How is it a common misconception?
I mean how is it possible that such a flagrantly bad mistake is commonplace?
Welfare.Queens.
Dirt poor people who can maybe barely afford housing, if doubling-up doubling-up.
Yet they are… Queens.
The idea behind it was that these were women with a lot of kids who weren’t working that were living high on the hog because they were getting so much from the welfare system. That’s why it pissed people off.
That is absurd.

Um, I dunno, people in the 80s who didn’t have the internet to help them debunk every questionable piece of marketing that came their way? This was something marketed by Republicans to white people, most of whom probably didn’t know any black people. Don’t be like the guy who’s positively shocked that someone who grew up in the early 20th century US could be racist, things haven’t always been as they are now.

Yes the people who eat up the propaganda that promotes division and hate are dicks but now more than ever I find it more beneficial to try and use facts and want to show its ok to admit they are wrong without fear of embarrassment.
The Welfare Queen concept and the Caravan concepts of now are the literal exact same thing. To create fear and hate against a select group.
If we just belittle the people who believe those lies they have ZERO chance to realize the facts its just a propaganda tool used to fool them to vote and endorse a certain way.
Civility feels dead but its on OUR side to not let it die.
That is the the other side which looks disgusting and wrong but we must make them realize there is a better option that is accepting to ALL. One that doesn’t view attempted assassination and mass murder as “momentum killing”…

Agreed. Being smug because it makes you feel good only encourages the other side to do the exact same thing, and that only drives people further apart.
It’s like those people on Twitter who quote shitty tweets so they can dunk on them and make themselves look cool to all their friends, but they’re just giving the author of said shitty tweet a bigger audience and more ammunition by extending its range.

I think it’s ironic that you say we shouldn’t tolerate fascism or fascist posts but you want to remove the ability of people with beliefs you don’t agree with to be able to say what they think. You know who else did that don’t you? And you say that it’s THEIR arrogance that they think they’re better than others, but don’t you think the exact same thing? That you’re better than these people you disagree with because they’re “awful, shitty, stupid,” people?
A large part of the reason we’re as divided as we are isn’t because of the media, or the political parties, or the SJWs or the white supremacists. It’s us. It’s the folks who get on social media and shit on other people who disagree with us because it feels good in the moment and makes us feel smart. The only reason SJWs and neo Nazis are able to flourish is because people who oppose them aren’t grown up enough to ignore their wacko rants and just HAVE to get in on the “debate” as if having a social media account was a good enough reason to spout a usually equally as uninformed opinion. Social media is cancer when used for political discourse.
But where has not “appealing to decency circa September 1939” gotten you? How many minds have you changed vs people who have just told you to fuck off and walked away? Right.

I guess you can take comfort in being the one for whom there will be nobody left to speak out for.
Inciting violence isn’t protected speech, particularly when it is slanderous. So while it might feel like there’s some internal logic to calling the silencing of fascists fascism, you aren’t actually harming anyone’s rights when you silence violence inducing rhetoric.
And ignoring it just risks getting innocent people killed or otherwise persecuted. Hence all the recent buzz over the term ‘stochastic terrorism’.
