American Government Thread 2: RIP John McCain, 81

Can I take $100,000 from you and give you $1000 back? Cuz that seems tight to me.

You want raises, motherfucker. People are getting breadcrumbs as we set up our economy to be extra fucked in the next ten years.

Rich get richer, I guess.

Who is taking $100000 from their employees?

Since its cold as hell outside, and most of the country is getting hit with an arctic blast…I decided to go with

Clutch polar bear face-palm for today’s “this ignorant motherfucker in the White House!” moment…

Me, if you’ll let me.

It’s in context of the $1000 breadcrumbs that were being referred to within the context of the Trump tax plan. If you need to read up on where that $1000 comes from, feel free to do so.

I mean if you look at poor rural areas of america you’d call it a shithole too

Trump is a racist scumbag, and you know the drill

“Walkback statement”

“Fully support his shithead opinion”

This is who the rich wanted in power. This is who conservatives fought for.

They need to expedite that mueller interview to get trump to incriminate himself

The difficulty in Trump incriminating himself is by the fact that he knows words. He has the best words . . . . .

Every day it gets harder to think that those in his camp can’t for once say “you know, that was stupid”. Not one politician is perfect, and given the track record, he isn’t either.

Also Walmart also raised their starting pay to $11 per hour. So this low to middle class employees of walmart are A ) getting a raise B ) getting a bonus for $1,000, and C ) for the next few years at least also have an increased tax return.

Though since you are left leaning you do want to take $100,000 in taxes from some rich person and then give them $1000 back in actual government services. So yes that would seem right to you. So why do you have a problem with this? This is exactly inline with the type of robbery you like in your government.

They also just fired a huge bunch of people, which seems relevant to your narrative. :coffee:

And C) they have a temporarily increased tax return as a cynical theft of tax dollars tied to a permanent decrease in corporate taxes for companies that are making record profits and are part of the greatest economic inequalities this country has ever seen.

But please tell me more about how cutting taxes as part of deficit spending/borrowing that we will have to pay back will show us the legendarily hidden power of trickle down economics. I’m all ears. Also talk about the CBO assessment. Also talk about the last time that tax policy was this rushed or ill-thought out.

More details:

So they make $2,000,000,000 from the change that is borrowing money and in turn “give back” about $700,000,000. In quotes because wages in the economy is an interesting thing and while you can claim to tie it in here, that doesn’t necessarily follow. Still, to be generous, it’s a ~30% rate of reclamation. If you want to take out a $100,000 loan and give me that money I’ll be happy to give you an even better $35,000 of it. Cuz maybe you don’t understand money and think thats smart.

And before we get back into “better than the gubbermint spending that money!” let me remind you that the government is still spending that money, it just doesn’t know where it’s going to come from. Which means you and I somewhere down the line plus interest.

Did you skip econ 101?

The problem with the ‘shithole’ comment isn’t that it’s rude or inaccurate. The problem is that what he was saying is that he wants the program meant for diversity visas to keep poor brown people out and let affluent white people (Norway) in.

We already have other visa programs that make it comparatively easy for people from affluent countries to come here.

Sounds like something a SNOWFLAKE would say. Trump is gonna drain the swamp and give power back to the people!! Everyone gets a 1000 dollars and DEMOCRAPS freak out!

LONG LIVE GOD EMPEROR

Edit: Also Norway blowing up the USA

Most retail companies go through a slump in sales in January. Surprise, after Christmas people aren’t as willing to spend their money as freely. As a result they cut hours and/or man power. Now with the tax cuts they are able to at least give their employees raises and bonuses but that to you is apparently a bad thing since a company did it. But you scoff at the $1000 dollars. I’m sure most families would disagree with getting a 1k bonus right after the holidays so they can recoup some of the money they spent during Christmas.

I take it that Chrysler Fiat who also gave all of their employees raises due to the tax cuts and have moved their manufacturing plant from Mexico to Michigan is also a bad thing? BTW they’re also giving their employees a 2k bonus and are creating 2500 jobs. How evil is this, employing more people and giving them raises.

Toyota and Mazda also announced that due to the tax cuts they’re creating 4,000 more jobs and investing 1.6 billion dollars in Alabama.

