The author of the anonymous op-ed is hoping to vindicate the reputation of like-minded senior Trump staffers. See, we only look complicit! Actually, weāre the real heroes of the story.
itās not important, but it is highly unusual. normally, this should have been one of those ceremonial duties the president or ex-president performs that no one gives a second thought. this is like the presidential pardon of the turkey on thanksgiving devolving into reality tv show levels of fuckkery.
in any case, i would have liked to have seen trump attend the funeral and give a eulogy, but not for any noble reasons. iāve never seen a president still alive give his own eulogy and iām pretty sure any eulogy trump would have given would be in honor of trump not mccain.
