Anime & Manga Thread v.4 FAQ/IRC: See OP. Thread over. Move onto v.5

I haven’t bothered to watch any of the new season. Been slowly working my way through Katawa Shoujo. Except Nisemonogatari of course.

Gonna cop TWOGK blueray as they come out this month.

Like a vacuum cleaner spontaneously throwing fits.

Gintama 241

Spoiler

Kyoshiro the male host club owner returns with the threat of having his club shut down thanks to a certain and influential madame. Of course, this prompts Gintoki and his two sidekicks into helping out and the return of “JUST DO IT”

Of course, considering how all the other hosts left due to fear from the aforementioned madam, they need a few more people to help. In comes Otae (despite being a hostess in her own club), Hasegawa in an outfit of junk and the stalker Kondo, referring to himself as a “Hostalker” but instead gets to be a “Hostcar”.

More comedy ensues as the new hosts try to get a customer to see their capabilites. Didn’t go well for everyone else, but it almost did for Gintoki, until he went on riding his hostcar.

Eventually the Shinsengumi duo of Okita and Hijikata come into play as well and they get to be hosts. But then we get this slightly awesome reference when the club opens.

And also, Okita tells his thoughts on how to be a good host.

Didn’t help that Otae called up the drag queen host club as customers to “help” their former rival. Alas, next week’s preview will show even more chaos and finally the appearance of the madam.

Daily Lives of Highschool Boys is essentially a reverse gender Nichijou (hell, even it’s JP title has the word in it) who do even more stupid things. And is mostly funny. Well, for now that is.

I like how Natsume S4 started with an arc this time compared to the past seasons.

Natsume S4 1/2

Spoiler

Especially with Motoba being the antagonist again.

As strongly as anime makes me vomit (let’s face it: it’s usually bad), when it’s good, it usually is REALLY good. I just finished watching The Tatami Galaxy, and ended up with a folder with 350+ screenshots, following that while the writing, voice and general direction is of decent quality, the art direction is in a tier of it’s own; I had never seen something like that before.

The show itself is extremely … “closed”, as in that everything refers to something else or represents something and is relevant to the show as a whole, and the art is no exception. The vibrant colors, the congruent styles … well I lack knowledge on art and drawing so I’ll try to pick a screenshot from that folder:

wow, first episode of amagami SS+ was pretty good, this season overall seems so bad, thank god these sequels are around to keep things interesting.

High School Boys Nichijou is pretty funny. Looking forward to the next ep

Gintama 241[details=Spoiler]Lol at the sengoku basara reference. Episode was full of win. They also used my favorite song from the OST(hard boiled theme) in the ep so it’s insta good. I really like the new OP and ED as well. [/details]

Huh, how do Seitokai Yakuindomo, K-on and Madoka appeal to fujoshi?

They all have like 1 named guy (does K-on even have that?), and I thought you would need at least 2 for any of the gay subtext to be happening.

Hahahaha, I do agree that most anime have gone down the drain these days. And you’re right about how the market is catering more to fujoshi. Unfortunately, some people don’t like that idea much even though it’s been apparent for quite a while now.

What’s interesting is some of the fujoshi don’t want things to completely pander to them. They want things to “just happen”. Though it seems like anime/manga companies act a little blatant when it comes to putting elements that cater to them. And yes, Japan is one messed country sometimes with their values.

I can tell you that 33% of fans that like K-On are females. Whether they are fujoshi or not is a whole other story. And yeah, how does Madoka appeal to them? Unless it goes back to what I think about their tendencies of preferring good stories above all else.

I need to catch that soon, Kamui-san. I read that arc in the manga and I was laughing at the TOSHI jokes.

I don’t think K-ON is meant to appeal to fujoshis, I think some fujoshis just happen to like something moe like K-ON. Girls like moe shit too. You can find a ton of shitty fanart on dA as proof of this.

These days? You act like there’s some sudden, inexplicable drop in quality or something.

This. People getting old and not finding anime catered to them anymore doesn’t necessarily mean that anime is becoming bad.

Just tried that Highschool Boys blah blah Everyday Lives…while I understand the humour, it’s not really my cup of tea. Still like Nichijou’s a lot more… or maybe it’s because of the dramatic voice acting (shouting and unusual voice pitches) and lasers.

I’m the oppisitem couldn’t stand Nichijou but I’m lovin Highschool Boys.

Well now we know where this friendship ends.

LOL I KID.

Ahhh, I should have said SOME anime, not most. Forgive me. What the hell was I saying? Ugh.

You’re right, though I know some people are annoyed at some of today’s anime.

I don’t think the potentials any different from where it’s ever been either. How exactly is the potential different?

You’re right. It’s not any different. I just messed up my thoughts. Sorry.

We have this conversation every few months. Pretty much it always comes down to this: anime has always sucked, but there is a lot more anime these days. The ratio of good to bad anime is about the same.

Anime isn’t suddenly becoming bad. Anime’s always been 98% garbage with 2% worthwhile gems and even fewer really awesome super-gems in those gem piles.

This has been true since the 70s, when Gatchaman was awesome and like almost everything else, including the original Gundam, was shit.

EDIT - I made this post before reading Spirit Juice’s directly above it. Sowwy.
