The problem with the asylum process is that you have to be physically in the US to claim it, but are not yet a legal immigrant. The process should be overhauled so that someone wishing to claim it can do it from their home country.
I can’t say for certainty, but I’m pretty sure the people being locked up are being entering illegally and that’s a crime. On what planet do you let someone guilty of the crime of entering a country illegally just go about their day? Granted, ICE has been a bit overzealous lately, but it’s the folk that are breaking the law that are causing the immigrants who are following the process to get caught in the dragnet. I don’t have any problem with immigrants, but they need to do it the right way rather than sneaking over the border.
"Anyone and everyone was a figure of speech, no need to be smarmy about it.
That said, asylum is for refugees. Most of these folks are not refugees, they just come from countries that have little in the way of opportunity or are run by cartels. We should be spending money trying to get these countries back from being failed states rather than letting their populations into ours.
The Trump Administration, through ICE, has been separating the families of asylum seekers and putting the children in cages while the parents face brutal interrogations. These are people waiting in the long lines at the US-Mexico border, asking for asylum, which is totally legal, then getting fucked with, all as a means of intimidation. Trump is following what Bannon wanted, which is closed borders and no immigrants.
Also if we want to help these immigrants’ home countries, we need to stop destroying those countries with international sabotage, which we won’t stop anytime soon.
Not hating, you pose awesome deep questions in even just that little bit above.
The situations you cite in this latest post seem to be exactly the kind of situation that would lead to probably valid asylum claims. And asylum claims are problematic as fuck, which is why Obama handled it horribly for a while, and the Trump administration doubled down on it. Completely agreed on the interconnectedness of success.
I don’t recall the #s on grants of asylum and have to run, but … it’s a fascinating fucking issue, and the Trump notion of calling everybody “illegal immigrants” is a great linguistic tactic to ignore the fact that some notable percent of these people have rightful claims to asylum. Fucking them as we have been doing before their claims can be heard is evil.
One of my friends is a retired Las Vegas police officer, and he was telling me that they used to work hand-in-hand with ICE, and that there was a major problem with immigrants coming from the Mexican border with children that weren’t theirs because Obama basically said that if anyone showed up with a child they wouldn’t get messed with. So there was this epidemic of child trafficking going on and they were having to sort out what was going on, who was traveling with their own children, who was traveling with children that weren’t their own and all sorts of other things. You didn’t hear that did you?
I agree that the US has done a lot to fuck up a lot of those countries that these folks are coming from, but allowing huge populations of those folks into our own country isn’t the answer to the problem. We really need to stop the bullshit and help to fix these countries and build them up.
I think part of the issue is that it’s hard to determine what makes someone a refugee or not. There seem to be a lot of different definitions of the term, as well as what contributes to someone being a refugee and until those questions are answered, the process is just going to be difficult.
Now address “You can keep your doctor, red line in Syria, Iran wasn’t given ransom money, Benghazi was caused by an inflammatory video”.
Shrug
Tomato tomahto. Brent seemed unhappy about Trump supporters not calling him out on his bullshit, I just helped him out by providing an explanation for the phenomenon. No need to play gotcha with me if you’re not gonna provide an explanation of your own.
After today, there were still people chanting “Lock her up” at Trump’s rally today. Can they at least show some respect for one day? There could have been disastrous results today. People could have died.
Obviously, Trump blame the media and the Democrats again. This is getting old. He projects practically every day now.
I had heard that from Kirstjen Nielsen as well, but according to numbers we have from DHS, that “epidemic” is less than one percent of immigration cases. It could happen, of course, but does it happen often enough that we have to go through this dog and pony show of kids as young as 5 going through a court case representing themselves?
The problem with the current Conservative (because they are mostly all stanning Trump on this one)
talking point is that it would submit that the wealthy elite care too much about immigrants and not enough about the people at home, which is not supported by any real evidence, nor is it doing anything to help solve the actual problems. There are crises with displaced refugees from violence in Central America and a lot of problems with the border situation, but instead of doing that, it’s easier to be cruel, which is the new game. Look at how they talk about this migrant caravan, like it’s rapists and murderers coming to wage war on the US. It sucks.
60 of 60 votes, here, here, I don’t know your context but here.
Politics is easy, vote me for Precedent!
