Man I thought my defence and punishes were on point until I lost to a head stomp spammer more times than I won. The thing I couldn’t punish was his head stomp at times and mainly when he crossed me up with j.mk then head stomped up close.
Also, when Bison does skull diver after blocked head stomp, is this not punishable? I tried to simulate this in training mode, but it’s just not the same unless you have someone playing against you.
I was using Balrog and I know the easy way to avoid head stomp would be to just dash back or under, or anti-air with cr.fierce but the online lag won’t let me at times!
As for the skull diver … I so rarely use it, I don’t know. Frame data says it’s +10 on block … 22 frames of blockstun. Which seems way too good, but who knows. You can focus the hell out of it.
In my experience it only has +10 or close to it on block if you do it deep as hell. It seems to be one of those moves that loses frame advantage the higher up the block starts.
I just youtubed a few matchups of Rog vs Bison and found skull diver doesn’t have to be blocked and can just be easily stuffed with a cr.Hp.
Although with the original head stomp. Say for example if it was too laggy to dash, focus, block on reaction and bison was spamming it like a sumo slam - are there any sure-fire ways of countering it without having to rely on reaction.
Unfortunately playing on GFWL and I want to rematch this guy because he was acting all high and mighty on a 3/5 bar connection. I was enraged.
To be honest, don’t waste your time developing strats for unplayable connections. Headstomp should be the easiest thing in the world to punish on reaction, and if you can’t even block it because of lag … you’re wasting your time.
I guess I’ll elabortate. Spamming headstomp mindlessly is a good way to get your ass kicked. Headstomp itself isn’t terrible if you use it properly but its situational and often requires good reads
-Using headstomp as a punish, such as an anti-air read or reading when someone is trying to jump out of the corner is legit.
Also timing to punish fire balls works too
-meaty wakeup for chip, ect can work as well.
So using it sparingly and saving it for certain situations is good. Spamming it which is the impression I got from TC doesn’t work against anyone who knows what they are doing offline. Headstomp when used randomly as well as full screen psycho crusher is buffed compared to offline because it’s more difficult to react to.
One thing to be careful about: A good Bison knows how to time their skulldiver so that many anti-airs will either whiff or auto-correct in the wrong direction.
headstomp spamming? lol any bison that thinks they can win with that is retarded. heres how you beat that bulshit.
-stand full screen and jump back/neutral jump rh or fp when u see him flying towards you, you will stuff him i guarantee it.
-if he does it close to you, walk forward immediately, he will whiff and land behind you, and u can do whatever you like to him.
-if he does it meaty on your wakeup, if you have a good dp, time it right when his feet are above ur head, immediately dp him. if you dont have a good dp, just block it, if he comes back in for the purple hands, block that too.
-backdashing and foward dashing works.
-if you knock him down and he does it on wake up, just walk forward. if hes in the corner, and you have a neutral jump attack that hits very low and early, you can neutral jump attack him to stuff him on his way up.
heres what not to do. never ever jump forward. if you’re locked in the corner, and you think hes gonna do it, never ever jump, ever.
heres a video of me fighting a guy that tried to jump up when he was corner locked. you’ll see what i mean.
i can provide video demonstration for you for all of the scenarios above if you like man. but i think you get the picture.
um, trying to AA the skulldiver can be fucked up because occasionally they can go behind you then back in front so make sure you autocorrect your inputs

Some footage, skip to 2:17. the first was a foward dash escape and like literally 5 seconds later he escaped with jump back. Just showing some escapes in action.
will I do that a lot online, head stomp is ass move but make hate mail coming through…
I still can’t deal with jump in x jump in pressure, so can said I am kind of noob, best distance is hard to find, and c.fp can’t punish sht, I rather use st.mp or st.fp for trade.
if they don’t have EX meter I do PC if they don’t know how to cross over…
but, even is an ass move, still in heat of battle sometime people confuse with devil reverse and head stomp…I believe that serve the purpose in one of many bison mind fuk game.
not test yet but I think I caught with one of rufus EX messiah before in mid air with EX skull diver.
and OMG, teleport back is so annoying, i get into one of mirror and this bison just keep teleport back, I can’t chase it, I was eating Ultra when he teleport back…anyone can help?? I mean is just so tire of it and I never see someone play like this before…is this effective??
