I’d consider one playoff appearance in 10 years a drought, and also pretty shitty for fans.
Guess what? We up it to 8, most of those teams in a drought still end up in a drought. The Bucs would be the only beneficiaries.
Those fans want to feel better? Pick teams that don’t have horrifically run organizations. It’s not like the NBA where if you’re not a Big Market team you’re completely fucked no matter what you do and how you do it. Or the MLB where it’s absolutely impossible to really compete with any of the clubs with the fattest wallets outside of a 1-3 year span if you’re able to innovate in which afterwards said clubs will just use the ideas themselves backed up with bigger paychecks. A switch from worst to first in the NFL is easily doable with a good organization and patience.

I think 8 teams will happen eventually(maybe even 18 games which I am not a fan of). In the end only 1 team base/team itself is truly happy at the end of the season. I just think only 12/32 teams isn’t enough, you think its cool when 10-11 win teams miss the playoffs? Id rather some 8-8 team get in more often by being a 8th seed than ever see 10-11 win teams miss.
I like the NBA where 16/30 get in but that also puts some bad 8 seeds in at times with losing records so that is not even perfect but 16/32 feels good right at 50% and just kill the pro bowl already as well or put it 2 weeks after the SB so you get to see who truly got in not like some 7th in line QB.
I despise the NBA Playoff System. The Regular Season feels incredibly pointless. So much so that they’ve been discussing trying to find a way to do an In-Season Tournament just to make it less of a drag to get through. Most good teams can sleepwalk into the playoffs and the Regular Season only matters for the 7-8 seeds and the last two in, which rarely matters since they’re destined to get stomped immediately anyway.
If any League needs to lose playoff teams it’s the NBA.

The NFL playoff structure is PERFECT in my opinion as far as total # of teams in it. The MLB playoffs has also done it perfect with the wild card play in game. NHL is fine with the amount of teams just because NHL is so random. I mean last year, every top seed lost in the first round.
The NBA however is so stupid. The playoffs are way too long, especially in the later rounds when they have games every 3 days. The first round is pointless and I miss the days when it was 5 games so it would at least go quicker. But back then, you didn’t know who was going to be in the conference finals before the season even started like you do now a days, other than maybe The Bulls with Jordan.
I think the NBA playoffs should be 3/5 first round with the top seeds getting a bye. But the owners like ticket and beer sales so that’ll never happen
Any kind of bye would mean they need to remove the number of teams from the playoffs and that ain’t happening.
