Dude’s in a medically induced coma, they weren’t able to question him due to his injuries. But it kinda seems to be some bullshit like that or he’s just deranged and his mind took him to places. KyoAni also sources a lot of their works from light novel submissions (Free, Chuunibyou, Phantom World and Kyokai no Kanata started off there), so it could even be failed novel submission with some similar ideas that they’ve animated.
A Japanese article says that usually employees use a security card to enter the building, but today a meeting with people from another company was to be held, so the security system was not in place today. That is why the criminal could enter the building. https://mainichi.jp/articles/20190718/k00/00m/040/308000c
According to 5ch, NHK crew was heading to the building to shoot interview.
that is why NHK respond so fast to air the news and shot video of murderer arrested by police.
If you want to support KyoAni directly you can buy their Hi-Res digital artwork from their online shop at about 200yen a piece. Here’s a quick guide to walk you through the japanese website https://twitter.com/gokunobaka/status/1151813889362989056
Almost all of the 20 people dead on the third floor were found laying in the stairwell connecting to the rooftop door. Firefighters were able to open it from the outside w/o key.
That means 44% of their personal were involved in the incident
Studio 1 housed mainly the head staff of the company.
There is no confirmation yet but, we can assume several directors and important members of Kyoani staff might be dead.
Out of the 36 injured, there is 10 that might dead in the next hours or days, if not they might be severely limited, crippled, unable to walk or use their hands (draw) for months or years.
The rest of the staff with minor injuries, might be unable to work for a period of time (weeks, months). And even if they can, they might develop serious PTSD.
That leave only 56% of the staff available, but you can’t discard they may also develop PTSD, or depression for the concecuences of the incident
Materially speaking, they lost a whole building (that was only recently built in 2015), with total loss of key frames, manuscripts, PCs and historical records of previous works.
Most likely a criminal investigation will be done (outside of the arson, which is the main guilty), to determine responsibilities within the Kyoani staff, for the people who were unable to escape the building.
KyoAni stocks are in free fall.
Currently all their proyects might be considerer in hiatus or directly canceled (with the exception of their most advanced ones, like VEG movie which will most likely premieres in the near future) . The studio will likely stop working for at least a couple years with heavy financial loses, that will hopefully be given back with donations and support.
Man. I hope they can return to normalcy, in whatever manner. Feels cheap to say anything honestly. I hope the affected families are able to find peace. I hope the survivors are able continue to have a living.
Ex-Forensic Officer explains arson situation: “a gasoline fire would have been extremely difficult to escape from.”
Key takeaways: unlike normal fires, gasoline fires are very hot and reach those temperatures in a very short period of time. Their flames can also be as high as a few metres. People and anti-fire systems would not have had time to react.
“An explosion can be deduced from the glass shrapnel on the first floor; the state of the second and third floor suggests that an extremely hot flame propagated in a short amount of time. From this I could guess that it was a gasoline flame which spread quickly.”
“In a normal fire, the room temperature won’t rise above 1,000C. But in the case of gasoline, this can go up to 1,500C. This temperature, which is hot enough to melt steel, makes it hard to breathe just by being around the fire. The people on the first floor would have been consumed by the explosion before even having a chance to react; the people on the upper floors probably heard the explosion, but the ensuing confusion would have delayed their response. In that short period of time, both the flame and the smoke would have come up to attack them, and their means of escape would have been lost.”
“Gasoline flames can rise to a few metres in height, and spread very quickly. It is probable that this speed would have been too fast for fire detection systems and fire escape doors to react in time. This would have been a difficult fire to escape.”
“(Moving forward) Entrance management, bag checking, and security should be strengthened.”
I’ve been following this incident so closely for almost 24 hours now, feeling so bummed out all throughout as new information trickles in. I think i’ll take this advice and just take a small step back before i get consumed anything further. As shitty of a event it is, all i can really do is just hope for the best and keep everyones well being in mind and at heart.
No clue whether they’re obliged to help or not. But this shit has the second highest death toll in the country for massacres since WW2. Second only to the the Myojo fire in 2001 with 44 deaths, but they never found the perpetrator for that one though.
Gasoline is very flammable and explosive and is very good at spreading fire. In a situation where the guy has spread gasoline around, the initial fire’s firepower is very high.
With the building construction, there is a spiral staircase in the middle of the room which becomes a funnel where flames rise up straight up to 3rd floor. Meanwhile, the fire from first floor, thanks to gasoline spread once it reaches the window will rise up to the window to second floor, which caught on fire, and spread to 3rd floor. Overall approx only 2-3 minutes were needed for fire to spread to 3rd floor
So people from 2nd and 3rd floor are caught with fire from the spiral staircase (which supposedly be a way out but unfortunately cant) and the window
the bodies count are 20 on 3rd, 11 on 2nd, 2 on 1st. 1st perhaps because as long as there is open window they can jump away. 2nd floor, the bodies are found by the hallway presumably caught by fire from multiple direction as per prior explanation. 3rd floor, because the door to rooftop is locked they are trapped and unable to run away. Carbon monoxide produced from the burning also caught up faster than any human running speed and presumably suffocates them and thus weakened them fast, which contributes to high number of death
Saw the first two Cop Craft episodes out this season so far, shit’s pretty good. Worth looking into. It’s got some Rush Hour type vibes going on, mixed with a bit of MIB type fantasy sprinkled in over a Black Lagoon-esque backdrop.
The OP just oozes style too.
