Anime magazines or sites

What are good magazines or sites that have good info and well updated with new things. I keep getting in slumps where i finish a series and it takes forever to find a new one to watch or get into. Usually i just end up d/l stuff thats just awful.

i miss mixxzine.

Newtype USA is good but its a little pricey. You save some money on a yearly subscription though. They tell you what’s playing in Japan right now, episode descriptions of those shows and they even include a DVD of anime you can check out, it will really help you out deciding what to watch next.

Haven’t looked at Animerica or Protoculture Addicts (that used to come out quaterly) in years but if they are still around those are pretty good and much more affordable. If they are still around, not sure.

Play Magazine has a decent anime section even though they seem to like every anime that was ever made lol! But the reviews will tell you what everything is about, it’s largely about what’s available in English though.

Stay FAR away from Wizard’s anime magazine, I think they call it Anime Insider. That’s gotta be the worst anime magazine I ever had the displeasure of coming across. Casting Calls for imaginary Hollywood movies of anime and bad character match ups, it’s like Wizard minus the useful interviews Wizard has sometimes.

Newtype is very very pretty, and sometimes has some DVD goodies.

However, like what sano said, it’s expensive.

I buy it like…once every 2 years, lol

Yeah Protoculture Addicts is still around.

Ha ha look it’s Chun-Li is on the cover of one of the ebooks! I have that issue too! :lovin:

Checking around for Animerica…

I think most publications and sites aren’t up to par. For licensed information, Anime on DVD is probably the only decent one I can think of. If you need information for Japan stuff, animesuki forums.

I used to love Protoculture Addicts. I think that was actually my first exposure to something from Canada, back in like '95 or '96. You know, when Teknoman and Ronin Warriors were on, and I needed to learn more. Back then, I didn’t have the internet, but I had Protoculture Addicts. I think I still even have an issue or two of Mecha Press (PA’s sister mag) from back in the day.

Funny thing but I asked a girl at work who likes anime and she mentioned Anime on DVD too, but she said the only thing is that the site is so huge it may be a bit intimidating, and she used to have links to a bunch of other sites but can’t find them right now lol!

Yea I agree with Newtype, still got some old issues hanging around, but damn their prices just kept going up and up untill I just thought screw that, its almost like buying a book every month.

Yea you got a DVD and one eps of new show etc but still that price was too much.

I stopped getting magazines once I started using the net more.

NEO is a good magazine that fully covers all aspects of asian media anime, movies, music, manga etc, accept thats UK only.

A good site I found a couple years back was http://www.animenfo.com

You can make searches for the type of anime you’re after like mecha or love story etc.

http://www.anime-planet.com is all about recommending series that you might like if you like another. Try putting a couple animes you liked in the search.

http://www.anidb.net has a good rating system cause a lot of people rate there instead of it being like 1 reviewer who happens not to share your tastes.

If it turns out you have the same taste, I might recommend some to you as well.

I wouldn’t really recommend magazines… since the anime community isn’t exactly booming in America, much like the arcade scene, they have to get by sometimes with reviews that you can tell have been paid for. Newtype is a really nice magazine that comes with DVDs and stuff… I wouldn’t subscribe though, personally… I’d rather spend the money on games.

Animerica is free now at Waldenbooks and Borders lol!

I am really cheap, and used to just go to Barnes & Nobles, grab game/anime magazines, sit down and read them.
