American Government Thread 2: RIP John McCain, 81

This really was SMART by the right/Trump/GOP/Brett… It shows the fear he has the reverse smear campaign will not work.

Being dead serious here too, they can distort facts to get those on the fence to buy into this is fake concept its a smear campaign because this is one-sided and will lack any healthy opposition. It had to be a female interviewing as well. This is just going to be a glorified campaign commercial.

We REALLY need this interview to be an actual interview.

Re: critical thinking must be applied, tangents must be diffused from the get/it must be kept on track, the important issues MUST be addressed and NOT backed down off of.

If he backs away, either make him jump ship and leave, or crack him and make him talk.

The truth must not be allowed to be cast aside, this time.

Fuck’s sake.

God(s) help humankind if we fail here.

Fox News… please?

I am willing to say please.

Please be an actual news station for once.

There are no facts to distort. Where’s the proof? Also how many sexual predators have there ex-girlfriends go on national tv and defend them? Hrmmm…

Everyone thought the Cosby accusers were lying as well. Perhaps that ex was the one he treated right? I’m not saying we should or should not jump to conclusions, but making those claims are huge and it can’t be a complete falsehood. Again Ginsburg stepped down because of marijuana use back during Reagan’s search. We’ve fallen a lot further since then. They could just as easily find a justice with the same line of thinking without sexual assault allegations.

Cosby was an open secret for DECADES. And the volume of accusers was INSANE. No comparison really.

Why not?

There are tons of reasons why assault victims don’t come out immediately. Granted, this should have been uncovered earlier. Also, one is one thing, now there are two. To completely dismiss it is a bit silly.

NO one knows if this is a political hit but generally if a party is innocent they will embrace EVERYTHING easy…

Why would Brett/GOP not want a FBI investigation? Why is this AUTO being rejected? Why is only like 1% of Bretts documents being released? Why the fuck did a SCOTUS just decide to retire in a odd time RIGHT before a BEYOND important midterms…

Seems like ONE side has something to hide and not the other…

It’s pretty easy. They know that there is some pretty staunch competition going into midterms. They don’t want to take that risk. Given that the GOP literally stalled an appointment for the previous POTUS for a similar reason is a spectacular coincidence.

It’s not fair for you to compare the 400+ day delay for Garland with a … week or two delay for Kavanaugh. Making the Republicans wait a week or two to appoint their guy is woefully unfair.

Is that the new standard? Like you can do anything as long as you have one ex girlfriend that will have your back? That’s tight.

I’m really glad I maintain good relationships with my exes now. Imagine if Kavanaugh had had a bad breakup! He’d have go to jail since ex girlfriend rapport is the new standard for innocence.

That guy has shown how shitty he is honestly

I think guys like him are the majority of trumpers

I’m glad the rest of the world knows how backwards this retard is.

Well it’s natural that the rest of the world will tend to see Trump unkindly. His entire shtick is about doing what’s right for America, rather than take it for granted that doing what’s right for the liberal world order is what’s best for America. Furthermore, most of the world understands America through the lens of the legacy media. It’s as impossible to be sympathetic to Trump by only reading the legacy media as it is to be sympathetic to Dems by only reading Fox or Breitbart.

Two addendums though:

  1. 2/3 of the people who are deciding Trump’s political future, his base, doesn’t care if the rest of the world despises him. In fact they take it as a sign that he’s doing something right (since the rest of the world typically prefers that the US undertake something on their behalf at the cost of the US tax payer).

  2. “The rest of the world” really isn’t a monolith. Those of us (and I include myself in this group) who do respect, if not support what Trump is doing, do like (like our fellow compatriots) the benign hegemonic peace that the US provides. The difference is that we think that this hegemonic peace is likely to last longer if the US occasionally looks out for its own interests and bends backward less to China (which most assuredly will not be as benign a hegemon as the US has been).

If by doing what’s right for America you mean doing what’s right for already rich Americans then yea sure. He cares about doing what’s “right.”

Sure. The economy booms, unemployment goes down and wages go up, it’s “Obama’s economy”. Anything that Trump did “only benefited the rich”.

These are great ideological blinders and Dems would definitely win the mid terms if only everyone thought the same way too.

No it’s not and you are a fool for believing that lol

You understand that by using the word “shtick” I am implicitly acknowledging that it’s a gimmick right?

Or is everything in this thread so zero sum that we really have no room for any nuance?

If the shoe fits

Your comment is just reaffirming what odin just said. Perhaps you meant façade? We’d probably more agree on that. Just cuz he claims that looting the treasury is good doesn’t mean that’s true.

most of the world understands America through the lens of the legacy media.

… ? I’m unclear what lens you’re suggesting we evaluate Trump by. I believe there have been a high number of books published so far about his trainwreck of an administration. The turnover and scandal rates are I believe either the record or close to record highs: that’s not really a “lensable” thing. Are we supposed to be “sympathetic” to a crazed old coot with too much power? Have people forgotten about how the government is supposed to work already?

It’s as impossible to be sympathetic to Trump by only reading the legacy media as it is to be sympathetic to Dems by only reading Fox or Breitbart.

You’re comparing attempts at conveying relevant information with propaganda, so that’s a weird comparison.

2/3 of the people who are deciding Trump’s political future, his base, doesn’t care

Think you can stop this sentence right there and be accurate. Like Trump said, he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and not lose voters. That implies an unhealthy and irrational cult. Not much has changed there: the only real question is voter turnout outside the cult.
