Yeah this always pops up every few years and then goes nowhere. All it boils down to is “I don’t like X group’s politics, so lets gerrymand the entire state into two separate states”. It’s all bullshit. Rural California is poor as fuck and absolutely relies on the major cities for income. You know all those huge, devastating wildfires that destroy large parts of California every year? Yeah, the very blue cities subsidize pretty much all firefighting resources to pay for that. If New California became a thing, the entire state would probably just burn to the ground because they couldn’t afford enough firefighters to fight the gigantic wildfires. It’s also funny that they wanted to keep such a rural farm area like SAN DIEGO and ORANGE COUNTY.
