Iâm not trying to make you look like someone you arenât, Iâm looking at your words and noticing that you seem to think that being referred to by the wrong gender, if someone is trans, is a âmild inconvenience,â which I would argue is not actually the case, and there are plenty of trans writers and activists that would say that being referred to by their preferred gender was incalcuably helpful to their mental health and well being. Iâd gladly link those to you if youâd like.
I did not mean to imply that you havenât had a tough life or suffered, just saying that the life of a trans person is often one riddled with poor mental health and a large part of that is because of the struggle to achieve validity. Every little bit helps on that front.

Reinforcing someones delusions about themselves is actually more damaging then helpful and there is scores more documentation about this then there is on how supporting their delusions helps them. Of course Trans writers and activists support this, their biased for it, thats not a good source. What do actual psychologists say? I dont know a single psychologist who says you should feed someones delusion. We wherenât told to tell my Great Grandmother that she was correct, there was a woman living in her toaster because she was delusional and thought the reflection in her toaster was a person (This is a true fucking story.)
You are correct, these people are suffering from bad mental health. Supporting that delusion isnât helping their mental state, itâs re-affirming a falsehood and sending them even farther down the rabbit hole. We should be helping these people, not re-affirming a delusion through compelled speech at my place of work, ESPECIALLY at an institution thats supposed to be about teaching realities.
I mean supporting this delusion leads people to self-mutilation. How the fuck is that even remotely healthy?

I for one love and support this. I donât want power. I try to make that clear. I will step up and try to keep the community from cannibalizing itself if needed, but itâs not a joy in my life.

I have no meaningful ability to make people smarter. Your concern - âeverybody else but me is an idiot!â - is a recurrent concern that I have no answers whatsoever for. I really do urge you to think through that. How is anybody else supposed to solve this problem?
I have no meaningful ability to figure out what is trolling versus what is sincere. This is exactly the same as the last paragraph, but â it just bears covering explicitly. Check each other and hope.
Iâve tried to stop people from being complete dickwads to each other. Evidently that is political suppression, as being a dick is a protected political point of view these days. Youâre worried about people being dumb/trolls whatever, which I have no ability to solve - Iâve tried doing the one thing I can do which is to try to get people who drive away other people to tone it down.
Oh well. Dicks gonna dick.

I just want to have thoughtful point/counter point discussions on political topics, interspersed with news and occasional funny shit.
Personal attacks and meme spamming are a waste of my limited time, and frankly are also boring. I am entirely unsure why anyone on either side of the spectrum wants to die on those hills.

Interesting article. I was thinking about it as I was reading, and I think a lot of the anti-Chinese stuff coming from the administration is basically just sour grapes that theyâre as good if not better at doing the same shitty things we do. We arm and prop up despotic dictators like Maduro all the time, sell weapons to the wrong people, cheat other countries, get involved in situations we shouldnât, etc. We benefit from these types of policies, but members of the American government getting upset about this is more than just a bit ironic.

Fox is no more than a cheering section for the GOP. We all knew this, but Hannity appearing onstage with Trump (which Roger Ailes would never have allowed) basically just confirmed it.

Trump isnât necessarily wrong when he says the media is the enemy of the people, but he isnât right for the reasons he states. Legacy media is getting it wrong all the time, and alternative media isnât necessarily doing a better job. When everything is talking heads and op-eds, being properly informed is difficult. And the nature of the internet and lack of fact checking means that you can find material that supports any notion real or false.

Muslim women got elected in Michigan and Minnesota, a bisexual atheist got elected in AZ (ARIZONA!), and a gay man got elected governor of Colorado. The media doesnât mention these things unless theyâre trying to push a narrative. Most people donât have problems with immigrants, gays, or non-whites, I really think itâs just an overrepresented minority that seems to get a lot of the airtime.

Hey look at this guy.
Itâs interesting how not toxic this thread is when people who can talk to each other without being toxic are posting in it. Itâs cool to hear from other people with different backgrounds who have different takes and thoughts on some of the most interesting things that have happened in our lifetimes.
Unfortunately, some people we all like are unable to touch these subjects without losing their mind. Usually I like to have strong generic policy reasons for taking any given action. I donât have one here. This is just a needlessly incendiary topic for some people.
At this point, Iâm extending the long-standing SRK âtroubled topicâ bans on abortion and religion to temporarily cover politics too. Presumably until Trump leaves office and the madness dials down some or at least until the fiery rage isnât a normal thing. Notice this thread had been going on for a long damned time without problems and is actually mostly fine again. Oh well.
Everybody here is great, and Iâd prefer not to avoidably get peopleâs panties in a bunch. Love yâall. Go kick each otherâs ass over important things like fighting games.