On the first part, maaaaan anybody seriously wants to give Obama a hard time for getting ACA passed on a wing and a prayer? It could be better, yes. Compromises will suck in some fashion, yes. Did it pass? Yes. Was it monumental historic legislation? Yes. Did Republicans try then and now to fuck it to death? Yes. Seems like you could get better legislation if both parties were trying to help the country, but that’s just me being idealistic.
Obama and whomever you want are terrible people who can do nothing right because they have not been perfect. That same standard applied to other people…
edit: It should be obvious, but I am pretty pragmatic. I’m pretty willing to accept that political creations will have warts as I’ve seen how the sausage is made and the fact that anything gets done is a miracle.
Here is how it all ended. The right (Faux/and everything else) blamed it on ranges of fake-democrats. Not a single right wing media outlet took it serious. Seriously NOT A SINGLE ONE… This should TRULY alert ANY non-brainwashed idiot and Nazi.
Trump was the wild card that he would take this time to actually be a leader of ALL and not just one minority… He of course failed and nothing changed as “lock her up” and “CNN” hate was even louder than ever and Trump wanted to still put some blame on media who hates his lies and misleads.
Today was the reality on how bad this country really is now but also made clear which side is the problem.
It again is sad that the former right gets it…
Joe… you and I both knew it would not happen…
Seriously just threw up in my mouth agreeing with this moron…
I can’t imagine that would be the case. At no point during the Trump Presidency have I thought: this person is a reasonable person and I will be able to go a week without thinking that they are a truly horrible person. Don’t get suckered. Remember the Christine Blasey Ford stuff? Shameful.
People around here might be fans of Trump for whatever reason - it’s the most amusing choice, at the least - but they’re probably still good people since they like fighting games. And hopefully vote, regardless of political affiliation.
I hate Trump for being a liar/con-man/low IQ moron and know he will never do the obvious right choice but I want to be FAIR and give him the shot. This is the ONLY thing that separates us from them.
I truly never cared if people liked Joe Walsh/Bush 43 or McCain because it was the right they had to support and vote for them. If you want to buy into trickle down fakeanomics that was on you but to get yourself to not only eat it up but to buy the lie as a fake reality for yourself being helped is insane all of a sudden. To ignore the 100 lies a day our elected leader spews takes a special kind of person.
If the Dems fail to take the House its going to be a straight KO to our country.
The country is going to move on regardless of what happens. We might fuck up further possibilities and have fewer opportunities for people and for the nation, but we’ll soldier on.
I’d actually be curious what kind of madness would ensue if the Republicans won everything November. There’s been a lot of talk that various bullshit was being held until after the elections. Plus hey there’s still the Mueller report that may or may not ever come out to spice things up.
furthermore, it’s not like no one has tried to correct trump. for example, obama stopped saying,“if you like your plan. you can keep it” once he got pilloried by the press who made it clear the ACA wasn’t working as advertised. eventually, he admitted he was wrong and apologized for it.
OTOH, trump tells a lie. his staff tries to correct him. trump repeats the same lie again. the press tries to correct him. trump gets angry and displays his ho ass tendencies and cries,“fake news!”. trump tells the same lie again at a rally and the facebook educated crowd says, “yes, dear leader” and trump claims,'i knew i was right".
but, but, but trump supporters take morons seriously.
i do too. i like how the first instinct in this thread is to leap to a hot take like mashing out a dp. if you say," universal health care". the hot take reply is “socialist”.
i never gave this idiot a shot. which is why i’ve been shitting on him from day one. it was apparent to me that he’s a bullshit artist. we’ve all met the type. trump is no different except he’s incompetent at being one. if anyone is buying his transparent bs. you deserved to get clowned.
however, he did surprise in one respect. i knew he would be incapable of the job, but i didn’t know the degree. i thought maybe a bottom 15 or 10 president not a bottom 5 president. i mean, the country hasn’t seen this level of incompetency in the oval office since harding. i guess it had to happen sometime.
He is the President and to not give him a shot is dumb. Do I hope in 2 years this awful reality show is over? Obviously… Will I feel a lot better when he has some kind of check in government? Yes it will make this not as bad.
Do I hope as a country we take these 1,000 steps back to eventually in 2020 go 5,000 forward with the win of the Presidency/Senate when the GOP have everyone up for re-election and the Dems did just enough stonewalling with house control? That is the Dream…
But again its not even been 24 hours and …
Mr.President I could not agree more that Fox needs to stop its inaccurate fear/hate mongering and constant false reporting. They really do need to clean it up fast or someone really is going to get hurt.
