A ginger-haired mammoth baby found in Siberia could have been snatched by hungry human hunters from the jaws of a lion 10,000 years ago.
The body of the beast - the first ever found with its distinctive ‘strawberry blonde’ hair - has been described as being of ‘huge’ significance.
It’s could be evidence that ancient humans attacked and fed on mammoths in Siberia, with the body of ‘Yuka’ showing wounds consistent with an attack by lions AND people.
The discovery is shown as part of a BBC documentary, Mammoth
They may not look like their mum - or sound like her - but that doesn’t seem to bother these fluffy little birds.
Hilda the hen has hatched a clutch of ducklings after accidentally sitting on the wrong nest of eggs.
The broody Bantam hen nested over the five eggs for a month, apparently unaware that they had been laid by a duck.
Phillip, 45, who runs the Farmer Palmer’s children’s activity farm said: ‘Hilda doesn’t seem bothered at all - the ducklings follow her around just as chicks would’
more nature than animal related but i’ll post it anyway. Natural phenomenon turns sea water an electric neon blue as it washes up on beach
It may look like an alien life-form has washed up on a beach, but this striking neon blue effect is a completely natural phenomenon.
The incredible image was taken by photographer Doug Perrine during a visit to Vaadhoo, one of the Raa Atoll islands in the Maldives.
It captures a natural chemical reaction called bioluminescence, which occurs when a micro-organism in the water is disturbed by oxygen.

Is this the most bizarre art project ever? Taxidermy class teaches students how to stuff dead mice and pose them up ‘as if they were humans’
Rocker mouse: The four-hour class is for people to learn the art of anthropomorphic taxidermy - the practice of mounting and displaying taxidermied animals as if they were humans
Vets and animal welfare officers were today forced to euthanise a further nine pit bulls rescued from a dogfighting ring in the Philippines.
The decision was taken because there are no facilities to rehabilitate the animals and prevent them from again being used in underground arenas.
The plan is to put down dozens of the roughly 300 dogs rescued in separate raids on Friday in Laguna province south of Manila, said Anna Cabrera of the Philippine Animal Welfare Society.
Seventeen dogs were put to sleep on Saturday, a day after the raids.
Abused: Some of the dogs are in such bad shape they are unable to stand
Take a bow-wow Milly the chihuahua: Micro mutt that fits in the palm of a hand and weighs less than a banana is set to be crowned the World’s smallest dog
She may be tiny, but Milly the Puerto Rican chihuahua is on the verge of something big - being officially recognised as the most petite pooch on the planet.
The current record holder is Boo Boo, another chihuahua from the U.S state of Kentucky, but Milly, who lives with her Argentine owners in the north east Puerto Rican town of Vega Alta, hopes to punch above her 170g weight to earn her place in the Guinness Book of Records.
After she was born three months ago the family believed that Milly would grow, but having maintained the same height of just 6.53cm for three weeks they began to think that the pedigree pup might be able to knock Boo Boo from the top dog spot that she has held since February 2008.
Record holder: When she was first born Milly received milk from an eyedropper because her mouth was so tiny. The animal is constantly accompanied by her carer or by her owner, Argentinian Vanessa Semler, who is dedicated to rearing chihuahuas in Puerto Rico.
That dog looks fucked up. If people want animals this small why not just get a pet rat instead?
Chin up! Newly discovered ‘horned dinosaurs’ from 83 million years ago looked more like parrots than lizards
Two new members of the horned dinosaur family have been discovered in Canada.
However the name may be a bit of a misnomer, as they lack the distinctive large horns and frills which make up your classic image of a horned dinosaur, such as their older and more familiar brother, Triceratops.
But to make up for it these plant-eating dinosaurs, which are members of the ‘leptoceratopsid’ family and lived between 75 to 83 million years ago, have rather dashing jaw-lines.
Indeed, as scientists debate the biological relationship between dinosaurs and birds, there is something distinctly parrot-like about the ‘beaks’ of the newly-discovered herbivores.
Meet the dinosaurs: The two new species, Unescoceratops Koppelhusae (upper right) and Gryphoceratops Morrisonii (lower left), roamed the temperate climate of Canada around 80million years ago
Deep jaw: Gryphoceratops Morrisoni
Big brother: The two new discoveries are a distant relative to Triceratops, who was brought back to life for the 1993 Steven Spielberg film Jurassic Park
These stunning images were captured by a lava-loving photographer who risks life and limb getting up close and personal with the world’s most active volcano.
Melted shoes and tripod aside, Miles Morgan has so far avoided serious injury as he chases the molten flows of the Kilauea volcano on Hawaii’s Big Island.
At times, he gets to within a foot of the lava which had been in the bowels of the fiery mountain just moments before.
The strangest zoo in Britain? See a zedonk, a zorse and a zonkey as cross-bred horses go on show
When it comes to crazy cross-breeds, these curious creatures really earn their stripes.
The tongue-twisting trio – a zorse, a zonkey and a zedonk – simply can’t hide the fact they all have a zebra for a parent.
Zulu is the UK’s first zorse, with a zebra father and a horse mother.
As if he is not confusing enough, he can be found grazing at a donkey sanctuary in Shropshire with Zambi the zonkey – who has a zebra mother and donkey father.
