hmm. So diversitymachfrei is trying to make it a bigger thing than it is? still, I wonder if the main part of her story is true, that being that sheās leaving because of immigrant/refugee problem. If some of the parts Iāve heard are true, such as people being forced from their homes and those homes in turn being given to the new arrivals, then Iād say sheās lucky to even have a choice.

School students are planning walkouts and marches on Congress and local offices to protest gun laws. It has taken a while but this might be the straw the breaks the conservative back on this issue.
need to dig up the gun control thread we had here in GD. It was actually really good and an SRKer made a good post talking about some of the issues surrounding some of the bans.
either way, not really sure why the AR is used in a lot of things, probably because the name is popular. You can change the stock of the rifle from plastic to wood and people will find it to be less scary; same caliber weapon, same magazine size, one is somehow seen as more dangerous than the other.
If we go by the incredible effectiveness of the womenās march, the DACA protests, and the BLM demonstrations, I wouldnāt expect much. Nobody ever wants this, that, or the other around until they need it, then they wonder where it went. Thus far, Iāve only seen one country where they donāt have guns and it is working. That is Japan. I only recently found out why that may be. The Japanese culture itself is the answer. Iām thinking if we teach respect and honor here in America on a level like it is in Japan, guns wonāt be needed. Of course, we still blame videogames for real life violence while glorifying āDat Thug Lifeā on far too many different forms of media so again, donāt get your hopes up.

We really need to focus on getting that health care for everyone and that includes mental health. So many signs were there and they did nothing with this guy.

Well trump did all those cutbacks to mental health, medicare, and social services last year. Along with renegging that bill that made it so those with mental health issues were barred from having guns

Itās less about racism and more about the fact that in many situations, the shooter isnāt actually the one buying their guns directly; rendering the background check uselessn regardless of its scope. Theyāre either stolen, taken from family members, or acquired through straw purchases. Sometimes its a combination of legal and straw purchases, and sometimes people.just never have any criminal or mental record.
Its why I hate the term assault weapon, its a oxymoron and it shifts blame off the issue and muddle the issue.
And Pertho is right, change the stock, hand grips and a few minor details and a AR looks like a old fashion hunting rifle.
Also I am often floored how stubborn people are when it comes to explaining what Semi-auto really means.
Semi-auto donāt mean automatic, or 3 round burst. It means the gun ejects the spent casting, re-cocks the firing mechanism, loads and chambers the next round automatically instead of manually operating the bolt of a rifle to do the same process. Semi Automatics does not mean rapid fire.
Yes this makes it physically easier for a shooter to take the next shot but at the same time once loaded the only parts of the gun that can move is the trigger, hammer and firing pin.
Depending on the model of the rifle, it takes a considerable amount of strength to operate a manual rifle bolt.
In many ways semi-automatics are safer:
itās easier to maintain muzzle control
Most Semi-automatics has a safety setting, while set on safe the gun can not fire, even when loaded.
Most Gun deaths are not from mass shooting but accidental due to negligence or lack of proper training.

Unfortunately, the masses do not care about semantics. All they hear are rapid gunshots, that kill lots of people.
Strictly speaking thatās not correct, as most gun deaths are suicides. But youāre still right that more people are killed by accidents than massacres.
The masses are fucking sheep following the dribble presented by the media who only sensationalize everything.
They hear Semi-auto, gets fixated on the word auto and think Rambo.
Which such strong reactions, people who donāt buy into the panic/hype gets a knee jerk reaction and desperately hang on to their own guns.
And nothing happens as everyone gets polarized instead of thinking the issue logically.
The two things the US needs for Gun legislation
- Uniform gun laws across all 50 states
- Enforcing the actual laws on the books
