tournaments, and didn’t get out of my chair until 10 PM that same day. If you are going with friends, it makes it easier, since they might be able to hold a seat for you to go the bathroom or something.
I really want to go to EVO this year but I am a little intimidated to be honest. This would be my first EVO as well and I have no clue how to approach things except booking a room. I will most likely be going by myself so that doesn’t help.
Have also booked a room @ Ceasars. I’m a Kiwi (New Zealander) who is going over to the US for the San Diego Comic Con, and when I saw that Evo lined up… how could I miss it? Won’t be competing (too scrubby) and only there the Sat/Sun but hope to geek out seeing some quality games and hopefully meeting a few new faces.
I booked my room at Imperial Palace. I would be staying at Caesars but the $800 price difference and the fact it’s right across the street were deal breakers.
Hey, if this is your first time to Evo, don’t worry its not that intimidating in general. I went to evo last year for first time, and follow these rules and you will be fine:
If you got plane tickets, make sure you arrive by 2-3pm LV time and leave on the Monday (perferablly) afternoon (that way you can have breakfast before going to airport)
1a) DO NOT pack your stick in the actual luaguage, carry it onboard and put it in your backpack/stickbag, just take it out during airport security and let it go through the xray machine, it will be fine.
pack light, I went there last year from Thursday and leave on Monday, and I pack 4 day sets of clothing, with one spare (incase you got spilled and whatnot), and make sure you ALWAYS have a backpack with you, put a bottle of water and some snacks with you, even if EVO have water provided for people last year, it ran out around 8pm (right when Marvel final start)
dress comfortably, trust me, chances are you might have to sit on the floor a little bit.
@SuperChargedDave: When you say better, you mean by amenitity or location? It really doesn’t matter anyway either way in general, since you won’t be in the room much (dont’ forget, you will most likely at EVO floor most of the day.)
anyone that’s going there, just remember to ahve fun and meet ppl everywhere.
Hey, I’m planning on booking my room now and I’m trying to get the Augustus Deluxe Room. I’m trying to figure out, are they going to charge me right now or when the time actually comes? I’ve never booked a room before, also is there any discounted room for the event? Is there a link or a code?
I stayed in a different hotel last year and it was kind of annoying going back and forth via taxi so I want to stay at Caesars for the event.
I booked my room through the evo.shoryuken.com link. The event rates for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights (199$) are much cheaper than the standard night rate for those nights (~250$), but the event rates for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights (also 199$) are more expensive than the standard night rate for those nights (~160$).
So… I’m probably going to change my reservation based off that fact. It’ll be annoying though if they make me change rooms.
Has anyone tried to ask Caesars to make an adjustment to the rate accordingly so that you get the best possible deal?
anybody book their rooms+flight from the east coast? I’ll be arriving from Massachusetts, and want to know if anyone has a receive a good deal for their flight and room. And when do you plan on departing for EVO?
I’m from ny & I had a good deal on the on the flight which I only pay $221. (staying from the 5th-12th) only problem is that I have go to NJ to get the flight. I book my at Imperial Palace which cost $479, but a couple of my friends are going to be splitting the bill, so its all good.
Is there a special rate for EVO goers when it comes to additional guests? I just noticed when I tried putting 4 people it doesn’t charge additional fees, but there is a disclaimer at the bottom.
Additional GuestRate
Second Guest 0.00
Third Guest 0.00
Fourth Guest 0.00
Fifth Guest 0.00

yadda yadda then at the bottom
ADDITIONAL PERSON CHARGES
Maximum occupancy is four persons per room. There is an additional nightly fee of $30 per person for rooms with more than 2 adult occupants.
Whoops, I thought my thread died and here it is, starting up again. I guess I did make it a BIT early. Anyway, depending on how things go, I may have room for a couple people in my room in Octavius Tower. At present it’s just myself and one friend confirmed for the room and…well, it’s not cheap. PM me for details. If you can guarantee money on the day you arrive (or before) and you seem like a decent person, we’re good. Since it’s my credit card on the room, I don’t want someone who just might smash a window or two, you know?
DanHibiki, I checked with the hotel and they basically told me not to tell them about additional people haha. In short, they WILL charge you the additional money if they know about it and it is the full $30 per person. Just don’t make things too obvious with people all walking in carrying bags. If you want to pack a bunch of people in, have only the first few carry the bags in and the rest can come in later as if just visiting. Honestly though, it’s mad uncomfortable in a hotel room with too many people, no matter how nice the room is.
