I know im not a regular here but can I get a suggestion on an anime similar to Berserk or Claymore? Even if it deviates from those themes a bit… I just need something good.
So what the fuck just happened? I feel an anti-climatic end to this already dragged out arc. Akamatsu better be bringing out a 50 page colored chapter to explain all these loose ends.
On Penguins (oh shit, I’m like a day late)
Apple girl’s really getting an added depth of tragedy now to keep her from being utterly, universally unlikable. I just hope more of this develops before they inevitably pair her off with Shoma so I won’t vomit as much. There are really strokes of genius in this series outside of the artwork, and it’s progressing to be darker. Like an FLCL dark, uncanny with a deceptive surface of colors. There are hints of the director having a clear direction, and hints at it unraveling to be a steaming pile of shit. Because it’s anime, I’ll assume the latter until proven otherwise. Please let me be wrong.
I haven’t. Probably because it was a shoujo, and I usually am not well read on those…though if anything the 90s had decent shoujos.
Utena had a different author, so I meant more direction as a writer. I’m not sure but think mawaru penguin drum is the first story he wrote to be broadcasted. There aren’t many original anime today so it’s hard to say.
Well, it is pretty much different from the normal shoujo series…actually, it’s pretty dark. And he pretty much ran the shots when it came to adapting the anime; and it was a group that involved him which started both.
And yeah, Penguindrum is an original work and is co-written with someone else (who is pretty new at it).
the Utena anime is more of a re-telling than a straight adaptation of the manga. From what I know it’s also only shoujo in the marketing sense, not in the stereotypical way.
Also, I just found out something really interesting. The original Utena manga is credited to “Be-Papas”(Story) and Chiho Saito(Story&Art). This Be-Papas is a group of 5 people (including Saito) that CREATED the Utena manga. Considering this that leads me to believe the anime was actually the original project.
Either way, even if the anime isn’t the original, it does mean that the director actually helps create not just the Utena anime, but also the manga itself.
bout to start summer wars and then The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, seems like its a madhouse kinda of day. got any suggestions for me after i finish these two films?
