Not sure if you just looked at the headline or read the actual statements there. Sounds like little has changed in the last year regarding what was going to be done. Wall still being built, just not going to be one giant wall covering 2000 miles (this was already made clear long ago, as mountainous regions and other places would have no realistic use for a wall - the land itself does enough). As for the “Mexico will pay for it”, I never bought into that being literal for a second. Illegal immigrants send huge chunks of cash over the border, back to their (real) homes. By “paying for it”, I always interpreted it as they’ll pay by means of lost wealth, not from writing a check.
