You mean like the Alanis Morissette version of ironic?
Grew up a huge fan of the incredibly interesting court system, remain so. That remains one of the most fucked up aspects of McConnell’s time. If anybody wants to raise the “unfair” flag, think you can rightly point to that and a lot of other things.
You’re suggesting that they could have delayed this and handled this in private? Sounds fair to me. You’re suggesting that the background check sucked? Sounds fair to me. You’re suggesting her life was destroyed? According to her this happened … 36 years ago, and I’d suggest that’s the point at which her life was fucked up. This is her sticking up for what is right by choice as somebody interested in the country. You’re suggesting that his life is destroyed because the Republicans rushed a confirmation process, to the point where Democrats bitched every single goddamned day about their own lack of information and documentation? Sounds like you’re bitching about the Republicans to me.
That was not politics as usual and cannot be construed as such. There’s no precedent. Also enjoy Rs changing the rules for nominating justices. Clarence Thomas himself was confirmed under the old rules. I think you want 60 votes precisely to avoid this kind of situation: Kavanaugh was and is a bad nomination. There are 24 other names on that list.
This bit used to be true to a significant extent (the rest of your post is, as always, ranting rubbish and not worth addressing). There used to be very clear daylight between establishment conservatives and Trump supporters.
All this talk and assumptions make me wonder. No long can an individual be moderate legt or right. So many assume if you don’t like the left you assumed alt right. It’s one extreme or the other. Don’t people believe in the moderate or centrist anymore?
Centrist died with Trump and maybe to an extent it was with Obama not because he promoted black or white and no grey like Trump but because the the same people who support Trump now were watching/reading and getting endless new cycles smearing every last thing Obama did to make people hate “Obama” “liberals” and “Dems”.
Truthfully Its hard to not think every Trump supporter is so far right at this point when in this very thread in 2 years not one Trump supporter has had even 1 issue with the 1,000 shitty things he has done so far. This is everywhere now with personal friends, family, social media as well. This leads to to the other side going farther from the center out of frustration.
Like I don’t want to blame one side only for this polarization but we have a fucking President who only cares about his voters and party and to think otherwise is living in fucking denial of the situation.
If you read through his tweets (his primary means of communication with the retarded fucks who support him), all you see is him blaming the Dems for everything.
I have. It ranges from being completely close minded to someone who at least has read policy. I literally had someone do the 5 yr old “nu uh” and look up when trying to have a civil discussion. When talking to the people that are more informed, they are losing confidence mainly. While they think he may be creating “strides” in the economic space he is making divisions in the process.
seems an agreement was reached on the new trade deal
The USMCA “includes ambitious new market access provisions for our farmers and ranchers,” according to the officials. It also includes provisions to make sure the deal does not get “stale and outdated”
Provisions address digital trade, establish groundbreaking intellectual property provisions, and combat currency manipulation.
Officials pointed to a review provision as giving the U.S. a significant form of leverage to get people to meet the mark and keep obligations. They emphasized the U.S. is committed to “strong and effective enforcement of this agreement.” They said this reinforces that this is not just words on paper.
I am moderate for a whole lot of stuff. Gun control. The nra used to be about promoting gun safety. There are gun rights dems.
I believe in working for welfare.
I also believe in public healthcare.
Hell i was A Bush apologist. Trump is just a giant shit show that has scared the gop into acting like him and supporting racist and homophobic rhetoric
When the base is derranged white racists, it is scary how many play on that
Not all dems are libtards
Not all reps are alt right
I just don’t know how sane people can kiss trump’s ass
His new nafta really made more concessions to both mexico and canada than the us. It is funny
There’s gonna be a lot of stuff in the legacy media about how Trump got a few minor meaningless concessions and declared victory.
Wittingly or unwittingly, these commentaries miss the point.
The biggest value in the new trade deal is that it allows Canada, Mexico and the US to form a united front against China. Trump’s end game is nothing short of a renegotiation of the trade that China does with the world. Stuff like forcing companies to allow Chinese companies to steal American technology in exchange for access to Chinese markets needs to stop.
But this is something that China will not drop easily because Xi is heavily invested in his attempt to pivot China into becoming a high tech manufacturing economy.
The only time to force China to agree to follow the rules that every other civilised trading nation in the world follows is now - while China’s heavy reliance on exports still gives the US something to negotiate with. The only way to exert that leverage credibly is to eliminate Chinese methods of circumventing tariffs - which might’ve included selling stuff to the US by repackaging it first in Mexico and Canada.
The new trade deal isn’t about Mexico or Canada. It’s about China.
I kind of want to click that to see if it’s as awful as I think it is, but at the same time I don’t think I want that level of disgust in my life. Blech.
as re vid: OK, so if you’re left-leaning you’re evil? That seems to allow a lot of room for reasonable discussion. O_o
I can only presume that truendymion is watching that video ironically.
That’s a fine idea, but the article gives the clause in the agreement way more credited than it sounds like it deserves.
First of all it’s not a real veto- it just let’s the other two have the option of voiding the NAFTA replacement agreement for the third. Like, if Canada or Mexico got a WAY better deal from China, they can still freely walk away from this one.
Second, the clause only triggers on free trade agreements. Anybody can wiggle around that by negotiating agreements that aren’t technically free.
I mean, I like the idea, but I don’t think this sounds like it has any real substance.
