AnimeFEST 09 Game Room - Dallas TX- Sept. 4-7 2009

The following is just for announcement puropses and is not intended to announce a tournament. Again, this is to announce and open for discussion the happenings for the AnimeFEST console gaming area for this year.

Date: September 4th through the 7th(Labor Day Weekend)
Area: AnimeFEST Arcade(Map to the area TBA/TBD)
Registration Fees: Admission to the arcade area is free with a con pass($45 for a weekend pass or $30 for a day pass. Admission will be cheaper if you buy them before the con.) You must have a pass or you will be removed from the con!
Tournament Fees: TBA, but mostly free entry.

The Games: This is a pelimenary list of things that I want to run this year. The people in charge of the con will determine witch game will eventually make the cut in the final tournament schedule, so if let’s say Marvel didn’t make the final cut in the schedule, don’t blame me, blame them.

Note: All my tournaments will use the Fort Worth Classic rule set as the official rules. Also the system of choice will be in brackets right beside the game, so practice up on the console of the tournament.

Main Tournament Games:

Street Fighter 4[360]
Super Smash Bros. Brawl [Wii](Note: if you don’t register for my tournament, there will be plenty of Brawl tournaments throughout the weekend including 1v1 and 2v2 tournaments. Just know that I want to run one.)

“Wheel of Fun”(5 games in 1 tournament)

Marvel vs Capcom 2(barring its participation in the Wheel of Fun) [DC?]
Virtua Fighter 5 (barring its participation in the Wheel of Fun) [360]

Wheel of Fun
This year, I am offering a challenging tournament called the Wheel of Fun for anyone daring enough to be out of your element. Five games will be determined out of a random poll that I’ve posted up at the AnimeFEST message boards and be put into a Wheel of Fun. Every match will be a different game, so practice up in every game on this list if you want a shot at winning this tournament.

Procedure:

  1. Your name is called. You are to report to the tournament director’s desk to be assigned your game for the match, drawing the game out of a box.

  2. After being assigned your game, report to the console area where your game is taking place. If the game taking place is the same game that you drew, and there is another match before you, priority is given to the match taking place on the same game.

  3. After your match, report your result to the tournament director as in any other tournament.

Rules:

  1. To be assigned your game, follow the procedure above.

  2. All tournament games in the wheel are ran using the Fort Worth Classic rules. When you think that a rule is broken, report it to the tournament director immediately. If you pause the game, however, you will be given a loss on the current match.

The games vieing for a spot on the wheel:

  • The games in italics means that I don’t have a legal copy of said game that will run on a US PS2. If these games make it into the wheel, this would give me full authority to replace the game with a game that I do have a legal copy of.

Rules for the main games:

Street Fighter 4
Version: PS3/US Xbox 360(depending on what is on hand)
Settings: Timer= 99 sec, 2/3 rounds

Console specific characters are allowed in tournament play.

Seth is allowed in tournament play.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Version: US Nintendo Wii
Settings: 3 stock, 8 min. timer, Items = OFF

Starter stages: Battlefield, Final Destination, Smashville, Yoshi?s Island and Delfino

Banned Stages: 75m, Big Blue, Bridge of Eldin, Flat Zone 2, Hanenbow, Hyrule Temple, Mario Bros., Mushroomy Kingdom, New Pork City, Rumble Falls, Spear Pillar, The Summit and Wario Ware

All stages that are not banned, but not on the starter list are open to counter picks by the losing player.

No player may choose the same stage twice in a given match. There will be no random select. The first stage must be selected via 1221 method.

The 1221 method- The 1221 method is a method to select the opening stage. The method requires two players(or teams if playing doubles).

Procedure
1.Player(or team) 1 will strike one stage from the starter list.
2.Player 2 will strike 2 stages from the list. If playing teams, one member of the team will strike one stage each.
3.Player 1(or the partner of team 1) will strike one stage
4.The stage that remains will be the first stage of the set.

If a game ends with Bowser doing his suicide klaw and it ends in sudden death, the sudden death MUST be played.

Metaknight’s IDC glitch is allowed as a method of recovery. Using this as a method of stalling(see definition) is banned and you will forfeit the match.

Any and all Stalling is banned. If a judge can?t tell if you are stalling, the tournament director will be called. He will be the final authority on the subject. Penalties for stalling may range from losing a stock to forfeiting the match. Judges may observe random matches to determine stalling.

Stalling- The act of deliberately avoiding any and all conflict so that the one would make the game unplayable.

Any action that can prevent the game from finishing(i.e., freezing, disappearing characters, game reset, etc.) will result in a forfeit of that match for the player that initiated the action. You are responsible for knowing your own character, and must be wary about accidentally triggering one of these effects.

Metaknight is allowed in tournament play.

Infinite chain grabs are allowed, however, you must break the chain when your opponent’s damage reaches 290% and never attempt to chain grab during the remaining stock. Failure to break the chain or attempting to grab beyond 290% is considered stalling and you will be down a stock.

Street Fighter 3: Third Strike
Version: US Playstation 2

Gill is not allowed in tournament play.

The In game judgment feature will NOT be used to determine draw games, instead a one round “Sudden Death” game will be played with the same characters and settings.

Console specific characters are allowed in tournament play except Magaki and Shion.

Version: PS3/360(Depending on what is on hand)

Akuma is not allowed in tournament play.

Marvel vs Capcom 2

A player may not use a glitch to prevent the game from being played. This includes glitches that freeze the game, resets the game, player freezing, etc. Using such tactics will result in disqualification.

Deadbody infinites are not allowed to delay the game.

Winning player must select the same characters in the same order. A player may not use the “Switch Glitch” to change the order.

Switch Glitch: The act of pressing any of the assist buttons to change the ?point? character of a player?s team during the loading screen.

All players may NOT use the same character twice on the same team.

Virtua Fighter 5
Version: US Xbox 360

Dural is not allowed in tournament play.

Update 5-31-09

I just got a email from the boss of the gaming area. What he told me is that there were problems with the hotel electric with the arcade area last year and an arcade might not be possible this year. Here is the full text of the email for those interested in what he actually said:

The point being is that there may not even be an arcade this year. If there is not one, my plans are moot and I won’t go to the convention.
