She technically didn’t lie about it, but the degree to which she actually genetically belongs to said group is small enough that it’s barely worth mentioning. If it wasn’t something her parents told her, it’s likely it’s something she dug up at some point to bring in to her interview at Harvard because she likely knew being a white woman wouldn’t he enough to get her the gig.
But that said, even the tribe she is genetically linked to disavowed her, so that should say something. She may have the genes but perhaps it’s more than just genetics that makes someone part of an ethnic group.
I went on a road trip last summer around the country interviewing people about the direction of the country and its discourse, and one of the people we interviewed was a medicine man who was a member of the Dakota tribe and was at the pipeline protests. One of the things that struck me about the interview besides the fascinating things he was saying in general was that he called himself and his people Indians, not native Americans.
The story mentions that her parents eloped because of the heritage of her grandparents. The story isn’t even really about her, it’s about her family history. So take whatever percentage you want to give her, double that value for her parents, then double it again for her grandparents. And then fall asleep in your chair because this is stupid.

She isn’t really indian by the definition the federal government assigns to some of the looser tribes.
She definitely isn’t indian in any discernable way that matters to actual tribes.
As a matter of fact, her fucking grand standing has made a mockery of a very real issue facing some tribes: Blood Quantum being the sole legal defition of a tribes member. Why would that be an issue? Because if you’re in the same situation as Tigua’s here in El Paso, the only way you can keep functioning as a tribe is if cousins start fucking each other.
You see, being part of a Tribe is a lot more complicated than whether your Great x6 or your Great x 10 Father was part of a tribe at some point. It involves the person knowing the language, costumes, following the religion etc. They would actually have to be participating in the overall culture of the tribe they claim they belonged too.
So given that the tribe doesn’t acknowledge it, her blood quantum is laughable and she doesn’t fucking speaking and/or participate in anything cultural involve a SINGLE FUCKING TRIBE, I would appreciate it if you gang of knuckle draggers would get the fuck out of a topic none of you are qualified to discuss.

I had to take classes on native tribes as part of my degree, one of my professors worked for the Hopis to help them establish parts of their archelogical history involving land (on top of a myriad of other NA tribal issues of all scales involving identity) and another professor was actively working in helping a tribe in getting recognized status.
