This too. Guards aren’t trained killers. They’re low wage workers who act as more of a visible deterant than an actual force in reality. They might help stop theft but a mass shooting is well above a school guards paygrade.
A fair number of teachers have to supply their own supplies for the classroom. I just want to know where this money for ammo, weapon certifications, and training is going to come from. I am all for school safety, but it’s imperative that we don’t forget that schools are learning facilities.
I really don’t think people are listening to themselves talk when they start suggesting to arm god damn teachers to make schools safer. Imagine going into an interview.
“Congratulations, you got the accounting job! Also, we’re going to need you to take firearms courses in case Jimmy snaps one day and decides he wants to murder us!”
Arming teachers is the stupidest fucking idea I’ve ever heard. Being armed didn’t even help Chris Kyle from getting killed, what makes anyone think it’s going to be any different for some scared shitless social studies teacher?
Schools don’t need more security or arming of anyone. We just need to have people brave enough to speak up and people to get those troubled kids help. I know each area/state/region is different but isn’t this the reason why there’s been such a huge campaign to stop one source of gun violence? The stop bullying campaign has been going strong. We need now ads that say speak up and talk it out.
Yea there was no need for anyone to be armed at this school, the need was for the FBI and authority figures to take seriously the reports that this dude was gonna shoot up his school. But they sat on their hands and did nothing and now we need to arm gym/science and math teachers with guns?
I dont think you can be old enough to die in war but too young to buy a gun. 18 is fine age to own a gun, proper training and schooling on guns goes farther, raising the age limit to 26 is stupid unless you are willing to push Military age to 26 as well.
Whose paying all of those off duty police officers?
The main problem is 1 and 3. Y’all have no idea how much money it costs to have an off duty police officer to guard your store/establishment.
That shit makes stores take losses.
Stores would rather regularly get robbed, rather than having to pay an off duty cop to stop robberies. They take less of a loss from people stealing shit on a regular semi regular basis than they do from having to pay for an off duty cop. Let that sink in.
Reducing gun violence by handing out more guns is some Metal Gear Solid V-level shit.
Spoiler
In MGSV, the character Skull Face’s solution to eliminating the threat of nukes was to give all countries access to nukes.
By arming teachers, you’re bringing guns right in the classroom, when the whole point is to keep them out. What if a teacher is under extreme stress and decides to take out their frustrations on the students?
