I don’t think the menus are that bad, though I find the mesh overlay they put on the character models to be annoying.
Things i found ridiculous MVC3 was the absence of a Spectator mode, absence of replays, absence of modes like survival and score attack and being able to play against the cpu without going to training mode and fiddling with the options.
This game has online lobbies but fails to have spectator mode. Just wtf. Who the hell wants to look at healthbars and two cards humpin each other while waiting for their turn?
No replays? Really? Was it that hard to implement? I mean even Brawl had replays!
Arcade and challange are the only offline modes? Come on it is so easy to implement this stuff. Add a simple survival mode so i dont have to stop playing every time i beat galactus.
And why the hell do i have to go to training mode to have a simple cpu match? Can’t i just have a match with the cpu like sf4 without going in training mode? I mean sure the cpu in training mode is handy, but sometimes i want to play one simple fast cpu match.
Btw the gallery is ridiculous. Art from the stages are just ingame screenshots, character art is just the ending + the pictures on the marvel site. Where’s the concept drawing? Where’s the sketches?
Don’t get me wrong I love this game, it’s a great fighter and it will entertain me for years but basically there some stuff missing that is screaming incomplete game.
EDIT* The word i was looking for here is barebones, it pretty much makes me expect that there is a huge patch coming or there will be a Super Marvel vs Capcom 3
The game itself is complete, all the fluff, frills, garnish and extra stuff that we were expecting and in some cases told about is subpar or nonexistant.
This was a wake up to show how much we take for granted and expect to receive. This truly is the bones of what can be a great game if they are able to patch stuff in.
the 1 major thing that screams incomplete to me is the character roster. i would of liked to see at least 5-10 more characters.
scrolling around the character select screen is like going into the kitchen and looking in the fridge, then looking in the cabinets, then back to the fridge etc etc. you know theres no food, but theres that silly chance you might find something. (then you wined up eating mustard on bread)
TO be honest i felt like this too but then i tried every single character out.
The roster is something they got right. Ignoring the “QQ my favorite character isn’t in, why is ____ in instead?”, the variety is nuts and every character is threatening (at the moment).
I don’t know man. A plain purple gradient background, a cropped image of ironman and morrigan from the trailer, and a couple of boarders. I’d love to know how long that took, I sure as hell bet it didn’t take as long as the 3D stage they’re covering with it which we pretty much never see. Outstanding work (as much as it doesn’t really matter)…
it isnt an issue of which characters they add, its just adding them. 38 characters in a marvel game? c’mon now.
I’m a true believer in quality over quantity.
Ummm SSF4 match making is way above MVC3 match making as of right now.
The training mode fight request is only even good right now because raw match making off the Online mode is UNuseable majority of the time. lol
assuming quantity always means bad quality.
Aren’t you assuming it doesn’t?
actually, i wasnt. i pointed out what YOU were doing. there is a difference, read more than once if it helps you to find the distinction.
one you know all to well. good try to lump me under your own falsehoods though.
asshat.
a debate? oh goodness me. no this isnt a debate, this is school for the idiotic, enrollment: YOU.
“for the most part” is weak talk, you can do better. if you are going to try to argue points with me, come with your best stuff. not that you can actually handle an argument as dumb as the one that you have decided to champion.
i’d be happy in your comfort of knowing that capable hands are being used, were you not so stupid. however its apparent that your lack of knowledge is hindering your decision making… so i take no solace in your support.
one does not talk on the level of those with substandard views.
demand utter perfection? who me? i only demand that perfection is an aim. not that it is achieved. its obvious that mvc3 was put out before its time and therefore perfection was not the aim, mediocrity was. you can live with mediocrity i suppose. i can as well. but in this instance i dont want to so i will make my voice heard.
fuck this half assed shit that they gave us.
im an expert on the quality of online fighting games ive played over the last 10 years, yes.
and most people would agree that the only fighting games with good netcode that have been released or are availble to play are HDR,BB, and ggpo which all have some sort of rollback code, not input delay based code. it only takes a couple of games to tell the difference. i suggest you play them if you havent. if you have and you dont agree then you are just sticking your head in the sand and saying that you can breathe fine.
i dont believe you and neither does anyone else. go to the mvc3 netcode thread to see how the majority of people feel.
