American Football 2019 Thread:

PI is stupid hard to enforce.

So far its not terrible. They need to build name recognition or it will fail.

As dumb as it sounds they need a Manziel or something like that to boost ratings. Right now it feels like watching a 3rd-4th quarter pre-season game because its just bodies and not ā€œplayersā€. They know this though and I am sure and going to look to make it a priority. Cardale Jones/Landry Jones can only take you so far.

Also with only 8 teams its to easy for one to just dominate.

Manziel? Dude sucks. He canā€™t play. Heā€™s failed in every pro league heā€™s played. If you are going to go for a name, youā€™d need one that can actually play. Otherwise itā€™s counter productive.

Except the XFL is a BRAND NEW league (kinda) with the chips stacked against it and it needs to within a timely manner get and keep peoples attention.

You want Manziel or say Marcus Mariota?. Mariota is the better player easy but media wonā€™t fucking care. Its about the press it would bring.

The XFL gameplan is simple I am sureā€¦
A) Show you want to provide quality product
B) Get some name recognition
C) Hope those both work so players who would be low end starters in the NFL will join you for a chance to be the star and can be a legit league.

Iā€™m a fan of some of the rules in XFL and they are just doing things better than the NFL like hearing the refs talk during the review. That is something so simple and seems so obvious once they did it. I hope the NFL steals that from them. How many times the refs fuck up a call even after review and we are sitting there just wondering ā€œWHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY THINKING?ā€ Well if we could hear them talking, at least we would know WHY they made the wrong call after review.

The fact they can review illegal hits and all that stuff in the XFL ā€¦ they are light years ahead of the NFL.

And being able to SEE what they are looking at AND hear them?

The NFL would be so stupid to not steal this stuff.

The one knock for early demise is salaries. Essentially these dudes being paid some mid grade real life pay like up to 5k per game with the exception of QBā€™s who can get up to 500k for the season which is just Johnson, Jones/Jonesā€¦

This is one thing that might just turn this into college football plus vs NFL lite. It would help kids 18-21 who would rather make cash vs play in college have that option and it would allow local but not good enough for the NFl college ā€œheroā€ kids have a local team to play for if they canā€™t go pro.

But this route seems like more likely outcome is it wonā€™t last forever and would get boring.

The NFL stole the overhead cam from the original XFL and I am sure are taking notes to what they need to steal based on peoples reactions. This really is hitting point 1 of trying to show you want to provide quality product.

Even if people still gave a damn about Manziel, they donā€™t. He canā€™t play. People will tune, see that he sucks, and tune out. Heā€™s bombed out of three leagues at this point. There isnā€™t any thread left on that tire. If you are going to go for a name. Youā€™d need one that could draw eyes to your league and keep them there. Theyā€™d be better off going after a big name college QB that canā€™t come out for the NFL draft. If nothing else the controversy that would stir up would draw attention.

I do think itā€™s cool though that the winning team gets $100k. No clue how they divide that up or anything, but still a cool thing to know you are actually playing for money.

Itā€™s divided among the active players IIRC. So only the people that played get a cut. That will definitely give the backups an incentive to work hard to get playing time. Side note: Houstonā€™s QB is not messing around. Best QB play Iā€™ve seen today.

I heard a rumor Vince set enough money to the side to atleast give XFL 3 seasons, any truth to that?

he literally has millions from saudi arabia. he absolutely does, if he chooses to.

Yeah itā€™s not a rumor. Vince sold a bunch of WWE stock, setup a separate sports company, and IIRC the company has 300 million war chest.

Thats fuckin dope, NFL needs competition so they dont get complacent. Will definitelu be tuning in

I was a little off. It was 270 million dollars.

Iā€™m cool with 2.5 seasons, enough time to build a fan base. Not expecting it to beat NFL, but its nice to have an alternative, competition breeds excellence

Iā€™m not sure if it will succeed. But Vince clearly learned from last time. He focused on building a legit league and not just a gimmick league. The league openly acknowledges the NFL is the big leagues. The player contracts allow guys an out if they get an NFL deal. It has real TV deals, unlike the AAF, on network TV. People without cable can see some games. Although Iā€™m not a fan of everything being micā€™d up. There is transparency with officiating. More so than with the NFL. Hearing the review process live was ingenious.

On a related note, this is a great opportunity for 2K games to start back making football titles again. XFL is perfect for a game
