1st episode of the 2nd season begins with the beach! Fortunately, Akira has been tagging along and she has not shown Yoshii any sort of mercy. Speaking of Yoshii and his best buddy Yuji, this episode proves further that they neither can show concern to their love interests being harassed or being able to hit on girls, especially during the end where Mitsurini and Shouko caught them by disguise.
Natsume Yuujinchou San #1

A simple introduction to the premise of the series for newcomers who haven’t watched the 1st two seasons and provides a new story with a fallen god with the appearance of an old woman who meets up with Natsume and asks for his aid. Turns out she was too aided by Reiko whom gave her a mirror to ward off an evil spirit that was inhibited in a tree. [/details]
Mawaru Penguindrum, easily. You’ll have to see it yourself to judge, but the 1st episode promises penguins, symbolism, magical transformations, incest and even more penguins.
Usagi Drop was pretty good. And I would be very surprised if Alter isn’t at least following the Idolmaster anime.
I just gotta vent this out about shitty Subbing groups
Just got done marathoning Stein’s gate and I can say I am fucking SICK of horriblesubs.
It’s not just horrible subs, I’ve noticed this habit by a lot of different subbing groups too, that they’re not just completely disregarding the japanese that’s being said, but imposing their own shitty humor in the translation. A lot of this is evident in Stein’s gate when they kept spouting tired american memes (that doesn’t even have anything to do with the dialogue) to replace net speak in Japan. Example: characters saying fail fail fail. and that one quote where they used a whole Xzibit meme quote when Christina was just briefly recalling something with a slight inference at knowing net talk. That’s not even getting to all of it.
Prime example of this from a different anime: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKo-54rdHUY
The famous “screw english” scene in K-ON where Ritsu actually says: 必要ない!hitsuyou-nai (not necessary), and nothing close to screw English. But people who are not familiar with japanese take this to heart and think it’s the actual intention of the show.
Another scene in the subbed version of toradora had taiga saying
いーやーだ!which is just a straight up no, and the subbers translated it to, no FUCKING way. It’s subtle, but vulgarity doesn’t work the same way in both cultures, and no one in any anime or drama meant for daytime TV would say anything close to that.
Some of you might say, I have no intention of speaking or learning japanese, so it doesn’t matter. But seriously, doesn’t it annoy you that sub groups are taking original source materials and imposing their own shitty humor in it that has nothing to do whatsoever with their japanese origin? I feel like American Anime watchers don’t even give a shit about the culture that their anime is coming from, but is more concerned about the microculture they’ve made about what they “THINK” Japanese culture is like, and shitty mistranslations like this does not help.
I’m actually interested in at least picking up the basics of japanese since I’ve gotten to the point where I recognize words and phrases. So, yeah, it annoys me that some subbers are just fucking around like that. At the same time, I don’t care because I can always avoid using those groups (which I will) and they’re doing it for free in their spare time.
Called me old fashioned, but just sayin, I don’t think people should do a shitty job, just because it’s free. I’d rather have them not waste their time at all. None of my complaints are about it being free or not, so i don’t know why people are caught up on that part.
When I watch “subs” I expect “subs”, not abridged. I enjoy abridged too! but I don’t enjoyed being lied to in the face and being treated like an idiot:[. Again, call me old fashioned.
Is there anything I should be watching outside of Baka Test 2 this season? I have been watching Ao No Exorcist, which has hit a fanservice wave seemingly. I never noticed under that dress that Shiemi’s boobs were that big :o
Yeah, it’s even worse when people who are being paid to do this for DVDs and games do it as well. Glares at NISA (on the game front anyway, still waiting on my copy of katanagatari to see if they fuck with anime scripts as well, see one mention of prinnies/disgea in general or crab brains/other stupid injokes there and I will rage)
lol I know what you mean, NISA and a few others always do that. I feel like a lot of times it’s worse when they get paid to do it. Because the paid companies are always ran by corporate-out of touch adults (who don’t necessarily play or watch these things) trying to translate things into what they think it’s “hip” to kids in america. I mean man, we’re not asking for much, just give it to us straight up from the source.
Because it’s better than nothing, and if you disagree you could just wait for it to get released by someone else and/or do it yourself? AKA nobody owes you shit?
Whilst I agree with this, Horriblesubs is not to blame in this case because they JUST rip shit from Crunchyroll. They do literally no translation work, it is entirely Crunchyroll’s fault. lol
To further Warp’s point, it’s one thing when they there’s bad translations or “Our classroom is pretty baller.” type rewrites in the games or the DVD/BDs cause you payed for them. But its an adjacent matter when its fansubs of anime or games that isn’t available anywhere outside Japan yet. In the end you’re at their mercy, just find the ones that do a better job, learn Japanese and watch raws, (Like I’m trying to do) or just dont watch the show. We’ve all been through this crap before. Its annoying cause it can take you out of the current scene but there isn’t much that can be done about it. Just be happy that it doesn’t always happen that often.
To add onto that, Crunchyroll themselves don’t sub the episodes - a random sub group is assigned to do the subs for them (e.g for Hayate’s 2nd season, Static Subs and Eclipse subbed that series). That’s how we get random 4chan memes in Steins;Gate in a few episodes.
But yeah, I haven’t been bothering with sub liberities much.