Visa employees are also seeing a higher matched rate on their employees 401k due to the tax cuts.

Aquesta bank is also giving their employees a 1k bonus and increasing the min wage for their workers.

Over 40 companies have mentioned that they’re either giving raises, paying out bonuses or are giving their employees some added or increase perk that they weren’t doing before due to the tax cuts. Maybe some of them have slightly suspect timing. But for those still employed how is any of this a bad thing?

If we want to talk about econ 101, maybe we should get back to talking about the government spending more money than it currently takes in and should cut back on spending. While I am still waiting on the official white house numbers to form an opinion. I’m hoping for the best and if it gets worse I’ll call him out on it.

But just to recap 2017, 2 million jobs created, unemployment at its lowest in 17 years (4.1%), black unemployment also at its lowest in recent history. 138,000 manufacturing jobs were gained this year compared to a loss of 34,000 jobs last year.

Still a shithole country.

Walmart shut down hundreds of their stores to be able to increase their wages. Plus those wages are for new people starting out. This doesn’t apply to people that have been working from before the wage increase. The Walmart I used to work at actually had a lot of people quit when they last did this a few years ago. New people were starting out 10 dollars an hour while people that had been there for years were still making 7-8 an hour. Walmart also has a habit of giving workers less hours if their wages are on the higher end. I knew a guy that had been there enough years and earned enough raises to finally be making 10 an hour, but when that happened they only gave him 16 or less hours a week so that he was only earning the same as the minimum wage people working 40+ hours a week. Walmart is fucking clown shoes.

That is what happens when a company’s founder bases his management system on the North Korean military.

You ain’t incorrect.

Also. If you somehow ended up working overtime during a shift at Walmart, they sent your ass home and deducted the overtime hours from your next shift so that they didn’t have to pay you extra. Worked 12 hours on monday? Just meant you only worked 4 hours on Tuesday. Didn’t matter if they needed your ass there to do a job or not. Those 16 pallets of product can set in the cooler as long as they don’t gotta pay you for overtime.

Fortunately, that is now illegal to do.

That’s good to know. How long has that been the case?

That seems dishonest, as I said no such thing. I refuse to be distracted by the breadcrumb and looked at the larger picture. People are getting more money: yay! The rest of the equation: Jesus Cisco this is fucked up.

Within context, people that have been at Walmart 20 years getting a $1000 bonus is indeed pretty sucky. The bonus scales downwards, as I’m sure you’re aware. Employees getting a little more money from a company making huge profits and now about to make even more money: … yay?

If you look waaaaaaay off to your left over them thar mountains with your binoculars you might be able to see the actual discussion.

Again, if you want to take out a $100,000 loan to pay me so I can give you $35,000 - or better yet just $1,000 - lemme know cuz I’m in on this. If you’re not that dumb, you might want to look more into the Walmart situation - the NYT article is not rocket science.

I don’t recall commenting upon that or saying that was a bad thing, but I do note that you love to pretend I am taking positions that I am not.

That’s horseshit. I’m presuming you’re not that dumb. Might want to look at the timing of their announcements. Sure, they give Trump as much shine as possible because that’s the best way to get him to blow you.

Not joking on that. The Make China Great article aligns with what I’ve heard from people working in international trade. Trump is a fickle narcissist, and making him think he’s the king of the world is the best way to get him to steal from the treasury to help you out.

What’s the rate on return? Is this better or worse than the “you borrow $100,000 for me and I give you back $35,000” plan I mentioned? It is tight that companies are going to give back a fraction of the new money they are getting that is coming from being borrowed.

Because that money comes from somewhere.

… So the solution is to decrease the money it takes in while spending the same amount of money?

oooookay

Yes, all of that happened overnight, and probably a lot of that is tied to the tax plan.

Pay no attention to overall economic trends starting at about … Obama … or what happened before you heard about this from your favorite right-wing propaganda machine, because none of this would have happened were it not for Magic Trump.

It’s sad that the right-wing preys on undereducated people to just swallow their propaganda whole. Fix your news sources: they suck. You shouldn’t be this ignorant on something you have any interest in.
