American Government Thread 2: RIP John McCain, 81

I see your statement and raise you that Key and Peele video I previously linked to.

That’s just part of the whole fucked up story. There are a huge number of unconscious biases in effect.

Happily most of the social psychology aspects of human interaction don’t typically come into play in the political sphere. Most of the times when they do I agree it’s usually a train wreck.

Those are there due to historical systemic injustice, towards a level playing field.

Because racism is still a thing.

Ask any other honest “White” man, and you’ll hear the same.

Because let me tell ya, when you’re “White”, White folks will drop that veil of equality with the quickness.

It is real.

Sadly.

If Trump legalizes weed will Lil’ Wayne have him in his next video?

You mean if the Legislature legalizes it at a Federal level, and the SCotUS recognizes it as being legit?

That’s a complicated issue that I’ve never attempted to speak to. My friend just put out a movie, The Most Dangerous Year, kind of on the subject. So, no, I’m not going to speak to that and I don’t think it’s a current political issue. Hey look there’s a thing. Supposedly it’s safe. Fuck if I know. Fuck if I’ve heard any political candidate speak to it. Fuck if I’ve heard national policy on it.

You can also take anti-nuclear power which would long run benefit the environment on the chin too.

I’m in the ugly scurred camp on this one given that Hanford is in my home state. But renewables are about as cost-effective at last check, so I don’t know what we’ve lost here versus what we might have avoided here. The nuclear fuck-ups understandably scared people way off.

Both parties are A-OK with technology so long as the NSA can use it to spy on us. So they aren’t that anti-science ultimately.

That doesn’t seem to be true. What happened with climate science once the Trump team took over? Explain the actions of the EPA under Pruitt. In theory some of us may have children and want those children to not die prematurely due to us fucking up the planet. I’d suggest Republicans are gleefully abdicating responsibility here, since as usual it’s much sexier to pretend that there is no problem and then go off and tout the wonders of the new clean coal.

ffs man.

That’s why CNN and MSNBC don’t help anybody.

Instead of doing better, they’ve attempted various degrees of Fox News but for the left.

Well you’re comparing two news stations to an entertainment channel. And I’ll keep pointing out that watching Fox News actually makes you less informed, whereas you don’t have that problem with CNN/MSNBC.

I get that you’re militantly politically agnostic, but … that doesn’t seem like an opinion grounded in reality.

Fucking trump

I mean you would think those guys in congress would fight this since they can’t afford houses in dc

Not really you will be mistreated if you are brown or ethnic

The Republicans will do and allow anything so long as they are allowed to appoint judges to all those seats that McConnell had previously blocked appointments for during the Obama administration. They’re stacking the courts to tilt things rightwards for the next forty odd years. Hence the rush on Kavanaugh. Plus they picked up a huge “win” with Garland.

“both sides”

Being militantly politically agnostic ought not make one militantly factually agnostic.

Facts are pretty fuckin’ sacred, and immutable.

That is to say, you can hate both parties equally, but you’re really obliged at an intellectually fundamental level to acknowledge quantifiable disparities.

The whole of politics has lost its mind.

It is all well and good you hold the Jedi and the Sith to the same standard.

But when one side is guilty of being arrogant, complacent, a trifle stupid, and perhaps a bit too nosey, whilst the other side is guilty of killing every motherfucking thing that might stand in its way, and ruling through fear and said pain of death, the balance of the very universe be damned, well, it’s a long hard row to hoe any equivocations between the two.

Sounds like a call for Thanos

Nah.

Thanos is still Darth Mickey’s apprentice.

This retard can fuck himself.

I can’t tell which side you are talking about. Do you really believe Democrats didn’t start or perpetuate existing wars?

Kosovo is on Clinton.

Outside of that the current nonsense started with the CIA installing Saddam and Reagan arming rebels in the 80s. Then we have the invasion under republicans and the buck being handed over to Obama.

Let’s see, Saddam took over in 79 while Carter was President. But that’s likely a CIA operation that started with Nixon/Ford.

I’ll give it a 3/5 on the blame both party scale. Kind of but a bigger republican mess than democrat. Although the current state of massive PTSD by droning the desert is definitely as bipartisan as american pie.
