Alita Battle Angel was Great! I’d give it a 9 out of 10.
And this is coming from someone who saw the Anime years ago and HATED it. I thought it was depressing as hell. The first time i saw Alita in theaters was curiosity due to the strong word of mouth but, i was expecting to hate it. Nope.
The movie was fuggin’ Fantastic! The actress they got to play her was endearing and cute as hell also. Total waifu material.
My copy of Captain Harolock the Classic Collection vol. 2 arrived last week. Vol. 3 dropped a few days ago so I’ll probably pick that up when I get paid.
Started watching The Rising of the Shield Hero. The first episode really reminded me of the stuff going on with Vic Mignogna and Funimation right now. Still, a fantasy series I’m enjoying quite a bit.
Saw Alita Battle Angel for the 3rd time in theaters. Worth it! So fucking good!
And i saw the original anime years ago and HATED it so much. I thought that out of all the animes they could have adapted, they were idiots to greenlight this shit. That James Cameron was out of his damn mind.
Wow. I was 100.00% Proven Wrong. Actually, i’ll say this already ranks up with 2019’s Best movies.
It’s probably more accurate to say they adapted the manga since the anime is just a 2 episode OVA, and the movie covers stuff that isn’t even in it but IS in the manga.
+1 for thinking Alita was super solid. It looked fucking stupid in the commercials and other promotional material they had for it but a lot of people who I talk anime with and a lot of people I follow on twitter who are in the anime community (see work for dubbing companies like Funimation, crunchy roll, etc) all said it was absolutely excellent. So I decided to give it a shot.
I’m not one who generally likes Cyber punk or post apocalyptic anime’s either but the more they showed of iron city, the more they talked about the world in general the more I wanted to know and the more I wanted to see. It also made me want to read the source material. Which is ultimately the goal of a lot of adaptations.
So what Alita set out to do it nailed in spades. Is it the best movie? No. Is it a good movie? Questionable. Though I think it is. Is it a fun and interesting movie? Absolutely. I left the theater wanting more of that world and the people in it.
Edge of Tomorrow was a 10 out of 10 movie! So good and proves Tom Cruise is still awesome. I can’t see them making a sequel though. Things were concluded pretty effectively.
Edit: Also my first exposure to Emily Blunt, who’s great. She should have been Captain Marvel.
I believe they are in talks for a sequel already with Blunt and Cruise posted to return. I agree though given its ending it will be a reach how they continue the plot.
Well damn. Broke a personal record, went and saw Alita Battle Angel a 4th time. Normally, no matter how much i love a movie (Ex: Logan), 3 times is the max.
But Alita was so good! It’s one of those movies that, if an employee popped up to everyone in the theater and was like, “$75…and you can see the next one right now”. I’d have gone take a piss, bought a redbull, came back and paid that $75.
The thing is, there are plenty of great movies out there. Take Edge of Tomarrow for example, that was a 10 out 10 movie. As for as the characters go? I rooted for them sure but, didn’t truly CARE about them. Alita is a character i CARED about and FELT for her plight. And the pumped up way the movie ends with the sword like that, I always feel a little blue-balled when the credits pop up. I want to see what happens next so bad, to see more of that world, more of Alita and her revenge, etc.
A damn shame this movie isn’t getting more love at the Box office. When you know that shallow, assembly line garbage, like Captain Marvel, is going to make at LEAST 600 million no matter what. Not cool.
Bought edge of tomorrow on iTunes after I saw all the glowing recommendations of it. It was only $11.99 so I figured what the hell. It’s too late to watch it tonight but I’ll definitely make time for it within the next few days
I don’t think Edge is a 10/10 but it definitely is great. It feels like a western take the same ideas from the book, which was inspired by the author’s experience playing video games as a kid. Even how it, the movie version, focuses more on memorization to overcome the challenge efficiently and trying to optimize what you could call “rng” essentially, vs practicing the skill itself to overcome regardless of what situation comes.
Super late but finally caught up on MSG-The Origin. Man Char had a screwed up upbringing and rise to be the Bad Ass he is in MSG. In a Gundam type mood now thanks to it and now re watching 8th MS team. Might need to cop the OG MSG series and others on Blu-ray.
