American/European/Canadian 3rd strike

Deemo, what’s the name of the new arcade in London? And the one in Bristol?

Heart of Gaming in London

There is no arcade in Bristol (apart from one with a World Warrior cab) so we take over the top level of a retro bar/bowling lanes by the name of ‘The Lanes’ once a week on a Tuesday

that setup is mega. is that a guantlet cab at the end??

For the last few months I’ve been taking a bus to the small city of Hamilton just outside Toronto. To my knowledge they are the only place around me that has 3s Ranbats.

Just today at a game meet up center downtown I played 3s with a couple guys from Toronto. One plays on XBL and the other used to play at Funland Arcade years ago. There are still some dudes who could throw down I’m sure, such as C-Royd, but I’m not connected with them and don’t see them at these spots. Pretty minimal here sadly.

That London arcade looks really sweet. I’m a sucker for a row of candy cabs with 3s in them.

I haven’t been yet as it’s only just opened, but am planning to take the trip down next month

So about that passport I’ve been meaning to get… I need an excuse to travel abroad. Haven’t been outside to US since I was 14 and I’m getting pretty antsy.

nevermind

The scene in Paris (France) is still surprisingly decent. This makes me very happy because I still remember the days when we were playing 3s 13 years ago on laggy Dreamcasts…

There are weekly gatherings at Arcade Street, usually on Friday nights: there are usually around 15-20 players for 3s. It is an amazing arcade with a great location and quality equipment (two Japanese versus city cabs at 0.5€ per game). 3s is easily one of the most popular games there, along with SSF4 and KOF13. The owner is a player too so he lets us run events pretty much whenever we want (we usually hold ranking battles or tozaisen-style team battles). We are extremely lucky to have a place like this.

There is also another smaller arcade located inside a game shop called Versus Dojo. Games are very cheap there (0.25€ per game for 3s) but they only have one versus city cab and close very early (around 7:30pm) so the 3s crowd tends to go to Arcade Street more often. Still a very nice place though, and the owners are both serious 3s players.

If you’re ever in Paris and enjoy 3s, you should really check out both places. Send me a PM too and I will bring other players if you want.

From what I understand, there are some arcades with 3s in other French cities (Toulouse, Lyon) but 3s isn’t as popular there as it is in Paris.

Not many large tournaments have 3s in their line-up anymore and I personally feel laggy screens are always an issue. The biggest console 3s tournament of the year is probably Stunfest, which took place this weekend in Rennes. It was 3on3 and I was told between 20 and 25 teams entered which is pretty good even compared to the attendance newer games get.

The scene is a mix of veterans (10+ years) and new players (1-2 years). The newer players learn insanely fast because the conditions are really good. Many players make the effort of showing up each week just to meet up and have fun, which in turn makes other people show up because they know they won’t be stuck playing the CPU. I think most people realize that everyone needs to be involved to keep the game alive, support these arcades and promote the game because otherwise there could be nothing left very very soon.

That is one sexy ass arcade. The top pic. Bottom one is nice too, but that top one…hott.

Kinda reminds me of the arcade at cal poly.

Why can’t we have these nice things in the US? We invest our resources in private interests when investments like arcades die off due to lack of interest or “we have internet. I no longer need to see my friends to have fun while playing 3S.”

BK both those places look awesome, I need to visit!

No fair. Me Jelly.

awesome billykane.
keep the dream alive.

We have at least 3 3rd Strike cabs here in NC. I still play at my local arcade at least twice a week to keep the feel, hardly anyone there to play though.

we have local meetups on fridays, but everything is on console…at least I get to play the OG’s there sometimes…

You’re in NC? I recently graduated from UNC Charlotte. Lookin’ for OG’s, RESE is where they’re at.

man they don’t even play 3s at rese anymore, and I wouldn’t be interested in playing any of those guys outside of Tom and Face anyway…

LUN, Fugo, other Italians, tell a bit about the Italian scene, I want to know. I visit sort of regularly.

I have connected with a few more Toronto players from the Funland Arcade era. Now we are like 6 players strong with a few more possible. That’s pretty awesome since I’ve been at this trying to gather players thing for 6 months to a year.

in due time,i am sure lun or fugo will tell you all about it

in any case,to celebrate the rigor mortis of the “belpaese” scene,
a special one-off event is taking place before mid-august in a yet to be disclosed & exotic location near milan

or so i’ve heard

@fran3s

Come to Japan.
