Since Valentine’s Day is on it’s way, and I do enjoy competitions, I’ve decided to throw an Art Competition.
The prize to first place will be 6 months of premium on me, as well as the Street Fighter Tribute art book. A second and third place will be announced, and the prize to them will be one month of premium.
The official outline of the competition is as follows:
Angrynord’s Valentine’s Day Art Competition Official Rules
The subject of the piece must be one of the women of the Street Fighter fighter series. No more than two subjects may be in any piece.
The Theme of the piece must be Valentine’s Day.
The piece must not be small. Make it at least around full page (8.5" x 11"). You don’t have to use those dimensions, but you get the point.
THE PIECE MUST BE ORIGINAL. I cannot stress this enough.
The piece may be in color or in black and white. However, if you choose to do the piece in black and white, make sure it looks as though it is supposed to be in black and white. Don’t submit a piece in black and white that looks like you forgot to add color.
You may use either a real world medium or Photoshop. However, if you choose to use photoshop, do not use excess amounts of filters that makes the piece look unnatural. Let me put it this way: If it can’t be done on paper, don’t do it. This is an art competition, not a competition for 1337 photoshop skillz.
You may make multiple submissions. If you make multiple submissions, each submission must have a different subject. No, you may not keep everything the same and use a new character. You must create a new piece with a new character.
All pieces must be submitted to this thread. This is to aid in enforcing rule #4. If any of you notice that a piece is plagiarized, please notify me.
The deadline for submission will be FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 13, AT NOON EST. I don’t care what your excuse for not submitting on time is, the piece won’t be accepted. Also, I don’t care what time zone you’re in. The deadline is noon EST. Winners will be announced at noon on Valentine’s Day. Premium subscriptions will be awarded on Valentine’s Day. The art book will be awarded by the end of the month.
Failure to follow any of these rules will result in the disqualification of your submission. Should you break rule #4, YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM THE ENTIRE COMPETITION.
Rule #6 is subject to change, following the results of the poll. The rule will change on January the 10th, should the poll results be contrary to the rule.
If I disqualify your piece, you will be notified so you can make adjustments and resubmit.
So those are the rules. Happy drawing ladies and gentlemen, and the best of luck to you all. Should you have any questions, send me a PM.
The theme is just Valentine’s day, featuring one of the women of Street Fighter. That definitely makes it SF related. If you want it to be “more” SF related (not sure how you would do that), go ahead. If you have something in mind but are unsure if it fits before you start, PM me the idea and I will tell if it’s ok or not.
In regards to your mention of disqualifying entries, can entries be disqualified based purely on lack of relative quality? I’ve seen some of the art of other posters here and I’m positive their artwork will completely overshadow anything an amateur like me would have to offer. Probably to the point of humiliation.
Really, if I join this competition I won’t be expecting to win any prizes. Just doing it for fun.
All rights will be retained by the original artist. For your protection, I suggest that all of you put your signature on the work. However, please don’t put a fatty watermark on it. It detracts from the piece.
I will not be reproducing these works for any purpose, with the sole exception that I might print out and frame one of them. However, I guarantee you that your work will not leave my hands. I would rather destroy it then betray an artist’s confidence.
As for the second part of your question (having answered the first and third parts), what do you mean by that? Could you rephrase?
You answered everything, basically, ties to the fact your printing it, which is fine. IE your judging it if it were an art gallery expo, then return the artworks etc. If I have a bit of spare time, Ill see what I can do
Yes the contest is open internationally. However, you must allow for more time for your prize to arrive, should you win. Sorry guys, but sending packages priority internationally is serious $$$.
Here is my entry. I worked really hard on it and didn’t have time to really cel-shaded it but I figured I would show you it anyway along with the line-art. I made Chun Li in an original Valentine’s Day outfit. Juts figured it would be fun to mess with and stay with the theme of the contest. I hope you like them. (EDIT: Now fully colored)
