Without the loli Arcana wouldn’t be Arcana. (To be perfectly honest, it’s not even that bad. People just like to overreact and try to be “cool” by bashing the game.) You don’t really need to add ignorant minds into the fold.
Most people simple arent willing to take the time to learn a fighting game. The “meat” of a fighting game is the balance of speed, skill and strategy, its hard to enjoy and appreciate that before you get good at the game. If you dont have people willing to play you it can seem pretty pointless. You can pick up halo 3 and if you’ve played any other fps you can be decent at it and find all the competition you want online. Even if you arent good you can still play through the campaign and enjoy the exposions and the sense of power that comes from clubbing a small animal to death with the butt of your rifle. Beating up computer characters in fighters just doesnt give the same thrill.
I dont think the problem is with the “anime” part so much as it is about likable characters. Who is going to relate to the cross dressing nun with a yoyo or the little girl in a living blob? Factor in how different some characters play (like starting over from scratch), the stigma attached to anime (lolicon, otakus) and the fact 2-d is considered “dead” (or some other bs), it just doesnt seem like a worthwhile investment.
Edit: I think people who feel arcana is about loli are projecting. Except for kira,lies and maybe kohona (hey people can be short) the cast could pass for 18 year olds, everybody in anime looks young. I find DOA to be much more offensive, with blatent sexuality and unrealistic body proportions. That game is a pervert fighter and I would be embarassed to buy one.