was this your “coup de grace”?
pardon me while i laugh…
do you realize that you called a console game arcade perfect? … do you realize how stupid that statement is?
me: halo is an arcade perfect game.
everyone else:
pardon me if i actually thought you were at least a bit more intelligent than that last paragraph suggested, i wont make the same mistake again.
oh and, even sf4 wasnt arcade perfect, port or not. but yeah, i’m TOTALLY nitpicking there.
one doesnt wear there tuxedo into the pigpen.
or bring a knife to a gunfight.
and yes im aware that i used “there” wrong.
what about making $4.35 makes me a gangsta? gangstas dont have jobs, try to keep up.
idiot.
up to 4 now.
calling an idiot an idiot isnt childish, its polite. calling you a retard would be childish. also calling a put down childish, is childishness in itself. all put downs are childish. in our case though, i am not putting you down. i am simply stating the truth. there is a difference, refer to my first point in this post for further comprehension.
i am not arguing that. but once again you change the subject. my original subject was that tv’s have gotten bigger and less expensive while having gotten better ( bigger is better in this example) i doubt many would agree with you that crt’s are better overall, though yes i will give it to you that there will be some dumbasses out there that truly believe that to be false. but there is no accounting for the idiocy of the masses, especially when its not the masses that are idiots, but instead just the vocal minority ( hint: you are the vocal minority)
you compared video games in '92 to video games of today… i just did the same with tv’s.
try not to get mad at your own tactic. it really starts to show the stupidity in your arguments if not even you support them.
ah, spirited it was. though only drivel in your mind cause its driving a wedge of intelligence into your pointless meanderings.
mine as well. atleast we agree on something.
though its probably the stupidest thing we could agree on.
your reaching a bit, grasping at straws. next time just tell me that i’m dumb, it will give more credence to your argument than overextending your own ideas, of which you dont even seem to comprehend.
forensics AND debate! oh shit. im in over my head, against the guy that makes it his business to argue pointless topics just to win…
lby this admission you already lose because once said it becomes obvious that you argue not for the subject matter in itself, but for the pleasure in trying to “win”. i have no time for persons such as yourself. you are in need of education, but will not drink of the water that you are pulled to. you are a waste of time.

I love how two gods, a man with a bionic arm, five of the most recognizable Marvel superheros ever, the three most recognizable Street Fighter characters ever, a huge fucking robot, a floating head, a guy with his head on fire, one midget in a suit of armor and another in a cartoony red costume, a chinese zombie, a well endowed vampire chick, a kitten-woman, a tall green woman, a hot chick version of Wolverine, and goblin looking dude with Mr. Fantastic esque ability, a badass semi-demon with unmatched style, a dude that distributes supreme justice with a lead pipe, and whatever other nonsense I can’t recall right now is considered an incomplete roster.
How wonderful.
I’m not sure how “38 characters in a marvel game? c’mon now” was even suppose to support his larger roster statement. It has more characters than every Marvel game but MvC2 with more being added.
I’ll be honest and say I didn’t even read through your rant. Figured I would scroll down to see what brilliant epiphany you had at the end.
Yet here you are still banging your head against the keyboard furiously typing out your Charlie Sheen like rant detailing just how awesome you are.
So as much as I enjoy reading your mental menstruation, I think I’ve had my fill. Thanks for the memories.
BTW: Since you’re such a “bigtymer” in the tournament scene, why don’t you back your words with a match in MvC3?
Did I miss something or did he not actually talk about the gameplay at all? He kind of just said the game looked pretty then went into bitch mode. Mind you some of his complaints are valid but I feel that it’s a pretty poor game review if you don’t even talk about the gameplay. I find it sad that some people’s purchasing decision will be affected by a review like this.
He didn’t talk about the game play because he doesn’t know anything about it. He made a simple blanket statement about the game play and moved on. It’s easy to sound like you know what you’re talking about.
He praised the gameplay for a minute but pointed out how it felt rush and very bare along with the online not working, spec mode, mission mode stuff being counter intuitive, no proper tutorial when they want new players to try it and the expected complaints of endings, no story, and roster selection for the rest of the video.
Why does any other game but it’s prequel matter?
