I don’t think they should change the name either but the ships sailed at this point. The teams sponsors are buckling under the pressure. Previously they didn’t, now that ownership is losing money its over. @chadouken indirectly brings up one my biggest issues with the name change situation.
Red Mesa High School. Their mascot is the Redskins. They are a Navajo high school. Even in the South, during segregation. We didn’t have any Black High Schools with the N word as mascot because it’s a slur. So if Redskins is a slur then why does a Navajo high school have it as a mascot. No one has ever given me any good answer to that. “Some people are offended.” Yes but the majority aren’t. If I’m offended by something most black people aren’t should it change just because of me? That isn’t how things work. The same people that have been pushing for the NFL team to change the name have asked Red Mesa High School to do the same and the Navajo basically told them to kick rocks.
Side Note: We can’t call black people in this country “African Americans” because Darc Requiem thinks it stupid. Yes most of my ancestry comes from Africa but the bulk of Caucasians in this country have Anglo Saxon ancestry. They aren’t called Anglo Americans. My mom’s boyfriend is African American. More specifically Nigerian American. He came here form Nigeria and most of his family is still there. The previous “rant” was me being facetious. While I do think the term is dumb, I could careless about it.
Truth be told, they want white imagery on the professional football team in Washington. No one is batting an eye at cowboys, a name that was used in a derogatory way to black slaves who tended to the cattle.
Like, I want to see the money numbers. He could reset the market TWICE in that timespan. He must be getting some extreme numbers in order to keep the contract competitive in that time frame.
But the Browns are named after Paul Brown. Sorry @chadouken , thanks to Gimpy all the lucrative merchandising money you would have collected just went bye bye.
Over 36 hours since he posted this. Not only has not a single player come out against DJax posting this shit, but multiple players in multiple sports (not limited to Jameis Winston and the snek Kevin Durant) have outright come out in support of this.
I’m honestly pissed the fuck off, even as an Eagles fan. Once again a ton of players showing they’re about equality and racial sensitivity…as long as it helps their own brand.
The only way, the ONLY way I’d even be remotely okay with keeping him is if he was suspended for the entirety of next season (whenever that may be), having to go to racial sensitivity classes for said year and donating his entire yearly salary toward charities that support the fight against anti-Semitism. But the above won’t happen so he has no place in the League. I’m hoping the only reason the Eagles didn’t auto cut him was because they’re trying to figure out how to make his entire contract void for the post so they won’t owe him a cent.
But seeing multiple guys come out in support of him, and not a single player come out against him? So far only one former player said shit and it was a Jewish player who outright expected there to be no blowback because that’s how this shit works.
So again, being anti-racist is okay…as long as it don’t affect your brand.
People keep parroting this. Two things. One, noted racist Chip Kelly was still coaching the team sadly. Two, even WITH Chip Kelly they were gonna roast his ass to the fire but Michael Vick went out of his way to save Cooper’s ass, likely feeling that due to receiving his own second chance that he should be more sensitive to others receiving them even if they didn’t deserve it (as plenty say Vick didn’t deserve his own second chance). When your Head Coach and face of the franchise at the time both go out of their way to protect Cooper there was no way he was gonna go, regardless of the unrest in the locker room. Even so, if that had happened now Riley Cooper would’ve never made it past 24 hours without being cut and kicked out of the league as he didn’t have the “talent absolves all” as he wasn’t very good.
Now unfortunately, you may be right about this as it seems as this goes longer that the Eagles are gonna find ways to keep him because they’re just that desperate for WR help. It’s especially offputting when the Owner and GM are both Jewish and they will keep someone who outwardly is anti-Semetic. So far the only thing they’ve done is forced him to apologize to those two, and speaking to the Rabbi of Chabad Young Philly to “educate him”. And this shit will ultimately get swept under the rub because it’s “not the time to talk about anti-Semitism”.
Like shit, people at least called out LeBron for all of two seconds when they realized he was a fucking hypocrite with his comments on the Free HK situation. DJax didn’t even get that. And that’s what kills me with this whole situation. The deafening silence. No players speaking out, very few media members speaking out, no sports talk radio or debate shows talking about it. The fact that no one seems to care, outside of ironically enough, fucking Reddit of all places.
Forgive my ignorance but what exactly is the issue with DJax’s post? From what I read, it looks like he was pointing out that black people were/are treated poorly by those of the Jewish faith. Is it because the quote came from Hitler or is there some type of hidden message here that I’m failing to understand?
You mean ignoring the entire passage where it mentions that Jewish people, white Jewish people specifically, will extort America and have a plan for world domination?
The fact that the passage ends with saying “Hitler was right”. The fact that Hitler would kill his ass just as quickly as anyone of the Jewish faith?
If someone quoted a passage as to saying that Black Men would extort the country and attempt to rule the world it’d be eviscerated.
